Chapter 46.5

~Four Years Ago~
(stormy would be 14)

"Is it dead?" Stormella asked her older brother as she bent down to examine her twin brother. Calum Calyn laid on his elder brother's bed.
"This is no time to joke, Stormy." Kian Caylen tells his younger sister who rolled her eyes at him. "Like you don't do it all the time!"

"Just shut up!" Kian shouted at her before testing his bedroom's door, seeing if it was locked or not. The reason why he did this was because him and Stormy did not want their younger brother, Samuel Caylen, to know what had happened to Calum. For some odd reason, their father had avoided hurting his youngest child, which made the other three siblings who have to endure through the pain slightly envy him.
Stormella rolled her eyes before attending back to Calum. With tweezers, she pulled out shards of glass that were lodged inside the boy's tanned skin.

A few hours had now passed and the second youngest Caylen had finally awoken. The three sat in Kian's room. Stormella continued to check on Calum's cuts and bruises due to his great annoyance. It wasn't like this is the first time such things had happened. It was a daily/weekly basis that their father would beat them.

"Why does this happen?" Stormella asked, her voice quivered and her tone was just above a whisper. Calum looked up at his twin sister and then towards his older brother. All three siblings knew how unfair this treatment was. Only their youngest sibling was the pure child that their father wouldn't lay a finger on.

"We just gotta' stick together." Kian says while shoving his hands in his pockets. "And..." He trails off, not knowing what to say.

"...be there and stick up for each other." Stormella and Calum say at the same time they both shared a smile, both of their pale faces smiling bright in the dark room as their bright brown eyes shimmered.

"Pinky promise?" Stormella asked while holding out her frail pinky out towards her brothers.

The three of them tangled their pinkies together, sharing laughs as their fingers awkwardly intwined.

"Promise." They all say in unison.

If only the promises through blood were kept.

Ten years ago, Stormella Caylen was perched on top of a barstool with her lower lip jotted out towards her mother whom forced her to go to tutoring because of Stormella's poor grades. Stormy, however, thought that her straight C's were acceptable, due to her mother's great annoyance.

"I do not need this tutoring! It's completely irrelevant..."

Stormy exclaimed while spinning in the rotating barstool chair, she thought that using big words could influence her mother into taking this tutoring into consideration. Kian, her older twelve year old brother, rolled his eyes at his sister's use of vocabulary.

"Do you even know what 'irrelevant' means?" Kian snapped at his younger sister. He too, was struggling with his grades but managed to keep them at a steady rate. In order to prevent himself from getting tutored by an Erudite peer, he had to at least maintain a low A.

"Do you even know what you mean?" Stormy shot back, mimicking her older brother.

"Stormy," Her mother's voice was thick with anger as her intimidating eyes scourged into hers. Stormy eventually gave up In fighting knowing at this rate she would get know where. "Besides," Her mother began. "Look who has the higher grades in this situation."

That comment stung the child. Nothing like a physical stinging that would only last a minute, this was a comment that you could've felt in your stomach. It's a piercing feeling which becomes lodged inside you and rings inside your conscience.

Stormy muttered a "fine" and departed from the family room and into her room where she'd get ready.

Ella Caylen didn't even feel one ounce of sympathy for her "child", thinking that she should become strong like her original mother. Like, she should toughen up, just like her mother and her mother's sister. If she couldn't control her husband's beatings, Ella should take control of something at least.

Meanwhile, a single tear ran down Stormella's face as she threw on a shirt and brushed her hair. She simply just stared at herself in the mirror;  a lifeless glow reflected back on her. For ten years old, she was strongly built with broad shoulders and thick muscle forming on her arms and legs. However her stomach wasn't flat as the other girls, more fat also surrounded that area. Stormella also had prominent curve which would come in handy when she becomes older. But at ten years old, she had the insecurities of an adult.

Stormella let out a deep sigh before getting her book bag. The main subjects that she needed help with were math and science; history and English were a bore for her to even be challenged with.
She then returned to the family room where her mother stood awaiting her arrival.

Stormella stood tall and proud, covering up her fear and cowardliness that almost made her sick. Something only true Dauntless could accomplish.

Her father at this age did not abuse any of her and her siblings yet, actually, they were a pretty decent family. Or decent in the sense...it's decent for dauntless.

The top priority for Stormella right now wasn't to stay alive, or overcoming fear hallucinations; she just had to keep her grades up, which was something she struggled with.

Stormy and Ella took the train to a popular Erudite library that swarmed with young people. Children about Stormy's age or independents that were probably studying about the aptitude test were all around the massive some of a library. Stormy and Ella's cloths stood out against the white and blue colors of Erudite.

"Now this is what you'll do," Ella began to instruct. She should've been an instructor then, Stormy thought saltily - wanting to be anywhere else but there. "A No- I mean, and Erudite boy will meet you here. He is going to help you with math and science and literature if you need it. Finish all your homework and then report back to the train at exactly 14:00. Understand?"

Stormy's artificial dark brown/green eyes widened into pure orbs.

"5 HOURS?"  Her voice boomed causing a few Erudite to look suspiciously towards them.
Ella rolled her eyes and pushed her foreword towards a nearby table and dropped her books. Without a single word, she left.

"I love you too," Stormy murmured. She wanted to ditch this place, it was almost too easy, Stormy knew deep down inside that her mother probably would've had people watching her.
Before her tout or even arrived, she glided towards a book shelf and pretended to be occupied there. In reality, she studied the figure that was walking towards her table.

It was a boy, probably around my age, with an air of Erudite arrogance that could've almost burned your eyes. He had brown hair that was styled in what we Dauntless called a high quiff. He had bright green eyes that you would've almost got lost in. This boy was also surprisingly built, not scrawny like the other needs here. Beside him was a boy with blonde hair, also styled up in a quiff, but the gel made it seem like you could break his hair off. This boy was even more built than the other, and didn't even wear glasses. The two pre teens walked Stormy's way, but couldn't see her some she concealed herself behind books.
Her mother never told her about two tutors, she thought. Did she honestly think I was that stupid?

These two boys didn't even look like they were Erudite boys. They looked more of Dauntless mini soldiers than Erudite dependents.

Eventually, they departed their separate ways, the blonde boy staying while the brunette left. From behind the shelf Stormy could see his bright orbs of blue eyes. She analyzed his movement as he plopped himself down. His next word surprised her, almost making her do something idiotic like falling.

"You can come out now."
Said the boy Stormella later acquainted as Eric Knight

That was the start of hell.

{once tutoring was over}

Eric's patience had ran out and Stormella was as fiery and feisty as ever. The 10 year old was a great challenge for him, but he loved challenges. They had gotten all of their work done by the fourth hour but now was in an extreme debate about which faction was better and divergence.

"You know what! I'm so done with talking to an imbecile like you." Stormy seethed with venom dripping from her words.
"Wow, you actually spoke a comprehension word." Eric responded with an eye roll. Stormy felt a slight pang in her chest knowing that her anxiety radar would soar through the roof. This was all pointless to her at this point.
But self pity was what she despised at the moment. We're these thoughts of anxiety and possibly depression signs of self pity? Or was she just overthinking several concepts?

With a sassy eye roll, Stormy pushed her chair back and slid all textbooks and materials off of the table.

"I've had it!!!" She yelled enraged and ran towards the train.

Oh what would she be telling her mother?

2 weeks earlier (A week since stormy has been back from erudite)

A tear pricked Stormy's eyes and rolled down her eye as she laid her head on the soft pillow. This was yet another time where her strength would falter, leaving a frail 17 seventeen-year old girl who's shield and armor was taken away.
The doorknob of her and Eric's bedroom aggressively

"YOU CAN'T JUST RUN AWAK FROM YOUR FUCKING PROBLEMS!" Eric's voice boomed from the other side. Stormy attempted to swallow the lump in her throat; she ended up choking instead. Her blood began to simmer, causing her anger to swim in her veins.

"OPEN THE DOOR." Eric once again shouts.

As stated before, Stormy's trust in Eric was weak. She knew that it wasn't Jason, but the transmute serum, that made Jason transform into Eric.
Due to Eric's leader-like and demanding persona, some actions where demanded from him. The transmute serum inside Stormy's system activated leaving not Eric Knight, but Jason Matthews in front of her.

This caused her anxiety and panic prone mind to react in a logical Dauntless away; a symptom this divergent would have to suffer through. Many would say that this would be a fortunate occurrence, but once this divergence is exposed to Transmute serum...all hell breaks loose.
Transmute serum was used for exposing divergents, at Erudite, their plan was to rid of this 'toxic' girl but Jason Matthews refused such doings.

Stormella, being known for her bravery and strong heart, was almost collapsing under pressure of her past.
The girl has been through a lot, mind jumbling scenarios where she'd have trouble assuming are real or fake.

Locked in the bathroom, the broken girl sat on the countertop, her long black hair almost reaching the ground, she quietly wept as a lump remained in her throat. Recalling good and bad memories flooded through her mind when in reality she longed to relive them.
The other side of the door stood the leader whom every labeled as ruthless and malicious because of his past in both Erudite and Dauntless.
His arm was against the door with his head buried inside while his hands rested against the door knob. As much as he didn't want to admit it, this girl was tearing him apart. From a young age he had the strong fondness towards her, he just confused this fondness with any typical lust he had experienced before hand. However, this girl was special. She wasn't like others, her imperfections where baring in front of him yet he saw a beautiful warrior who's exterior was thinly built but on the inside was soft and frail.

However, Stormy had gotten the best of herself as she clutched her body for strength, as though she'd fall apart at any second.

She was like a fallen angel, trying to fix her wings to attain heaven....meanwhile the devil prowled for her lasting innocence, converting her ways into his.
