5: EX-HUSBAND NEXT DOOR

SYBIL'S POV

Dream Aura,
08: 34 am

A month passed to the night I went back to my apartment after witnessing the murder, I got a fever. My condition was extremely bad for the next two weeks. I used to get panicked attacks and I used to wake up screaming, soaked in my sweat but Lia never left my side. She supported me in everything. Even used to answer my phone calls when my parents used to call me and I wasn't in the condition to do so.

She took me to the coaching classes. I joined and now everything is going great.

If Lia wouldn't here I'd have run back to my parents and would never have come to this city again in my life.

But luckily she handled everything well.

I'm still not over what I witnessed but I'm trying to move on because the way Lia has explained to me about Kings there's nothing I can do for that boy's justice.

I've to focus on my career. So during the night time, I practice new dance moves so I can improve and teach my little students. They are the cutest creatures on earth.

I realised I overwatered the plant while thinking. I immediately stopped watering it and put the water jar aside.

I turned my head to see a couple of light trucks enter our colony. I stood up with the help of balcony grills not moving my eyes from those pickup trucks.

Its door opened along with my mouth as they started to pull out items of luggage. " Someone's shifting," I exclaimed and ran inside to tell Lia who was sitting on my bed with her laptop on her lap. The mattress boused when I jumped in front of her with a big smile but she only hmmmed in response.

My eyes were searching for any reaction on her face but there were none. My smile slowly dropped when I realized that it was not something to get thrilled about. It's not like we interact with neighbors here. It's not my village where people gather and spend time with each other.

" Could you please make a cup of coffee for me?" Lia asked pulling me out of my thoughts.

I looked at her to see her grabbing her head and moving it up while closing her eyes tightly. " My head feels like it'll burst." She groaned lowly.

I took her laptop and closed that. She opened her eyes to see my angry expression. " You are always on your laptop." I lectured her. " I'll make coffee and we both gonna sit on our balcony. Without your laptop." I added using my unusually strict tone.

" Alright, Mom." She nodded trying to smile brightly but her eyes said how tired she was.

She needs hangover soup, to be honest.

She was out for the entire night and came in the morning smelling like alcohol.

It was my first time spending the entire night alone.

I'm terrified of loneliness the reason I turn on the music and practice dance moves for hours last night.

A shadow of a man gave me some strength. It made me feel that wasn't alone.

Shrugging everything I went to the kitchen and made two mugs of coffee. I grabbed a painkiller with a glass of water for her as well. She was now on the balcony. Her eyes were fixed on a tall person standing in a white shirt.

I looked down to see him facing us. I couldn't conclude if he was looking at me or the balcony under me.

" I'm leaving, will be back by evening." I turned to see Lia hurriedly grabbing her laptop and getting back inside.

" Lia?" I followed her to her room but she seemed in a hurry.

" I need to be somewhere. I almost forgot about it." She grabbed her jacket and came towards me while wearing her heels.

She grasped my wrist and drank a sip of coffee. " I'm so sorry." She gave me a quick peck on my cheek and held my face. " I'll definitely treat you tonight, alright?" She said raising her eyebrows.

I nodded sadly.

" Am I forgiven?" She asked for confirmation with a tilted head.

" How can I not with this behavior?" I slapped her arm playfully.

She bid her loud goodbye before leaving the apartment.

I sighed drinking my coffee while her's got wasted. Soon I got ready for the classes.

My students are incredibly smart. They learn the dance moves pretty quickly. It's fun to be with them. It doesn't feel like a job. In fact, spending time with them is the best time I have otherwise I miss my parents.

Lia does support me with everything and never makes me feel lonely yet she has her life. A job and lots of guys to make out with.

Not my wannabe with the last statement.

Spending the entire day with kids I went back to my dark apartment and turned on the lights. I put my bag and the keys on a table and opened all the curtains before taking a seat on my couch.

I hissed as my toes were hurting. It has many buries, they sometimes bleed like today.

I took a bandage that I brought from a medical on my way and wrapped that around my cuts.

My feet look so ugly with all those scars but I love my passion. I'm never giving up on it.

I rested my head on my knees. The silence around me sends chills. I hate dark and silent places.

I turn on the television whenever I'm home alone and leave it on with some random channel so it feels like someone's around.

I lazily lifted my head and pushed my messy hair back, looking around to find the remote only for it to see it getting dig in the corner of the couch. I reached out to it but before I could turn the television on I jumped at my place.

I've never flinched that hard before. The reason was ear-bursting music from a neighbor. I palmed my chest feeling my heart thumping underneath my chest.

I thought it was accidental but the music, more like DJ continued to play so I went towards the door and opened it.

I heard many more voices. I was too lazy yet curious so I chased the voice.  The entire floor was empty and the music coming up from downstairs was echoing on that floor.

My curiosity made me decent one more staircase. Now I was peeking from behind the staircase of the eighth floor to see the new neighbour partying in his apartment.

The door in front of his door opened furiously and a pretty woman walked out.

I recognised her. She was the same nurse I often see but we have never exchanged any words till now.

Her name's Zoe. How I wish to be her friend and hang out.

She looked super mad and done but as soon as she settled her eyes on that giant guy her expression changed.

" YOU?" I saw how her jaw clenched. " You can't shift here." She threatened.

" I already have." He replied smiling ear to ear. To be honest I didn't expect a giant man like him to smile that way.

" Turn off the music." She spoke with pressed teeth.

" It won't stop. It's going to be like this for the rest of the night." He took a sip from his drink resting his shoulder on his doorframe.

" I'll complaint-"

" Leave the complaint letter here." He pointed his finger to the notice box beside his door. " I'll make sure to work on them." He added.

No ways. That only means-

" You own this complex?" Her and mine eyes widened.

" My bro does." He smirked pointing his index finger at her while holding a whiskey glass with the same hand. " Smart, the reason I marry you." He added.

They are married?!?

" Stalker, The reason I divorced you."

Stalker?

Wait... they are divorced?!?

But why?

They look cute together.

"To your knowledge, divorce is a law process that needs two signatures. I haven't signed it yet." He explained not losing his cool while she was fuming.

But wait! Wait wait wait wait wait...

What are they?

What to call this relationship?

I've heard about a half-girlfriend, Now what is this? Half wife? Half husband?

I swear this city is something.

Suddenly my ankle twisted while trying to hear them as the song changed into more loud one.

I screamed so hard thinking I'd end up breaking my leg but luckily I got the staircase for support.

I saved myself but I was able to feel their eyes on me. I turned to look at them and then stood up properly. They eyed me as I tried to play it cool and walked past them downstairs.

I know I looked stupid but at least it stopped their fight for a few seconds if I see the bright side.

I forgot my sell upstairs and now I had nothing to pass my time. I went to the huge garden area around my building that I hadn't explored yet. It was so refreshing and quiet there so I decided to walk around a bit.

There were beautiful flowers to see. I bent to one of the roses there and smelled its fragrance.

" ...you know the rest." I heard a deep voice of a man. I peeked from a tree to see a man in all black standing there holding his mobile against his ear.

I was only able to see his side profile he had a sharp jawline. His veiny hand had a watch on his wrist which was holding his handset while his other hand had a cigarette between his fingers.

Is it possible that he's the same stranger from that night?

" Sybil?" I heard my name being called from the backside. I turned to see Lia. " I've been calling you for the last ten minutes." She gave me a death glare.

The amount of gossip I had in me would have burst if she wasn't there.

I grabbed her wrist and dragged her with me away from that stranger. " You promised you'd treat me tonight," I said linking my arm with hers.

" That's why I was calling you?" She rolled her eyes.

While walking side by side with her, I rested my head on her shoulder for a second and squeezed her arm with both of mine gaining her smile in response.

There was a restaurant outside our complex which I had no idea about. She took me there and ordered food for both of us which arrived pretty quickly." Do you know the guy in room number 13 is the ex-husband of the girl who lives in apartment number 14? They were fighting in the passage area." I began. My voice came out weird as my mouth was full of food.

" I know." She nodded. " They fight everywhere they come across."

" Then you must know what happened between them?" I asked.

" She divorced him because he works with Kings." She replied.

" Oh, WAIT... WHA-WHA-WHA-WHAT?!" My eyes widened and the fork fell from my hand.

" Chill, it's not confirmed. Just a tittle-tattle." She grabbed a tissue and wiped the side of my lips.

" Still, we gonna live in the same building as King's man? It's dangerous." I freaked out.

" You are acting as if there are no spies in every three houses in this town." She mumbled.

" I-"

" Eat now." Lia cut me off.

I suddenly caught Zoe walking in the restaurant. She placed her purse on a table next to us and sat on the chair. She rested her head on the table letting her hair cover her face.

I was secretly watching her. Soon a waiter went near her and tapped his fingers on the table beside her head. " Excuse me, Ma'am? Do you need something?" He bent a bit to see if she was alright.

She lifted her head not even bothering to move her hair from her face. " A glass of water please." She said in a low voice yet I heard her as her table was close to mine.

The waiter nodded and went away. She I guess felt my gaze on her as she glanced in my direction.

I smiled until I realised she was looking at the person behind me.

I turned to see a guy with folded sleeves, he had frowns as if he was trying to recognise her.

" Miss. Zoe?" As soon as he noticed her he walked to her but I heard Zoe groan and then she palmed her forehead. " All good?" He asked narrowing his eyes across her messy hair.

She nodded her head. " Thanks for asking, Doctor Evan." She passed him a small smile. " Please sit. I was about to leave." She added grabbing her purse, seemed like she was trying to avoid him.

" Who was he?" His question made Zoe stop at her place.

I swear to god I never overheard anyone intentionally but this conversation was what I needed.

Okay, I confess I heard the last one as well.

" If he's bothering you, you can tell me." He politely offered his help.

" Don't even think about picking a fight with him if your life is dear to you." She warned before standing up and leaving the restaurant.

Is he that dangerous?

" Sybil? Are you even listening to me?" I turned my head to realise that I was so lost focusing on them that almost forgot the presence of Lia.

" Yup, I was listening." I lied.

" Then tell me what was my last sentence." She folded her hands over her chest and rested her back on the chair behind her. Her left eyebrow lifted and her tongue pocked her inner cheek.

" You said... Sybil, are you even listening to me?" I mocked her voice.

She laughed. " You really know how to cover up." Her anger vanished so fast. " I was saying that I've to attend a meeting this Friday, and I'll have to go out of town for it. I'll come back late and as you know I can't take a holiday from my part-time job so will you take my place for a night-"

" No." I cut her in between.

" Sybil, please it's-"

" I won't change my mind." I wiped my lips and moved back.

" Alright, I'll ask my other friends." She seemed disappointed and was all pouty on the way back home.

I would have agreed within a second because she has done uncountable favors to me but there's no way I'm gonna agree to this one because the job she was talking about is nasty.

She's a freaking stripper. A pole dancer at a bar.

Yes, I also was shocked when I got to know what she does for a living. She works five days a week and earns more than I do in a whole month. She offered me a job there where his owner was in search of a stripper for weekends, he'd double pay but I declined. She knows how much I hate those things yet she wants me to take her place for a night.

Nope... This isn't happening. Never in my wildest dreams.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realise that we already had approached our garden area.

Cars were leaving our compound indicating that the party had finally ended.

When I was about to pass by the tree where I saw that stranger. I don't know why but I stopped and looked around to see if he was still there but only found his cigarette butt on the ground.

My brain kinda memorized his deep voice. He sounded so dominating. I'm sure I can recognise his voice if I hear it again.

" Sybil?" I heard Lia's voice from a distance. I turned my head to see her crossing her arms on her chest and tilting her head to the side.

I took fast steps towards her realising I zoned out once again.

" You act like a baby! Can't you walk normally? You stop in the middle randomly..."

Her lecture began, I knew she was mad that's why she was being like that so I listened to her without any interpretation but my mind had only the thoughts of that mysterious guy.

There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable.
