Vikram and Neha pacing nervously outside the ICU unit. Shipra and Ayesha seated on the chairs.

“Hope they are fine.” Neha’s eyes welled up with tears.

“Yes, they will be fine for sure.” Vikram hugged her.

Both of them parted from the hug as soon as they saw the Doctor coming out. Shirpa and Ayesha stood up and walked towards the doctor to know Raya’s condition.

“Doctor, how is Ram and Priya doing now? Are they alright?” Vikram asked the doctor impatiently.

“Mr Kapoor is fine and he has no major injuries. He is on sedation and shifted to the room. Coming to Mrs Kapoor’s condition, she has a few injuries on head, shoulder and cuts on her skin due to glass piercing. Her condition is not stable yet, she will be under observation for 48 hours.” Doctor explained Raya’s condition.

Shipra slumped in a chair and started crying badly hearing about Priya’s condition. Ayesha and Neha tried to console her saying Priya will be fine.

“Mr Shergill, I need to speak to you in a few formalities. Can you please come to my cabin to discuss?” Doctor said and Vikram followed him to Doctor’s cabin.

A nurse came outside and handed over Priya’s belongings to Neha.

“Ma’am it is not permitted to allow more than one visitor. Please try to understand.” Nurse said to Neha.

“Okay sure.” Neha replied with a faint smile.

“Aunty and Ayesha, please go to home. We will manage here and inform you about Priya’s condition from time to time. Khush also must be expecting you at home, please go.” Neha managed to convince Shirpa and send them to home.

“Tell me Doctor, what’s the matter?” Vikram asked, sitting opposite to the Doctor.

“It is an accident case so as per rules we need to inform police.” Doctor said.

“No Doctor. Please do not let this news to come out at least not until Ram comes to consciousness. I sincerely request you on this matter as it is quite confidential for Ram Kapoor.” Vikram requested the Doctor to not let this matter out.

Doctor looked not convinced yet.

“Please doctor, I request you to wait at least until Ram regains his senses.” Vikram added.

“Okay Mr Shergill” Doctor agreed involuntarily.

“Thank you doctor.” Vikram said before moving out of the cabin.

“Priyaaaa!” Ram shrieked and woke up with a jolt.

“Ram relax. Do you have any pain? Shall I call the doctor?” Neha and Vikram came running to the side of his bed to check on him.

“Where is Priya? How is she?” Ram asked, removing the drips from his hand carelessly.

“Ram please don’t do this. You need rest buddy.” Vikram holds Ram tightly, not letting him get up from the bed.

“This is my entire fault; I couldn’t keep her safe.” Tears escaped from his eyes.

“Please go and call the doctor Neha.” Vikram sent Neha out when he could not handle Ram.

“I am responsible for this, it’s my fault.” Ram blabbering the same thing repeatedly.

“No Ram, don’t blame yourself for it. It is an accident; no one has any control over it.” Vikram said, wiping his tears away.

“Let me go.” Ram pushed Vikram away with all his strength.

Vikram stumbled to stand on his feet. “We are not allowed to see Priya right now. She is under observation for a few more hours.”

“Take me to Priya, I need to see her right now.” Ram asked restlessly.

“Okay” Vikram takes him to the ICU ward.

Ram exhaled deeply and walked towards the door peeping through the hole to get a glimpse of her. Ram pushed away the door and entered the ICU ignoring the warnings from nurses and compounders.

Tears trickled down his cheeks as soon as he found Priya lying unconscious with an oxygen mask on. He stepped back shaking his head dejectedly looking at her in a vulnerable state. Gathering some strength, he walked towards her bed and called her continuously.

Doctor and sisters came running, took him to his room and gave sedation to calm him down.

Neha and Vikram are scared to see Ram in this state.

“Mr Kapoor is still in shock so we have given sedation for now. He should be fine by tomorrow.” Doctor informed Nevik and left from there.

Next morning Ram woke up with a jerk when flashes of an accident ran in his mind. He looked around the room and found Vikram sleeping awkwardly in a sitting position.

He got up from his bed and his eyes fell on the things placed on the table in the corner. He looked closely at that packet taking it in his hands.

It contains her earrings, nuptial chain, engagement ring, bangles along with her blood stained clothes, which she wore at the time of the accident.

Ram recollected the scene before the accident that how she blushed to the core after getting compliments from him.

He could not hold back his tears when he ran his shivering hand over her belongings.

Life is very much unpredictable and you can never guess what is coming up in the next moment. They were so happy and content with the love blossoming in their relationship but everything messed up.

“When did you wake up?” Vikram asked, rubbing his eyes. Ram stood silent.

“Are you alright? Let me call the Doctor.” Vikram called the doctor.

“Doctor, please allow me to see my wife. I won’t make any noise this time; I will look at her and come back quietly.” Ram pleaded with the doctor.

Doctor nodded his head in affirmation.

Ram took her hand in his hold and let out a muffled cry seeing her in unconscious state.

“Please don’t give me this punishment. Talk to me Priya, don’t be like this.” His tears fall on her hand. He could feel her grip tight on his hand. He looked at her hoping that Priya opened her eyes but she remained unconscious. He stayed there for some time before coming out of the ICU.

“Doctor, why hasn't she come to her senses yet?” Ram asked the Doctor helplessly.

“Mr Kapoor, please calm down. We have performed all tests and observed the results. There is nothing to worry, as there are no internal injuries. Mrs Kapoor is recovering and will be shifted to a special room from ICU.” Doctor said.

Ram is somewhat relieved to hear this.

Each passing second feels like an hour and each hour feels like a day until he is relieved when the doctor says that Priya is recovering and will regain her consciousness soon.

“Ram good news, Priya is gaining her senses. We can meet her once she is shifted to the room from ICU.” Neha came running to him with joyful tears in her eyes.

“What happened Ram?” Vikram asked, seeing no response from Ram.

“No, I cannot look at her in this state. Please handle everything anyways I am toxic. It would be good if I keep myself away from her for her safety.” Ram said swallowing a lump down his throat.

“What are you saying? Are you mad? I think something is wrong with you after you got hit on your head. You are talking nonsense.” Neha sighed, shaking her head.

“Please don’t force me.” Ram is adamant.

“Is he gone crazy? Make him understand Vikram.” Neha asked, looking at Vikram who stood clueless.

“Ram listen.” Vikram trailed off when a nurse came to inform that Priya was gaining her senses and shifted from the ICU.

They all sighed in relief hearing the good news.

“Go and see Neha & Vikram.” Ram said looking at Nevik.

“Are you serious?” Neha asked, knotting her brows in confusion.

“Yes, please don’t waste time. Go and check on her and inform me about her condition” Ram sent them out in a hurry. Nevik nodded their head dejectedly before moving out of the room.

“I am sorry Priya. I could not keep you safe and I know I am the reason behind your vulnerable state. I am very toxic and no one stays with me for a longer time. I almost lost you.” A lone tear escaped from his eyes holding the nuptial chain in his hands.

“Raaam” Priya called his name in a faint voice struggling to open her eyelids. Neha looked at Vikram when she heard Priya taking his name. They looked at each other helplessly.

Priya slowly opened her eyes adjusting to the light in the room. She is having injuries on her head and shoulder. She felt a sharp tinge of pain hit across her whole body when she tried to sit.

Shipra and Neha helped adjust her to sit resting back on the headrest.

“How are you Priya? You scared us a lot.” Shipra asked while caressing Priya’s hair.

Priya’s eyes are busy in searching to get a glance of her husband’s face but he is nowhere to be seen. Priya became impatient for not seeing her husband around.

Neha understands for whom Priya is searching.

“Ram is alright. Don’t take much stress; it’s not good for you.” Neha said caressing her cheek.

“Ram is gone to meet the doctor. He will be here soon.” Neha lied and gestured to Vikram to get Ram here.

Priya became calm hearing this but was not able to speak anything due to pain.

Vikram nodded and left to call Ram.

“Please come and see Priya. She is looking for you, don’t be crazy.” Vikram said to Ram.

Vikram somehow managed to come along with Ram in the next few minutes.

Ram hesitated to enter the room but Vikram patted his back to go ahead and meet Priya. Their eyes met in a perfect eye lock as soon as Ram entered the room taking baby steps. Everybody else left the room leaving them alone for some time.

Ram sighed in relief when she flashed a warm smile to him. He is longing to see her smile and she is longing to see his face, tears of joy escaped from their eyes seeing each other safe and sound.

Priya gestured to him to come near her when he stood rooted to the spot. He walked towards her, wiping away the lone tears escaped from his eyes. Priya gestured to him to sit on the bed, he agreed and sat opposite to her.

“How are you now Priya?” Ram asked, taking her hand in his hold. He has a phobia of the hospital environment and it is very difficult for him to see her in this situation.

“I am fine.” She said in a low voice and smiled at him. Her smile gives instant relief to him.

Priya could sense the unknown awkwardness surrounded between them. She recollected the moments when she confessed to him after they met with an accident. That was definitely not the way she wanted to confess, but that is fine, at least she could do it.

What made her feel uneasy is the way Ram behaving with her right now? He never stays this calm around her, she shrugged away the thoughts instead of dwelling into the reason, as she is happy to see him fine.

Couple of days passed, Ram was fine and discharged where he insisted to stay with Priya in her room. Shipra, Ayesha, Neha and Vikram come regularly twice a day to meet them, bring them the food and necessary things.

Priya could see the changes in Ram’s behavior but choose to stay silent.

“He must be very scared after the accident,” She thought in her mind.

“What happened Mr Kapoor? Why are you so quiet?” Priya asked, keeping a hand on his hand.

He looked up into her eyes with a guilty stricken face. “Nothing” He said.

His lips and eyes are not coordinated.

“It’s not your fault. No need to feel guilty, it is an accident and not in our control.” Priya said understanding his ongoing unsaid emotions.

He broke down into tears immediately not holding back his feelings anymore. She could feel the wetness on her shoulder when he hugged her in the sitting position resting his chin.

“Look I am fine Mr Kapoor. Please control yourself and I can’t see you like this.” Priya said, rubbing his back.

Seeing him, crying like a child brings tears in her eyes as well.

“I am sorry.” He said in between his sobbing. She parted from the hug wiping tears away from his face.

“Please don’t cry, I can’t see my husband like this.” Priya said looking at him.

“I was so scared of losing you.” He pursed his lips together trying not to cry anymore.

“I was also very scared but see we are fine now so don’t worry much.” Priya smiled at him.

“Is it paining you a lot?” She asked, hovering his fingers on his forehead wound.

“No” He nodded his head sideways.

“Can we go home? I don’t want to stay in the hospital.” She pouted.

“You are not going anywhere until you are fully recovered.” Ram said strongly.

“Please Mr Kapoor.” Priya pleaded with him.

“No way.” Ram replied, earning a sulky face from her.

Her over-protective husband is back on track.

“Did your pain subsided a little?” He asked her.

“A bit better but I think I need some rest. I feel so drowsy due to medication.” She said while her eyelids were dropping.

“Okay take rest for some time.” Ram helped her to adjust her sleeping position. She dozed off to sleep in no time and he kissed on her forehead.

Time rolled into days, Ram took full care of Priya, and helped her to make her walk. Shipra, Ayesha and Neha pampered Priya in absense of Ram.

Vikram manages day-to-day activities in the office on behalf of Ram. He informed the staff that Ram is on a business trip and Priya is on emergency sabbatical leave.
