Laurence looked over at Garroth's face and the blonde gave him a comforting look. Something was off about the place they were stepping into but he couldn't quit now. Reflections of the moon fractured on the glass doors and when they closed they shut with a final noise. Shaking off his jitters he strolled over to the control room. Of course... It was on the other side of the restaurant...
"Hey, I'm going to go check on the animatronics, can you take care of the control room for me?" Garroth asked quietly. His voices echoed almost musically off the walls of the stage and eating area.
Laurence was about to object but Garroth wrapped him in a hug and he could do nothing but smile.
He laughed a little. "Okay, Garroth. Come to the panel when you are done."
Garroth sensed the worry in his boyfriend's voice but decided not to mention it. Laurence hated to be called out. Softly Laurence walked away towards the dark hallway. The shadows from the moonlight jumped at him and the tiles reflected the moon like thousands of glowing eyes. Lifting his chin up he ignored the stares of his fake monsters and continued walking, picking up his speed. Knees shaking he stepped into the control room. There wasn't a door, and the walls had eerie indents in them, as if someone put up a struggle in here not long ago. He swore he heard footsteps not too far away and flattened himself against the back wall. His vision was slowly blurring and his shaky knees could hardly hold himself up. Still against the wall he shuffled to the control panel, taking note of the slightly swaying shadow outside the door.
Suddenly a scream tore through the restaurant like a knife.
"Garroth!" Laurence yelled, tears welling up in his eyes. Kicking the control panel, a sharp shard flew off. His make-shift knife. Glancing quickly at the cameras, the frame it was on showed no animatronics were still in the store room, and the door was wide open. He already knew what the shadow outside his door was. Climbing under the cabinet with his sword, he kept his mind fixed on saving Garroth from whatever hell he had gotten himself into this time. A metallic footstep. Another metallic footstep. A bunny figure turned into the room and smiled a toothy grin that revealed teeth that could slice through flesh and bone effortlessly. Crimson eyes scanned the room slowly, looking for signs of life. A small whimper escaped Laurence and the bunny whirled around, finally finding his prey. The eyes draped with bloodlust met Laurence's. This is NOT the end.
The thought echoed in this head over and over as he clamped his hand around the shard he had grabbed earlier. In one ditch effort Laurence hurled it at the robot, aiming for the small space between the head and neck of the creature. It spiraled in seeming slow motion and found its way into the exact spot. Humming a disfigured version of happy birthday, the animatronic collapsed onto the floor with the crunching of metal.
"Bullseye!" Laurence said, but his joy lasted a matter of seconds before he heard slow and heavy footsteps coming towards the room. Quickly, Laurence crawled out from the panel and started sprinting. Fleeting thoughts of his body being found on the floor pushed him further and further from the earth. Spinning around corner after corner, he stopped when he heard a human noise. Heavy breathing.
"Garroth?" He whispered. He was barely finished with the word when Garroth cried out.
"In here!" His words were draped with desperation and Laurence quickly located the room it was coming from. A few feet away and to the left. He was turning the corner when a cold metallic hand clamped around his jaw. He tried to scream but could feel unconsciousness seeping in. The sides of his vision were going black. His muscles no longer felt connected to his body. He couldn't fight it as they lifted him onto a table and strapped him there tightly. The leather created cuts in his flesh that drew blood. He started to get feeling again and gathered in his surroundings. The tables were bloodstained. Looking to his left Garroth's sky blue eyes met his. Suddenly Laurence saw creatures moving into the room around him. They weren't normal animatronics, though. Their eyes were... human. They looked like hybrids. Only one was full robot and this one was giving the commands in a steely voice.
"Remove the heart. Take away the skin."
Terror gripped Laurence as he realized what the hybrids were. They were what he was going to become. Until now he hadn't been aware of something sharp digging into his left palm. Looking down he saw the shard he had grabbed earlier sticking out of his pocket. Ignoring the pain of it digging into his skin he grabbed the shard and quickly sawed through the first strap. Next the second and third. So far none of the creatures had noticed his escape plan. Once freed he slowly reached over and started the same process for Garroth.
"On three." He said quietly and hoped Garroth knew what he meant by it.
"THREE" Animatronic heads whirled their direction as they sprung up from the tables, kicking the nearest robots to them with amazing force and speed. Laurence's heartbeat was hammering out of his chest as he stabbed the second hybrid. No matter how much he didn't want to think of it, he knew that he was killing real people, people who had been in these very rooms. Suddenly one hit him from behind and he collapsed on the floor crying out. Garroth turned his head over and immediately picked him up, ditching the creepy surgery room as fast as he could. Only... a few more... steps... to the door... slamming his shoulder into the door they collapsed outside, bathed in the silver glow of moonlight.
"You- you saved me.." Laurence whispered.
Garroth smiled. "Are you saying you didn't think I could? Because I'll have you know, anything is possible for love."
