15: Romeo & Elijah

Nate and Mary were staring at each other, their eyes held guilt and fear. Because they never thought they'd have to deal with the Beast ever again, they thought he was a part of their dark past, where they were saints and sinner both. But they ended up stuck on that one haunting name; Romeo. The name could make people leave towns, cities, countries. The name was enough to terrify every sinner. Because the beast was a sinner who hunted sinners. He was death himself. He could put monsters of different worlds to shame, if he wanted. But they knew Romeo enough to know that he somehow always lowered his head in front of his morals.

But that moment, they wondered if the Romeo they knew was the same Romeo who could probably be a potential kidnapper of Clarissa.

"It is not safe, last time we met him, we knew what his intentions were. He gave us warning. He did not want us to interfere in what he does. It was his mercy for our sins." Nate finished fourth glass of water and then wiped the sweat off his forehead.

"But it is about Clarissa, Nate!" Mary almost yelled.

"I know," Nate sighed, "But you know Romeo."

Mary finished her drink in one go and slammed the glass on the table right in front of her, "So? We should let Clarissa face him? I am not scared because I know Romeo, I am scared because I know the beast. His hatred is above his morals, his hatred is above his love, his hatred is above everything when it comes to his vow."

"You are not saint enough to go to his territory and come out alive or without scratch!" Nate protested.

Some of Mary's past sins were painted in front of her eyes for a few seconds, she felt something bothering her soul. Guilt, she blinked twice to get rid of those images, "But if I was sinner enough for him, he would have shown me no mercy, Nate. I should go and take a chance. If he has Clarissa, then I will have to do something to convince him. If he doesn't have her, at least my mind can be in rest that he doesn't have her."

"What is the possibility that he will not hurt you?" Nate folded his arms across his chest and fumed. Frustration mingled with curiosity was evident on his face.

"Well...he is...he is Romeo!" Mary hesitated and shrugged.

Nate snorted, "He is not Romeo anymore, he is the beast. He is angry. He is wounded. He has a purpose to follow. A vow to respect. Do you think he would act like our old Romeo now. If he wants, he can be worse than Alfred, Alexander and Luciano combined."

Mary nodded, "But the key word is 'if he wants'. So, I can be hopeful right?" Mary stared at her brother, with eyes filled with some hopes and in need of some assurance.

"I don't trust his anger at all." Nate leaned back on the sofa. "But what about Luciano, why is he unable to connect the dots? And what will we tell him?"

"Luciano can never imagine Romeo being the suspect, he thinks Romeo can't touch him and he is way too wrong." Mary huffed.

Nate agreed, he again poured himself some water, he was unable to comprehend the events. Hearing about Romeo again, it was enough to tear his conscious apart. "Because the only reason Romeo could have to capture Clarissa is Luciano and his affections for her."

"But how could Romeo know about Luciano and Clarissa?" Mary wondered.

"I don't know, the only thing that is bothering me right now is the fact that Clarissa is trapped because of Luciano. The name Luciano is enough for Romeo to hate Clarissa and be merciless." Nate shook his head, "Poor girl has already gone through a lot, I wonder what she must be facing there if he has her."

"I am sure he has her! No second doubts. Don't you see the connection between the people of Alfred kidnapped and Romeo. An easy link. Luciano is way too egoistic to notice that, but I noticed it right away." Mary's voice almost broke.

Nate held her hand and pulled her to sit beside him, he put his arm around her and said, "Maybe instead of going to Romeo straight, we should reach out to Jon or Dean? Right?" Mary seemed to have not heard him as she was frowning and was in deep thought.

"I think I know how could he know about Luciano and Clarissa!" she raised her voice, slammed her thigh.

"How?" Nate asked.

"Madilyn Bitch, she told us with fake proofs that she has no connection with any shady place anymore. Bitch always came here, Clarissa showed her kindness, that bitch...she must have seen Luciano and Clarissa together and told Romeo, she always had a thing for Romeo, she was always trying to be in his good books. She fucking put my friend in danger!" Mary got up from sofa and started pacing faster around the room, yelling.

Nate held his temples, he seemed to be way too confused in that mess, he never expected that past figures would appear in his life like this. "If I am being honest, it is basically Karma biting Luciano's ass."

Mary stilled in her spot, she looked down, closed her eyes. "I know," she mumbled.

"But Clarissa doesn't deserve it, we should have kept Clarissa and Luciano apart!" Nate picked up the glass and threw it on the wall. "I don't want anything to do with Luciano's mess again. And if his mess includes Romeo by any chance, and of course it does, then hell no. I want to leave this country with you! But I just want Clarissa back, she is like you in my heart, Mary. My sister. I won't let my another sister get in this ugliness, she will be more damaged than you are! You know why! Romeo doesn't know her mental health and I don't know how he must be treating her, I am so fucking mad!" Nate was on the verge of break down, the memories that haunted Mary were coming at him and eating his soul.

He felt disgusted thinking about the different possible treatments for Clarissa. He feared the consequences of Luciano's past actions being paid by Clarissa. He just hoped Romeo was giving her what he was famous for. Mercy. Not the other famous trait of his; the infamous torture of the beast.

"And if Alfred gets to know that Clarissa is kidnapped by Romeo?"

"First he will finish Luciano! Which will be a blessing to me." Nate snapped.

"Call Jon or Dean, get the confirmation that he has Clarissa!" Mary yelled.

Nate clapped, with a huge fake grin on his face, "Yeah, as if they will tell me the truth. They are way too loyal, they won't utter a word against him. The idea of reaching out to Jon and Dean is equally pathetic. Waste of time!" Nate rolled his eyes.

"Then what do we do? Tell Luciano? Or should I go to Romeo?" Mary asked, her eyes were almost shut and red, she seemed as if she had not slept for days, she seemed tired.

"He won't bear my face, you know," Nate replied, "You...you still have a little chance, I don't want you to go to him but there is no another way. Telling Luciano is off the list. We don't want bloodshed, we just want Clarissa back in one piece, without any physical or mental harm."

"So, I think I should...I have to go to Romeo." Mary sighed, knowing that what she said and what she was going to do could probably put herself into her grave, but she believed the mercy of Romeo that time, she held onto that.

But then she suddenly felt a shrill pain on the left side of her skull, she gulped and held on to the door right beside her for support. Nate frowned and then reached out to her but before he could hold her, she fell down to the floor. Nate almost skipped his heartbeat and yelled, "Mary!" he crouched down at her, and tried splashing water on her face to make her regain consciousness. Deep down he knew what happened to her, it always happened to Mary when she was unable to contain her suffering. He cursed Luciano again and again as he was the reason of Mary's suffering before and now he put Clarissa in danger which again was a misery for his baby sister.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

"What do you remember?" Dean asked the wide-eyed Jon who was frozen on his spot.

"Jon, I won't bear your games now!" Romeo gritted his teeth; his voice woke Jon up from his little shocked slumber.

He looked at Romeo and gulped, "When we were doing some research on Clarissa..." Jon stopped, he closed his eyes, some familiar possibilities trembled him.

"Jon White, I need the complete truth!" Romeo snapped.

Jon nodded and eventually continued, "Her documents used to be forged, in many cases. Probably Nathan or Mariana did some dirty work on it, so It used to be hard to find some basic information of Clarissa." Romeo and Dean exchanged blank looks, "But I dug deeper, I paid money to many people to get some information, her birth place, her school, her college, her residence, her parents information and all. I read her father had a criminal record, but he was not in jail...his name was Elijah. Elijah Martin." Jon looked up to find Dean almost about to faint and Romeo looking away, his jaw clenched.

"What could her father do so bad...Romeo, this shit seems personal and ugly." Jon spoke up, for the first time after years, Romeo heard the real Jon, the one who had love for humanity, the one who hated jokes and took life seriously, he heard the Jon he used to admire. He heard the genuine concern in his tone and he knew why.

"Did you see his picture?" Romeo asked.

"No, I got the name hardly, no sign of pictures, there were some fake data of Clarissa so some fake pictures of parents. Because I found who they really were. But this Elijah Martin, nothing on him. I don't think Nathan and Mariana can erase police records, there must be someone big enough to give him his help." Jon analyzed, he remembered searching about Clarissa and how he was shocked to find everything fake on her data and everything erased about her parents and her real past life.

"What was his criminal record?" Romeo asked.

Jon kept quiet and tried to think, "Mariana and Clarissa's complaint about theft, only this was stated."

"Mary must know the real deal then," Dean finally gathered his composure, "But what really surprises me is the way Clarissa talks about the monster of her past-Elijah. What can a father do to his own daughter to make her this much scared and hurt?!" Dean looked at Romeo in need of some help, he noticed Romeo was massaging his temples and cursing under his breath.

"I don't think Clarissa would like to talk about this Elijah anymore, and Romeo...you won't force her to talk about it, please." Jon put his hand on the shoulder of Romeo and pleaded. Romeo lifted his head up and nodded slightly.

"What about mother?" Romeo questioned.

"Veronica Martin, nothing more except the name." Jon responded.

"Maybe Alfred has his dirty hands on this matter, maybe he erased their existence, and we all know he wants Clarissa." Dean suggested.

"Of course, he does." Romeo immediately responded, his voice laced with disgust and hatred.

Jon sounded confused, "But how can Clarissa's father be involved in Alfred's ugly games? What is their connection and how does this Elijah Martin know you, Romeo?"

"I do not know!" Romeo yelled.

Dean spoke up, "Maybe we should ask Mary."

Romeo sighed, the name of her brought mixed feelings, brought back flashes of old days, "Mariana...I actually expect her on my door, anyway. She is smart enough to consider the possibility of Clarissa being with me. But I doubt she would know about Elijah Martin and Alfred's connection. She was never so much involved in these things, she was one of the victim of...of Luciano," the name of Luciano rolling off Romeo's tongue, it scared Jon and Dean. "that bastard ruined lives!" Romeo turned around, threw the side table to another corner, he ended up sighing heavily. Almost was left out of breath.

"Calm down-"Dean was cut off.

"I have been kind and merciful towards this Clarissa, I cannot deceive my purpose, my vow just because she had a rough past. We all have rough past." The glint of horror in Jon's eyes was evident, Dean even though was habitual of seeing Romeo so out of control, he himself did not agree with what Romeo said and what he intended to do. Romeo looked like a wounded lion who just wanted to devour his prey-Clarissa, without showing any mercy. There was fire of vengeance in his eyes. Because only vengeance and only his past wounds could make Romeo that mad.

"Do not get triggered by Luciano's name like that, you have shown mercy to Clarissa because of your own morals. You get angry on her for some time then you yourself pick her up from the misery you put her in...because Romeo, you are not Luciano. You are not Alfred and you shouldn't be Clarissa's next Elijah. Think with some reasoning." Dean offered a glass of water to Romeo, hoping he would understand what he said and calm down, Jon was way too shocked at the things happening, so he stayed away from both of them and remembered the old days.
