Chapter 32: The Chapter Part One

Madison Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Chapter 32: The Chapter Part One

It wasn't very long before we had all reached the Ministry of Magic and gotten to the Department of Mysteries.

The seven of us (Harry, Hermione, Ron, Neville, Luna, Ginny and I) went through the door.

For the first time in months, I was able to through the door at the end of a hallway.

"Someone shut the door," my brother ordered.

As soon as Neville did so, I could tell that Harry regretted his order.

The open door had given us light, and now with it shut, there was none.

I could only see the blue flames on the walls and my reflection on the floor.

Suddenly, there was about a dozen doors. Harry and I couldn't decide which one was the one we could get out of, because the circular walls were moving.

"What was that?" Ron asked.

"I think it was to stop us knowing which door we came in from," Ginny replied in a whisper.

"How are we going to get out?" Neville asked nervously.

"That doesn't matter now," Harry said.

"We won't need to get out until we've found Sirius," I finished for him.

"Don't you dare call out for him though!" Hermione warned.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes at her.

Sure, she was my bet friend, but Harry and I weren't stupid. We knew that we had to stay as quiet as possible.

We went through one of the doors, and saw an enormous tank in the middle of the room. It was large enough to swim in, and it contained pearly white objects that we're drifting around lazily in the liquid like Uncle Vernon in a pool.

"What are those things?" Ron whispered.

"Dunno," Harry replied.

"Do you honestly think that we would know? This is the Department of Mysteries, Ron," I said.

"Maybe they are fish," Ginny breathed.

"No, they're Aquavirius maggots!" Luna excitedly said. "Dad said the Ministry was breeding them-"

Somehow, I highly doubted that.

"No," Hermione said as the two of us moved forward the tank.

I felt myself pale. "They're brains."

"Brains?"

"What the hell are they doing with brains?" I asked.

"We need to get out of here. We need to find a different door-"

Ron cut my brother off. "There are doors here too."

I glanced at Harry. Our eyes met and I thought, "How big was this place?"

Hermione made a large X in the door once we exited so we knew that we already went in that one.

The next door we went in was larger than the last, and had a stone put in the middle of it.

Stone benches were all around the room, soon becoming steep steps like an amphitheater.

In the middle, however, there was a stone archway that had a tattered black veil, fluttering as if it had just been touched.

"Who's there?" Harry asked.

"Careful!" Hermione whispered.

The veil still swayed gently, almost as if someone had just passed through it.

"Sirius?" I called out.

The feeling of someone standing right behind the veil filled me up. Harry and I gripped our wands tightly, slowly crept along the stone archway, but there wasn't anybody there.

"Madison, Harry... This isn't right... Let's go," Hermione sounded scared.

A moment later, Hermione sternly told us like we were dogs that needed to be trained; "Let's go!"

"Okay," I replied.

We didn't move. I swear that I just heard faint whispers coming from the other side of the veil...

"Who's talking?" I questioned.

"Nobody's talking, Madison!" Hermione said as she moved over towards us.

Luna could hear the voices too. "There are people in there!"

"Harry! Madison! We're supposed to be here for Sirius!" Hermione said in a high pitched voice.

"Yeah..."

Minutes later, the seven of us went to another random door. It was locked.

The next door was the one.

There was shelves with orbs lining them.

"Row ninety-seven, right?" Hermione asked.

We nodded. The shelf we were at said row fifty-three.

"Wands out," I ordered.

Soon enough we reached row ninety-seven.

"He should be here.... Or really close..."

"Harry? Madison? I... I don't think Sirius is here."

Nobody spoke until Ron yelled for Harry and I.

"What?" I asked.

"Have you two seen this?"

We followed Ron; he looked at a glass sphere on the shelf.

"Look- it's got both of your names on it."

Sure enough it did.

In swirly letters, it read:

S.P.T to A.P.W.B.D.

Dark Lord and (?) Madison Potter and Harry Potter.

"Oh my God. What is it?"

"Our names aren't here..."

I went out to grab it with Harry.

"Don't.... Don't touch it," Neville said suddenly.

"But it's got our name on it," I said.

Feeling reckless, we both closed out fingers around the dusty ball's surface.

I expected it to be cold, but it was not. Instead, it felt like it had been sitting in the sun for hours, as though a glowing light was warming it.

Expecting something exciting, that would make our long and dangerous journey worth it, Harry and I lifted the ball from the shelf.

Nothing happened. The other five moved in closer as Harry and I gazed at the orb. We brushed it, freeing it from it's layers of dust.

From behind us, a drawling voice said, "Very good, Potters. Now turn around, nice and slowly, and give that to me."
