Chapter 46 (II)

Haris raised his head. His face was swallowed badly like he'd been punched multiple times, his left eye bruised and his lower lip cut badly. His eyes widened when they landed on Anissa.

"Ai-Ainnie?" He stammered in disbelief.

"Lai wa! (Bring him in!)" Shehryaar ordered loudly in Sikhali.

Another door opened and two bulky men brought in a beaten and battered Zameer as he was seated in a chair. He looked defeated as he eyed Shehryaar.

"Saeen, aasi nai kiwa. Ussa jaanwi dai. (Boss, you don't have to do this. Let her go)." He tried to reason with Shehryaar but Shehryaar was shooting daggers his way and imnediately stride towards Zameer and pounded his fist hard on Zameer's jaw. He winced and coughed out blood. He was already beaten so badly.

"You don't get a fucking say tonight, peasant!" Shehryaar sneered in low growl. Zameer knew that Shehryaar had set a line then and there is couldn't dare to cross it.

Even at his last moments, his couldn't bring himself to disrespect Shehryaar. He was already remorseful for betraying him but he didn't regret it. He sighed and raised his head.

Anissa paled as Shehryaar made his way towards her and pulled out his gun from the holster tied to his left thigh. She hadn't noticed it before.

She was certain that he was about to shoot her so she closed her eyes and waited.

Death was better.

She would be relieved of all the misery and suffering that life was constantly throwing at her.

And strangely enough, she wasn't afraid to embrace death this time. Rather she welcomed it with open arms.

Shehryaar stood behind her so that his chest was glued to her back. His strong scent wafted in her nostrils when she felt his close proximity. She didn't dare open her eyes as she waited patiently for him to pull the trigger.

However, you don't always get what you want.

Shehryaar pulled her wrist up. Anissa was surprised when he placed the cold handle of the gun on her palm.

She looked up her shoulder and met his smouldering grey eyes.

They shone with an evil intent.

So much malice and viciousness that it caused the marrow in her bones to chill.

And before she could react.

Theee shots were fired from her other side.

And the loud screams coming from Haris jolt her mind into awareness.

Anissa looked and screamed when she saw that Haris was shot. Blood seeping out of his left thigh at the exact location of his femoral artery. The other two shots were fired directly into both his lungs.

His mouth gargled in blood as he coughed.

"Now," Shehryaar turned to her, as he gripped her shoulders. "You have only one shot. Fire it at Zameer and kill him. Failed to do so Anissa and ten next bullet will be between his eyes." Shehryaar stayed coldly, his gun aimed directly at Haris's head.

Anissa felt like her world tilted then and there.

She prayed that the ground would open up and swallow her whole.

Her blood was cold, chills crawled in her skin. Her heart sank in the pit of her stomach.

At her right was her cousin, the man who was her brother in very sense of the word. He had looked after her when her own biological brothers failed.

And to her left was the man who treated her like a little sister and helped her and aided her when no one else did.

And now two more lives were placed under her.

"He's," she choked. Her breathing escalated.

She was on the verge of a mental collapse.

Her sanity was about to break apart but she had to pull herself together for Zameer and Haris'S sakes. They needed her to be strong.

And she was going to be strong for them.

"He's-- he's your brother," she gasped as the gun gripped in her hand shook violently.

"Please he's your brother. He didn't do anything wrong. He only helped me." She panted and clenched at her heart. Now she wished that somehow she would suffer from a sudden myocardial accident and die right there.

But there was no escaping this for Shehryaar was complete composed yet his eyes challenged her.

What was she suppose to do?

Beg? When she knew that it would be pointless.

"Tick tock. The clock is running and I think you and I both know that I am a very impatient man." He stated.

"Do it Bhabi," Zameer said and glared directly at Shehryaar.

"He will only learn this through the hard way. There no point in trying to talk him out of it." He stated calmly.

Anissa gawked at him in disbelief. Had he retired from his senses? How could he give up on his life so easily.

But Zameer had understood. When Shehryaar had confronted him previously, Zameer knew that he misunderstood his intentions behind Anissa's escape.

And where Shahzeb, his twin, had failed to make him understand then who was Zameer?

This was the price was about to pay for his betrayal towards Shehryaar.

Death.

Just like Shahzeb.

That's how obesseive Shehryaar was towards Anissa.

He looked into Anissa's soft teary hazel eyes and gave her a small comforting smile.

"N-no, bhai please don't give up."

"It's okay." He smiled a peaceful smile. "It's okay Bhabi. I won't blame you. You must do this to same your cousin. He's more important." He said, his eyes ushering her to be done away with him.

"You're important too," Anissa murmured.

"Just fucking do it!" Shehryaar shouted irately.

Anissa cried as tears slipped down her cheeks. She knew that saving Haris was more important but Zameer's life wasn't a joke either.

She aimed the gun at Zameer's chest with both hands. Shehryaar saw how violently her hands shook so he grasped bother her cuffed wrists into his one hand while the other remained aimed at Haris.

Anissa looked at him over her shoulder. "Please don't do this. Hes your friend. He's like a brother to you." She tried to reach out to him to make him understand.

Shehryaar narrowed his eyes at her and the click of the safety had her stiffening.

"5,"

Her breath hitched.

Haris?

"4,"

Her heart stopped.

Zameer?

"3,"

Her mind stilled.

Haris?

"2,"

Her soul cracked.

Zameer?

"1."

And the shot fired.

The gun fell from her hand.

Her knees wobbled and she fell down to the ground.

Her stilled mind began to work again. Her eyes registered what had happened around her and a scream erupted from her throat.

She had shot him.

She shot Zameer.

Straight in the heart.

Now he was choking on his own blood.

And she could do nothing but scream.

Scream.

Scream.

She killed him.

She claimed a life of an innocent.

Her hands were tainted.

She was no longer pure.

No longer innocent.

She wanted to die.

She prayed for death.

Gripping the gun in her hands. She placed it on her temple.

She didn't deserve to live now. It was all over.

She pulled the trigger.

Click! Click! Click!

Empty.

She gasped and threw the gun away.

Shehryaar chuckled and kneeled down to her. Raising her chin, he gazed into her anguish filled eyes.

"You really think that I would give you a loaded gun?" He enquired, his cold cruel smile unwavering in his face.

"Now, what shall we do about your parents?"

But her brain had shut down.

And she collapsed, mentally exhausted. Totally succumbing to the darkness.
