40: Family Secret
Sandra was not herself after the shocking discovery. Her mind was barely functioning as she mindlessly went back to her room. She was in shock and didn't know what to do next.
The unexpected photo was now hidden safely in one of her coats.
She was stunned. She couldn't fathom everything about this. Everything suddenly became so complicated that even processing the truth was hard for her. Where would she go from here? She couldn't proceed with any of her plans. This discovery bothered her deeply.
TOP and Kevin were in a sort of a relationship before. There was nothing else to interpret from that photo of them on the bed, topless. This was a huge piece of the puzzle in her head.
TOP being a closeted gay...and her brother? She had no idea. Never in her wildest dreams would she have guessed that Kevin was gay too.
Was this the reason her brother tried to join Mad KingZ Fraternity in the first place? Because of TOP?
Was TOP involved in her brother's decision to kill himself? There was no way TOP wasn't involved, she thought. He had a link to her brother's past and death. And if she hadn't discovered the photo, TOP would have just pretended her brother Kevin never existed in his life. She wanted to cry for her brother, but no tears came. The shock was too much.
"Oh God." Sandra clutched her head with both hands as a sudden headache hit her. She felt like throwing up too.
Sandra stood up, went to her bathroom, and threw up in the sink.
Kevin...Kevin...
That was the only thing running through her mind as she continued throwing up.
Sandra was in this state when Kidrey walked into her room and found her in the bathroom.
Kidrey was quick to aid her, caressing her back up and down.
"Are you OK?" Kidrey asked once she had stopped puking and calmed down.
Sandra raised her hand to stop Kidrey as she brushed her teeth and then washed her hands.
Kidrey handed her a towel, and Sandra wiped her mouth with it.
"Thanks," Sandra mumbled as she leaned her head on Kidrey's shoulder, still feeling nauseated but noting that he smelled good, which soothed her nausea.
"What happened?" Kidrey asked as he helped her sit on the bed.
Sandra sighed as she lay down, closing her eyes. "I just feel bad today, that's all."
Kidrey was quiet as he watched her. He then put his palm on her forehead, feeling her temperature. She felt a bit hot. "Are you pregnant?" he asked bluntly.
Sandra snapped her eyes open and looked at Kidrey, brows furrowed. "What are you talking about?" She was surprised by that out-of-nowhere question.
Kidrey shrugged. "You feel hot, and you were throwing up when I walked in. I can't help but think about that."
Sandra frowned at him. "Well, don't worry. I am not carrying your child, God."
Kidrey grinned. "Even if you are carrying my child, I would take responsibility for them."
Sandra felt goosebumps at what Kidrey was implying. Getting pregnant was the least of her concerns right now. "Why would you think of that?" she asked, frustrated. She was feeling scared about the possibility.
Kidrey caressed her hair gently. "I'll marry you, that's why. I won't have a bastard child. I already know how that feels," he answered seriously.
Sandra sympathized with Kidrey and tried to calm the fast beating of her heart at his plan. But still...
She sighed. "I know my calendar, so I'm fine. Don't worry." Her throat felt dry. "I'm thirsty. Can you get me a glass of water, please?"
Kidrey stood up immediately. "Sure, darling."
Kidrey exited the room while Sandra was left thinking.
Kidrey's worries were far less important than her own right now, to be honest.
Sandra just hoped that at the end of this ordeal with her brother, the truth about his death would not involve Kidrey.
Would she be right?
Sandra sighed as her headache worsened at the thought. She hugged herself and rested on her bed.
She had to do something about TOP. That was more important to think about right now.
Kidrey returned to her room shortly, attentive to her needs as they spent most of the day there. Her mind was in shambles, and her evident distress made Kidrey visibly concerned.
"Is there something bothering you?" he asked, a small crease on his forehead.
Instead of answering, she reached for him and kissed him on the mouth. She hugged and clung to him tightly, seemingly afraid to let him go.
"Kidrey, please make love to me," she begged.
Kidrey wanted to press the issue further, but Sandra kissed him again, wanting to drown in the pleasure only Kidrey could provide and to distract herself from the bigger issue.
Kidrey made love to her throughout the night, kissing her all over her body, worshiping her every nook, and leaving marks in his wake.
Sandra moaned out loud.

"Did you know Kevin was gay?"
Sandra was inside the telephone booth, talking to her sister over the phone.
Mary gasped on the other line. "I-I didn't know." She was surprised as well. "How did you know that, sis?"
Sandra closed her eyes. She skipped school today just to make sure she could call Mary during the nighttime in Bali.
Just as Sandra expected, no one in her family knew about Kevin's true sexuality.
Mary continued, "I mean, Kevin had always been on the soft side, but I thought it was because we babied him a lot before." She sniffed, trying to hold back the tears threatening to fall. She missed her brother more now that they were talking about him again.
Sandra smiled sadly. "I know. I thought the same thing too." She paused, contemplating whether to tell Mary the full truth about Kevin's death. She held back in the end, sighing. "How are you and Mom holding up?" she asked instead.
Mary answered, "We're doing fine, sis. Mom likes keeping busy with her International Store. And I'm studying Balinese right now, too. We're trying to move on from Kevin's death." She sighed. "I wish you could join us here someday."
Sandra smiled a bit at that. "Someday, Mary dear. Someday." She wanted to mean those words but...
"Are you still gonna avenge Kevin's death there?" Mary asked directly, surprising Sandra. She didn't know her sister suspected her of that.
Sandra bit her lip. Was she? Was she still seeking revenge? "I just need to find the truth," she simply said.
Mary fell silent on the other line. "Sis," she called softly. "Please don't endanger yourself while doing it. You can move here, and we can heal together. One day at a time."
Sandra couldn't hold on to those words. "One day at a time" was a vague future for her. She wouldn't have peace of mind about Kevin's death, especially after her recent discovery.
Sandra said more reassuring words to her sister before saying her farewell. "Take good care of yourself and Mom, Mary dear," she said lovingly as she ended the phone call.
Sandra sighed as she dialed and called another number.
---
Sandra spent the next moment calculating her next move. She ultimately decided on this one.
Sandra was waiting in a fancy coffee shop in the downtown part of Madtown City. She'd been waiting for someone for a while now. She was early for the appointed time but didn't mind waiting.
A few minutes later, a woman with a confident stance entered the shop, drawing second looks for her good looks. She went straight to Sandra, who was sitting in one corner.
"Miss Rose," she greeted as she sat opposite her.
Sandra smiled a bit. "Reporter Terry Johnson," she greeted back.
The waitress came to them, and the reporter ordered an espresso right away. Once her order arrived, she smiled widely at Sandra, who had been quiet the whole time.
"I guess you called me here because we are sharing inside scoops now?" Terry Johnson asked while sipping her coffee.
Sandra sipped her cafe mocha as well before looking straight at Reporter Johnson. "Tell me something most people do not know about the Williams in Madtown City. Especially about Officer Williams's family," she asked.
Reporter Johnson raised an eyebrow. "Wow. You're direct, Miss Rose. Straight to business. Not wasting any time, huh?" She was amused. "What will I get in return?"
"A family secret," Sandra answered right away.
Reporter Terry Johnson nodded as she finished her coffee, interested in what Sandra had to say. "I think I'll go first before you share that intriguing secret, eh?" she asked, but Sandra didn't answer. She shrugged her shoulders. "Officer Williams blackmails prominent families in Madtown City. When these families get in trouble, instead of punishing them by the law, Officer Williams pulls them out of trouble, but what these families didn't know is that, they are being held captive by Officer Williams blackmailing tendencies in the future. For his benefit, of course," Reporter Johnson shared.
Sandra listened attentively. If Officer Williams held the prominent families in Madtown City by the neck, then many of these families probably had students attending Madtown University as well. "How far do you think Officer Williams could go to protect his family?"
Reporter Johnson shrugged her shoulders at the easy question. "He's very traditional and a conservative man. I've heard he values his reputation so much that to protect his family name, I would say with his life..." Terry looked straight at her, brows furrowed. "Taking lives might be a possibility, I guess."
Sandra's breathing slowed down upon hearing that. She was surprisingly calm while listening to this reporter. She thought deeply again.
Her brother's death was claimed as a suicide by the authorities and medical professionals. Bullying that resulted in extreme emotional stress was out of the discussion. The truth behind his death was taken lightly even during the court hearing back then. No further investigation was made.
The possibility of murder due to bullying as a form of murderous intent was not investigated anymore...maybe due to someone in a higher rank preventing it. Their excessive cooperation with the case before was already suspicious to her. Kevin died because he chose death over living. That's what they wanted people to believe and nothing more about it.
But not her.
The bullying...which Sandra initially thought was done by Mad KingZ members as heavily implied in Kevin's diary, was actually done by the students in Madtown U. She should've realized it sooner. It was the rich students of the school.
Sandra experienced bullying there, and it was done by students whose parents were also big sponsors of the university. The invincible ones, the ones that could easily brush off the school rules. Some of them were even Mad KingZ fanatics too.
What if these students' parents were under Officer Williams's thumb as well? When these students were bullying Kevin, they might have made it appear as if it was ordered by Mad KingZ itself, as someone asked them to do it. Maybe orchestrated it.
And who would do such a gruesome thing in the first place?
Sandra had a theory about it but needed to confirm it first. Her evidence was scant, and she was leaning on many hypotheses. For now, it was getting confusing for her.
"Officer Williams's only son Timothy Oliver Pete Williams VI, aka TOP of Mad KingZ Fraternity, is gay," Sandra told the reporter, straight to the point.
The reporter's eyes widened. That was news to her. "Wow, really?" She then squinted her eyes. "Why are you telling me this? Aren't you fraternity buddies?"
Sandra ignored her last question. She adjusted her glasses as she answered, "To blow up Officer Williams's corruption on allegedly blackmailing the parents of Madtown U students who cause emotional distress to helpless students who know about TOP's sexuality...or even towards men he had a relationship with. Just maybe." She stated this with a heavy heart, getting angry at the possibility.
Reporter Johnson was serious after she finished speaking. "That's a big accusation, Miss Rose," she said. "What if you're wrong?"
Sandra almost scoffed at her. "So is telling me that Officer Williams blackmails prominent families of Madtown City." She sighed. "I wish I'm wrong, Reporter Johnson. If there's a truth about his blackmailing tendencies, then maybe there's a truth about Officer Williams doing this to protect his reputation for having a homosexual son as well. We both know that with his big ego, he doesn't want this out easily." She then stood up. "See you again, Reporter Johnson. You can either keep this information to yourself or actually do something about it."
Sandra started walking away when she seemingly remembered something. She then looked at the now-quiet reporter, her tone challenging. "Don't be surprised when tragedies like last year's surrounding Madtown U students happen again, Reporter Johnson... and might be disguised as suicide once more. Bullying is an unforgivable act with murderous intent that can sometimes lead to someone's death. I don't want that to happen to anyone again...just to cover a family secret. In your position, I wish I could do more..."
The reporter's eyes widened upon hearing this. "Are you implying that last year's death of one student from Madtown U is related to Officer Williams's doing?"
Sandra shook her head. "I am not sure yet. Why don't you look further at the families being blackmailed by Officer Williams and see if their children attend Madtown U as well? Corruption exists in that prestigious school too. Rich students bullying the less fortunate ones is not unheard of in the school. It happens there too, but some of the faculty members can turn a blind eye to it. It's devastating."
Sandra could tell the reporter was hooked on whatever she was talking about. This was a scoop, whether it fell into the rumor section or not. News about corruption in a prestigious school in a famous city always sold well. And as she guessed, Reporter Terry Johnson was thirsty for some juicy news in this town.
Sandra continued, "If I am right, then your guess is as good as mine. Officer Williams had a connection to that student's death. After all, his only son TOP and that student had something going on between them before. The poor boy was heavily bullied by students there before his untimely death. Maybe because of this." She then dropped a copy of a photo of TOP and Kevin on the table for the reporter to see. Her gift to the reporter for the information.
Sandra then continued walking away to leave the coffee shop, making sure she had piqued the reporter's interest further about Officer Williams's family secret.
