You return from deployment and surprise them
I watched Band of Brothers so now we have this chapter and a big probability of more war/soldier-related scenarios coming up.
Tommy:
He was exiting the bar, having just finished up a task he was given. He yawned, stretching, deciding he should go home and get some sleep. He debated if he should stop by a store and get something easy to eat, but that thought left his mind quickly when he saw someone in military uniform approaching him. It took him a second and then his eyes widen, gasping your name.
You watched Tommy walk to you in a hurry, trying to keep his excitement under control as you are both in public but his big grin said enough. Once close enough he pulled you into a hug, gasping your name once again then welcoming you back. You held him back, taking in his familiar scent you have been missing so much. Once the hug was over he ushered you to the car, telling you to tell him how it was, but the look in your eyes and the way your smile fell made him quickly change it to asking if you are hungry and that he was gonna get some food. The drive he felt awkward as he didn't know what to ask or say, and you were still the same yet also not. The look in your eyes was different, it has seen things that he couldn't imagine. But once you had the food you been craving since you left he laughed as you basically just shoved it down, assuring you nobody is gonna steal it so you can eat relaxed. He was itching to ask if you will go back to fight for this new war but he kept it inside as he didn't want to ruin this nice reunion with asking such heavy questions, like he almost had in the car. He will first do all the things he had on his mental bucket list of things he wants to do with you then start worrying about the bad and serious stuff.
Paulie:
He came home, exhausted and aching. Every time he goes through such chaos with Sam and Tommy he just tells himself you have it harder so he can't complain. His nose crunched up and down few times, sniffing the air. It smelled great. Rushing to the stove he saw a warm meal being prepared. His first thought was to wonder if someone got the wrong apartment, somehow it wasn't immediately think it's danger. His head snapped around at the creak of wood from the bathroom, and then a person he didn't think he would be seeing yet, or maybe even ever again, walked out.
You looked at him with an innocent, confused look as you dried your hair off with a towel. But then a chuckle came from you, telling him you thought he would be returning later so would have more time to prepare everything. You couldn't even preoperly finish because he ran and slammed against you causing you to take a few steps back. He held you tightly, breathing in your scent, grasping at your damp shirt; everything doing to be certain you are truly here and he's not imagining this from exhaustion and stress. Once certain he held you tightly and didn't move. He's not sure why but tears just began sliding down. You didn't judge or speak, just held him back and rubbed his back. Eventually you did have to break it, announcing the food's gonna burn. He mumbled he doesn't care but you gently moved him off and went to go check on the food. Soon both were seated at the table, a proper warm meal between you two, and even though he didn't have one in a long time he didn't care for it. He just stared at you, asking you questions, completely forgetting the food before him.
Sam:
He was having a smoke as he returned from the store, just having gotten some things to throw together a sandwich, not really eating warm meals now as he doesn't want to do all that energy for just himself and he wants to enjoy the next warm meal with his lover. It sucks, he should be able to come home to your warm embrace, not the cold loneliness of en empty place.
Suddenly an arm looped around his and all froze for him, wondering what the fuck this person is doing. As the words left his mouth and he took steps away, tugging his arm away; he was quick to freeze in movement and tone. All you could do was chuckle at his reaction, asking if he missed you. But he put a hand to your cheek, just staring at you; as if not believing it then mumbled curses. He gripped your cheek then got a big smile, slapping it softly, saying your ass made it through causing you to laugh and say you did. He slid his hand from your cheek to the back of your head, pulling you forward then wrapping his other arm around you as well. He held you tight with a breath he didn't realize he had been holding finally blowing out; so much weight suddenly lifting off his chest. He always feels so annoyed and stressed, but now he forgot about all of that and felt so relieved and happy, such a weird feeling he hasn't felt in what feels like ages.
His first question when he pulled away was if you shot many causing you to chuckle and ask not even if you are okay, to which he shrugged and said he's not gonna act as if he's not curious how it all went. And so you two went home, where you told him the parts you felt most comfortable sharing with him while he made sandwiches for you two. He was happy but slowly he realized you might wanna go back as news of a new war breaking out has arrived so once the stories and sandwiches were over he slowly asked your thoughts of the news of a new war breaking out; eyeing you with eyes clearly asking "will you go back?". You decided to just reply with a shrug and say let's just focus on enjoying each other's company before worrying about such things.
Vito:
He never liked that you stayed. And you never liked that he left. You knew he got hurt, but it wasn't that serious to be send back home so when you got to rumors he got someone from outside to make up fake papers claiming his wounds are more serious he got many letters from you being furious. It was a difficult time between you two at that as you stayed and he was gone; both full of stress, exhaustion, fear, and uncertainty. Soon the war was over, everyone was returning. Many stayed as that's all they knew now, some too afraid to get back into society. He has experienced trying to get back into society with the trauma, survivor guilt, and experiences he's been through, it's almost as tough as surviving the war. And it's even more crushing that nobody around him understands his struggles. They all think he's being silly whenever he flinches, make jokes of the war to him because they didn't experience it like him, and always the judgemental looks.
So when you returned he was happy because you are back but also because now there is someone who does understand him. Though opening the door to get flowers thrusted in his face was not how he expected your return to happen. You said a simple "I'm back", as if you just returned from a walk. He slowly took the flowers, unsure why you are gifting a man flowers, but then he gave you a tight hug. He mumbled you are crazy, which you laughed off and reminded him that includes him then because both served. He chuckled he never said it didn't. Once inside you told him the basic stuff of what happened.
The conversation he didn't want brought up came up: you asking him why he left, and without even a goodbye at that. You had to get a letter saying he was back in America, relaxed on his bed, while you were still out there getting shot at. He apologized for that but argued everyone would have gone back home if they gotten the chance.
Joe:
He tried to get you back home sooner, like he did with Vito, but you denied. You wanted to do this till the end of the war. So once VE Day was announced he was so excited as it meant you would finally return. Though he still didn't know when so he kept cleaning the house and making sure all is good almost every day.
And he was glad he did because one day he returned home to see you on his new couch, slouched and relaxed. Your eyes met and your first words were a joking "like the new couch". He swallowed, trying to wet his dry throat and get his voice back, then chuckled he knew you would so that's why he bought it. You did motion for him to approach, mumbling you can't get your body up now that it can finally relax. You didn't have to motion twice because he already rushed over and leaned over you, giving you a passionate and heated kiss, or a make out session would better describe it. Once it was over you both stared at eahc other with dazed eyes, happy goofy smiles on your face as you are both finally in each other's arms again. Swallowing again he questioned if you want anything, but you shook your head, saying you just want to enjoy his company. He held his arms out, assuring you enjoy him all you want.
He loved having you back, but it was like with Vito: you are the same but also not. There were small things that changed about you, nothing big or that would be obvious to many, but it was still different about you and each time he saw you do that different thing he would get a little sad. Especially your eyes, they changed the most. He would feel guilt that you had to go fight while he stayed comfortable at home and drank himself drunk on many occasions. Or that he ate such fancy meals while you ate something that made you wonder if you can even call this weird thing food.
Henry:
He kind of prepared himself by watching Vito closely to try and see what he should expect from a soldier who returned home. Though Vito caught on as it was weird for a man to keep staring at another man so intensely and with such sheer focus, for a second wondering if Henry wants him but then shaking it off as he already has someone then worrying if Henry is gonna kill him.
Eventually, when they were alone, waiting on Joe and having a smoke, Vito asked if he done something wrong because the staring is getting quite awkward. Henry glanced, debating if he should say it, then explained his reasoning, and all Vito could feel was such relief Henry isn't interested in him or planning to kill him. So Vito began discussing it with him, trying to give tips on how Henry could help you get used to the new world because everything will feel so new to you when you return and have to try and be a civilian again, with very few around who will understand what you seen or why you are acting so "weird" now and different.
But the two went silent in a second when a voice called that he could have just asked you that. Henry twirled quicker than Vito did. He threw his cigarette away, calling your name with a growing smile. He hurried to you but then just stood before you, unsure how to greet you now that you are before him. You asked with a chuckle if he wants to give a handshake, but thena huff came out of you as he suddenly pulled you against him and held you tightly. You really were here, in his arms. He couldn't wipe the silly smile off his face, or so he thought. It went away quite quick when Joe made a sarcastic comment, asking if Vito and him should wait outside, giving a suggestive eyebrow raise, but Henry just told him to shut up. He still had a job to do, which he hated because he wanted to stay with you, but you told him you will go unpack so you will see him later.
During the mission he had to endure Vito and Joe teasing him the whole time, making fun of how he's working faster then usual now and has such a goofy excited look in his eyes.
