Chapter 27

"I'm sorry..."

Nonononononono

This can NOT be happening

Noor pouts as Luke steers the beer away from her and takes a huge gulp.
I shook my head and laughed at the couple in front of me.

"You know you can't drink beer," I said while giving her a pointed look. She rolls her eyes and huffs.

Luke chuckles while taking a missive gulp of his beer once again.
"The advantages of not being pregnant."
She glared at him and smacked his shoulder. I laughed at the couple in front of me. They're just too cute.

"Have you heard anything of Sam?" Noor suddenly asked me. A sudden sadness washed over me. I shook my head. Noor got up from her seat and sat next to me. I sighed and leaned back into their couch.

Suddenly my pager went off.

Michael Clifford (Dauntless): Infirmary NOW

That was all I needed to hear. I bolted from my seat, telling them if I wasn't back in 15 then come and look for me.

I ran with all the adrenalin rushing through my system, I sped off towards the infirmary where Michael was. My heart literally felt like it would burst out of my chest at any moment as I ran 100 miles per second.

Please be ok, please be ok...I mentally changed as the familiar building came into view. I burst through the doors of the infirmary just in time to meet a pacing Michael.

"What happened? Where is he? Is everything-" I was cut off by a soft object smashing into my face. Stumbling backwards, I spewed down something...hairy in my mouth.

"Did you just throw a pillow at me?" I asked appalled. He only shrugged. "It was the only way you would shut up," He says with a smirk. I glared at him. That was when he realized the seriousness in scenario
"Sorry," he murmured.

Just as I was about to respond, the doctor came into the room.

"Family member of Samuel Caylen?" he asked as his eyes adverted from me to Michael. . "Right here," I say slightly annoyed. All I want to do was see my baby brother right now. And I will do anything, to see him.

"I'm sorry," he starts. But I didn't have time. I bolted towards the patient ward and turned into the room where Sam was.

My heart literally dropped into my stomach. Tears started to painfully sting my eyes as I saw the scene in front of me.

Sam's body remained the same as the last time I saw him. His bright green eyes where opened and stared into oblivion.
I slowly walked over to the bed, having the feeling as though I faltered one move, it would be the end of everything.

"Sam," I whispered as a tear ran down my face. His face was ghostly pale. My hand reached for his, just at the mere touch of my warm hand into his cold ones sent more tears to spring out of my system.

I used the fabric of my cloths to while the tears as I leaned forward towards Sam. Lightly, I pressed my lips onto his icy cold forehead.
As I got up, my back hit a sturdy chest. I turned to look at Michael who's eyes where red and puffy. He pulled me into a hug and held me tight, as though I was going to be the next to die.

That was when reality hit my like a train. Sam was, gone. His intoxicating laughter would no longer fill the hallways. His footsteps won't accompany mine when we race to the tattoo parlor to buy hair dye from Tori or Noor.
He won't show tease me and my relationship with Eric.

He won't be anywhere.

"He's in a better place," Michael croaks out.

"Don't give me that sympathy BS, Mikey," I said as a sob wracked my body.
I slowly lifted my head up from Michael's chest to face the doctor who looked at me in fear. No, I wasn't going to do anything drastic. But who knows. Anything could happen...

"Can I have a few minutes Doc?" I asked in a sickly sweet voice. He nodded before scurrying away. Just as he left I heard the impact of two people crashing into each other.
I peered out the door, only to meet eyes with Four. Without any words, I crashed into his arms. He gave me that sense of brotherly protection that I missed so much. The question of asking him of his knowledge of his sister prodded my brain, but I forcefully took it aside seeing that it was an inappropriate time for such questions.

"You got her?" Michael's voice echoed softly behind me. I felt Four nodd before hearing the sound of footsteps squeak through the halls of the infirmary.

Finally, after what felt like light years, we pulled apart. Four looked down at me with sorrowful eyes. He wasn't as close with Sam, but he was his instructor and friend.

"He's gone," I tell him. He nodded.
I then chuckled slightly, making Four look at me weirdly.

"He's always wanted to go with a bang," I inform before glancing at the lifeless body of my baby brother. More tears sprung from my eyes "I'd just never thought it would be so soon,"

"That's the most heartless thing a person could do," Lilly spat angrily.

"Geez girlzilla, I doubt he meant it that way." Veronica says back. I rolled my eyes at the two. Ever since they became leaders they've either down each others throats or playing a drinking game at a party. Confusing isn't it?

"You don't have to do it if you don't want to," Cole says.

"Of corse she has to do it, she was close him meaning it would be more sappy for the crew out there," Eric interjects while nodding over to everyone who was gathered in the Pit, waiting for the reason of why they have been called. I glared at him, he gave me an apologetic look, but i merely shrugged it off not caring what anyone said at this point.

"Alright! Listen up," I shouted over the noise. Immediately, everyone became quiet. I gave them all a small smile.

"As you may all know, an initiate jumped into the chasm. Unfortunately, another initiate happened to be with him. That dauntless born was Sam Caylen."

I took in the reaction of the crowd. Some gasped while others cried out. The whole faction knew Sam. He was the favorited child out of the four of us.
I swallowed the lump in my throat before speaking.

"Unfortunately, Sam was injured by a knife piercing his abdomen." My voice started to shake as tears blurred my vision. I sighed before leaving my face black.

"He died this morning." That was when the chaos began. Mournful cries and and shouts of objection.

"Enough!" Eric roars. Lilly and I, who just happened to be on either side of him, literally jumped at his voice.

"We present to you the real reason for your attention," Lilly says loudly.

"Ladies and pansy cakes, the initiate ranking of 2014," I say and turn towards the Ranking board.

If only Sam's name was there...

My eyes scanned over the various initiates who where jumping around celebrating.
A smirk crawled its way to my face when I saw Tris and Four doing some Abnegation shun worthy things.
As sudden jab was felt to my ribs. I turned to Lilly who was smirking also.

"I guess Abnegation don't always tie each other's shoes, eh?"

I laughed. As in I actually laughed. Sam was gone. Calum was gone. My so called parents where gone. Kian may as well be gone.

But hey, at least I can laugh.
