Chapter Fourteen : Gone
« Life Is A Precious Gift »
"Hey Eliot! Welcome back man."
"Glad you're ok Eliot."
"Welcome back."
People greeted me as I walked throughout the institution. I really didn't want to be here but Charlotte had convinced me. I had to be here so I didn't look suspicious or anything.
I headed towards the boss's office so I could tell him I was back and receive yet another new schedule. One without Charlotte in it.
"Eliot, welcome back. I heard you were sick and then you were on the ride at the fair when it all collapsed." The boss greeted.
"Yeah I was both sick and on that ride. I was just here to say that I'm back and to ask for a new schedule since that patient is still missing." I said.
"Oh of course. Let me just print it out and then you can be on your way." He smiled.
"Thank you." I replied.
"No problem. Glad you're back." He said.
A few moments later my schedule was in my hand and I was making my way to my office. I didn't have to see a patient for a few hours and there was only one of them had to see anyways.

I knocked on the door of room seventeen to make sure the patient knew I was here.
"Hello Keaton, my name is Eliot and——-Emith what the hell?!"
I stared at Emith while he stood in the corner of the room.
"Ok listen man, we don't have much time but you need to leave. Leave Charlotte, leaver here, leave everything." He said urgently.
"What? Why? Emith what is going on?" I asked.
"They're going to kill you Eliot. They couldn't find you before cause your dad hid you well but now they know where you are. They WILL kill you." He exclaimed.
"I can't Emith." I sighed.
"Eliot I'm telling you this because you seem like a good guy. I hate the way our world is run and I want you to survive. You shouldn't become a part of this." He replied.
"I can't. I made a promise to her." I said.
"No, no, no! Eliot you can't do this! You can't lo—-damn I need to go." He stuttered.
Emith suddenly disappeared and I yelled.
"Someone!" I yelled.
People came running up the stairs and stopped at the door.
"Where the hell is the patient?" Someone yelled.
"There was no patient when I got here." I lied.
"I bet it's you who's letting out the patients!" Someone else said.
"Ok everyone move! Now!" I heard the boss yell.
He walked into the room and looked around. His eyes then landed on me.
"Where is the patient?" He asked.
"There was no patient when I got here." I repeated.
"Eliot." He said.
"I'm not lying." I lied again.
"Lies."
"Fire him."
"He's lying."
Everyone was yelling. No one believed me.
"Eliot I'm sorry, you're fired." The boss sighed.
I can't lose this job.
"Boss no. Please, I can't lose my job." I begged.
"I'm sorry Eliot. The evidence points to you. If we find it otherwise you can have your job back. For now though, you need to leave." He replied.
My heart felt shattered. I had worked so hard for my psychology degree and was so happy to be accepted for the position of a psychologist here. Now, everything was gone.
"I'm sorry. Please leave the building or we will have someone remove you." He said.
I could tell he didn't want to fire me, but he had to. I knew that. I walked out of the room, with everyone watching, and left. As I walked onto the streets I turned back one last time.
"Goodbye then." I whispered, a single tear slid down my face.
I slowly walked home while thinking about what would have happened if I never met Charlotte. I knew I'd still have my job, the ferris wheel wouldn't have fallen and almost killed a bunch of people but yet I would have never found out the story of my parents, I would have never been happy for a short amount of time and of course I wouldn't have met Charlotte.
My life took a drastic turn in the past few months, but was it worth it?
"Eliot."
I snapped out of my thoughts and say a man standing in front of me. His eyes were dark brown, almost black, and he had a large scar running down from his right ear to the bottom of his chin.
"Do I know you?" I asked politely.
"No, but I know you." He replied with a smirk.
"Well I'm sorry sir but I must be going." I said.
I walked around him but he quickly grabbed my shoulder. I was about to turn around when suddenly, we were in my apartment. The man then let go of my shoulder and laughed.
It wasn't a nice or happy laugh either, it was a sinister and scary laugh.
"Charlotte, I know your here sweetheart." The man yelled.
Footsteps came racing down the hallways and towards us. Charlotte appeared in the doorway with a scowl on her face.
"Nixon." She spat his name.
Nixon, the guy Charlotte warned me about.
I quickly made my way towards Charlotte and stood beside her.
"What do you want?" She asked.
"You're breaking rules here Charlotte. You know that rule breaking is not aloud." He replied.
"You banished me! Why would I listen to you and the councils rules!" Charlotte yelled.
"Cause you're still one of us! You can't ignore that! Both of you can't ignore that!" He yelled back.
"Screw you and your stupid rules." Charlotte said.
"Just because of what happened here years ago, doesn't mean you can make the same mistakes. You were a good one Charlotte, I pulled a lot of strings to erase your earlier mistake." Nixon smirked.
"Don't you dare talk about that." Charlotte practically growled.
"Cute, She has a soft spot." Nixon laughed.
Then, there was a knock at the door. My eyes went wide and I prayed that nothing would happen. Me and Charlotte were on the opposite side of the room from the door, and Nixon was right beside the door. Nixon smiled at me before opening the door. My heart beat furiously in my ears and I felt like I would faint.
"Hello there. Please, come in." Nixon said.
I watched as he moved out of the way and revealed who was knocking at the door.
"Eliot, hey man. I heard you got fired." Jared said.
"Um yeah. Hey come over here for a second." I said.
"No. He'll stay right beside me." Nixon smirked as he grabbed Jared's arm.
"Dude. Back off." Jared said.
"Let him go Nixon. He's human." Charlotte said wearily.
After she said that, it felt like everything was going in slow motion.
"A human who knows too much. So goodbye Jared." Nixon said.
We both watched as Nixon grabbed Jared's neck and in an instant, twisted it. A sickening snap sounded throughout the room and Charlotte screamed. Jared's body dropped to the ground and Nixon was gone. We both ran to Jared and I checked for a pulse. Tears streamed down my face as I checked his neck and wrist.
Nothing.
"He's gone." Charlotte whispered.
Chapter fourteen. Next chapter will be posted next Saturday.
So ummm yeah that's the chapter. I'm sorry I had to. This is probably the longest and my favorite chapter that I've written so far.
My class list for my new school year came out today and I hate it. I'm not with my friend and everyone that I have in the class I pretty much hate so...
Question: One thing you want to do before you die?
My answer: I want to travel the world before I die.
