1920's Chicago
Roaring jazz music filled Violet's ears as she sipped on her whiskey. Her eyes are trained on her little brother as he drains the blood of a compelled woman. She can't help but roll her eyes at his dramatics. He was on one of his ripper binges, leaving his sister to clean up the carnage he left behind. Violet didn't mind cleaning up after her brother, she'd been doing it for years now, she stayed with him throughout his binges to make sure he wouldn't do anything to get himself killed. She couldn't abandon her brother, not like Damon had.
Stefan walks up to his sister while wiping his mouth. He sends a smirk her way, going to grab another drink while Violet approaches her.
She places her empty glass on the bar, compelling herself to another one. "Did you remember to erase her memory?" She licks her red-stained lips, her eyes flickering over to Stefan.
The younger Salvatore snorts, rolling his eyes. "Yes." He sips on his bourbon, flashing a $20 at the bartender to keep the drinks coming.
"Let lose Vi." He turns towards her, one elbow resting on the bar. "You've been wound far too tight since Bea died."
Violet tenses at the mention of her old lover. Bea died in the Spanish Influenza pandemic a few years prior, it'd been a slow and painful death but no matter how many times Violet offered the girl her blood, Bea wouldn't take it. She didn't want to be immortal, so Violet simply held her hand until she died. She'd been nursing her sorrows in whiskey and blood, trying to forget about Bea.
"Don't." She says sharply, tensing at the mention of her name. She never talked about Bea. She'd decided after her death that it would be better to forget the girl altogether. The wound was still too fresh for Violet.
Stefan sighs, his eyes catching sight of a blonde flapper across the room. "She looks nice," He nods in her direction. "Why don't you go introduce yourself?"
This had been Stefan's game since Bea died, trying to set his older sister up with every blonde that looked remotely nice enough for her. She'd always refuse, saying that she'd sworn off love forever.
Upon Violet's denial, Stefan makes his way across the room to the blonde. He wasn't going to take no for an answer this time around. Violet needed to heal her wounds and move on, it'd been two years.
Swiftly approaching the blonde, Stefan throws his arm around her shoulders. "You've been making eyes at my sister all night. Go introduce yourself and don't take no for an answer."
Rebekah Mikaelson raises an eyebrow at the brazenness of this baby vampire. Who was he to be telling her what to do?
"Excuse me?" She questions, sticking her nose up in the air with defiance. She didn't listen to her older brother, she certainly wasn't going to listen to this man.
"That's my sister." He points Violet's way as she takes another sip from her whiskey. "She's had a bad few years. She needs someone new and you're perfect for her. She loves blondes."
Rebekah doesn't miss the smirk that lingers on Stefan's face. Now, she'd never admit it to his face, but she had been eyeing the brunette all night while her brother shamelessly flirted with Gloria. She'd just come to terms with her sexuality and she certainly wasn't ready to admit that to her brother just yet. Klaus had a habit of killing her lovers in the past, and she wasn't ready to add a female lover to his growing list of bodies.
"Fine." She gives in against her better judgment. She'd been missing Marcellus lately and needed someone other than her brother to occupy her time until they left Chicago.
Following Stefan towards his sister, Rebekah downs the rest of her drink nervously. This was the first time that she'd be flirting with another woman. She'd always admired them from afar but kept to the strict ideals drilled into her head that she was born to marry and bore children. As the times adapted and changed, so did Rebekah. While same-sex relationships weren't popular yet and they were highly frowned upon, she found herself longing for something more than what she had with Marcellus.
Violet unknowingly finds herself standing with Klaus, both talking about how insufferable their siblings could be at times. She sips her whiskey with a smile, laughing at something Klaus had said when Stefan and Rebekah approach the two. She narrows her eyes, shooting daggers into Stefan's skull.
"Brother. What have you done?" She says lowly, setting her glass down on the bar. She hated the smug look on his face and the insufferable ego he seemed to be carrying these days.
"You'll thank me later." He winks at her before nudging Rebekah forward.
Klaus raises an eyebrow, he too was now shooting daggers into Stefan's skull with a single glare. "And just who do you think you are and what are you doing with my baby sister?" His voice has a dangerous edge to it, one that causes Stefan to shift nervously.
"Stefan Salvatore, and that," He points a finger at his sister. "Is Violet, my older sister. She's been in a bit of a rut lately and I thought this one," He wraps an arm around Rebekah's shoulder. "Could dig her out of it."
Rebekah moves out from under his arm, holding her hand out towards Violet. "Rebekah Mikaelson, a pleasure to meet you." She says shyly, looking up at the taller girl through her lashes. She couldn't help but admire the dark purple dress that clung to the brunette.
Violet takes her hand out of politeness. "Violet Salvatore." She gives the girl a tight smile, trying to ignore the spark that ran up her arm at the contact.
Rebekah can't help but blush at the deep tone of the girl's voice. She wasn't quite used to feeling this way about other women, but something about the girl standing in front of her made her stomach do backflips.
Klaus eyes the two for a moment before he grabs Rebekah's arm, dragging her away from earshot of the other two vampires. He has a scowl on his face as he pushes Rebekah into a corner. "What game are you playing sister?" He all but growls in her face.
Rebekah shakes her head in confusion. "I don't know what you're talking about Nik!" Her eyes search the bar for Violet, finding the girl looking at them with narrowed eyes.
Klaus growls again. "The air shifted when you touched her hand. That hasn't happened since Elijah met Katerina."
The thought of the doppelganger made Rebekah sneer in disgust. She pushes Klaus' hands from her shoulders. "So what? She seems perfectly nice and I want to get to know her. Let me have fun, Nik, for once in my life." She walks away before Klaus can say anything else, going back up to the Salvatore siblings.
"I apologize for my brother, he's quite territorial." Rebekah shoots the two an apologetic smile.
Violet smiles back at the girl. "He has to be, with a sister as pretty as you." She says gently, surprising herself at the words.
Rebekah blushed and ordered another drink before walking to one of the tables where she sat and talked with Violet until Gloria closed the bar.
✴
Over the next few weeks, Violet found herself falling in love with Rebekah. The two girls would spend every waking moment with each other. They talked about their brothers and the antics they got up to in their younger years. They spoke fondly of their mothers and spitefully of their fathers. Rebekah told her of the spell her mother performed to turn her family into vampires and how they sired the next line during their time in France. Violet told her of her transition into a vampire and the circumstances that surrounded it. She told her of the way Stefan forced Damon to turn and the hatred he instilled in their older brother at that moment.
A month after their first meeting, Violet once again finds herself in Gloria's bar, only this time she watches Rebekah with a fond smile as she sways along to the music. Their brothers were in a booth along the wall, two girls sandwiched between them as they drank from their necks. As Gloria starts a slow song, Violet walks down from the bar and makes her way towards Rebekah.
She stands in front of her with a smile. "Can I have the pleasure of a dance Ms. Mikaelson?" She questions softly, extending her hand toward the blonde. If it had been any other place in the city, Rebekah would have refused, but Gloria made her bar a safe space for all supernaturals and their habits.
She places her hand in Violet's with a smile. "I'd be honored." She says with a blush coating her cheeks, swaying gently to the music with her head resting on Violet's shoulder.
"Can I confess something?" Violet questions, feeling her heart pounding in her chest. She can feel the anxiety creeping up in her veins as Rebekah pulls her head off her shoulder to look at her. She easily gets lost in the blue pools of her eyes, finding herself swimming in a vast blue ocean that she never wanted to leave.
Rebekah nods, taking a step closer to the girl. "You know you can." She says with a smile. Rebekah had bared her heart to the girl and she knew of Violet's walls due to her past.
Violet blinks, pulling herself from the ocean in Rebekah's eyes. "I think I've fallen in love with you." She says so quietly that Rebekah almost doesn't hear her. "It scares me, knowing that I've opened my heart up to someone again. Rebekah, you've taken my heart and ran away with it."
The blonde stares speechlessly for a moment, a blush coating her cheeks. "You are the first woman I've loved." She says gently. "As well as the last. You've taken my heart as well. Can I trust you with it?"
Violet pulls her closer, a hand on the small of her back, a touch that sends Rebekah's stomach into a flurry of butterflies. "You can trust me with it," She nods. "I never intend to break it."
They stop swaying and close the distance between them. Their lips meet tenderly, stopping time in its tracks. The feeling is so foreign to Rebekah, yet she welcomes it with open arms. It was so different from Alexander and Marcellus, it was soft and gentle and warm. It made her heart stop in her chest completely. It froze the blood in her veins and made her mind go crazy. She never wanted the feeling to stop, she could stay in that moment forever.
Klaus and Stefan watch their sisters with fond smiles on their faces, clinking their glasses together before the Hybrid slides a stack of twenties across the table towards his friend.

Chicago had become a place of love for Violet. She found a new sense of life within the busy city, one which she hadn't felt since her death years prior. She never wanted to be anywhere else. She would make a home here with Rebekah and their brothers, a place where they could finally be happy.
Standing in her apartment, she twirls Rebekah around to the soft playing music coming from the radio on the counter. The two girls were in nothing but their undergarments, Rebekah's hair falling in soft waves down her shoulders.
Violet places a kiss on Rebekah's head as the girl lays her head on her shoulder. "Vi?" She hums softly, eyes looking at the daylight ring on Violet's pointer finger.
The woman in question hums in response, pulling the girl closer.
Rebekah's eyes flicker up. "Promise me this is forever." She speaks gently, her heart in her throat. She'd never been this vulnerable before.
"Forever and a day." Violet replies softly, sealing the deal with a gentle kiss to Rebekah's lips.

One of Violet's favorite books that she'd read since her transformation is Alice in Wonderland. One quote in particular always stood out to her and she never knew why. It's something Alice asks the White Rabbit, she asks 'How long is forever?' and the rabbit responds, 'Sometimes, just one second.'. She never understood why that quote stood out so much to her, until her last night with Rebekah.
The two girls were dancing slowly, Violet twirling Rebekah around as Stefan and Klaus watched them with smiles. The two commanded all attention on the dance floor, neither realizing the impending danger.
As Klaus stares intently at the couple, he can vaguely hear the distant siren wailing, growing louder as it comes closer to Gloria's. Before either vampire has time to react, bullets are shot inside the bar with the announcement of the Chicago Police following just moments before. Screams erupted in the bar, panic filling the room. Violet immediately covers Rebekah's head, trying to pull her away from the dance floor.
Klaus downs the rest of his drink before going after his sister, leaving Stefan alone at the table. Violet brings Rebekah behind the bar, the girls looking at each other worriedly. The brunette bends down, grabbing one of the bullets, her eyes widening in momentary shock. "They're using wooden bullets." She reveals. "They know."
She doesn't miss the look of fear that crosses Rebekah's face, or the fear in her voice as she speaks. "That means he's here."
Violet places a hand on Rebekah's cheek, prompting the girl to look at her. "Who? Who's here?"
Before Rebekah can answer, Klaus demands her presence as he walks down the steps. "Rebekah! Come on, we've got to go sweetheart."
In a quick moment of debate, Rebekah grabs Violet's hand and goes to her brother. Klaus grabs his sister's hand, leading the two girls out of the bar.
"What's going on?" Violet looks around the chaos-filled bar for her brother, not finding him anywhere.
Klaus gives the girls a shove forward, Rebekah's necklace falling off in the process. He waits for the two to disappear outside until he makes his way over to Stefan. Placing a hand on his chest, he looks his friend in the eyes. "Stefan," He has a brief moment of hesitation. "I'm sorry but the fun has to end here."
"What are you talking about?" Stefan pants in confusion, his only thought being to find Violet.
Klaus takes a step forward. "You must forget Rebekah and me until I say otherwise. You never knew us, Stefan. Thank you. I had forgotten what it was like to have a brother."
Stefan blinks as Klaus flashes away.
Rebekah and Violet stand at the end of the car, both looking around worriedly for Stefan.
"Let's go, Rebekah, Violet," Klaus says, pulling the door to the car open.
Shaking her head, Violet looks over at the man. "Stefan will be here any second. Please, just one more moment."
Rebekah watches as her brother stalks forward, staring darkly into her eyes. "Do you want to die? We've been found. We need to move."
She takes a step forward, challenging her brother. "Not without Stefan. Violet won't abandon him."
"Stefan's not coming," He shakes his head. "We have to disappear. He'll draw too much attention. Violet has to let him go."
The girls cock their heads to the side, not understanding what was happening. "What have you done?" Rebekah questions her brother.
He grabs her arm, pulling her away from Violet. "Come on, we don't have time for one of your tantrums."
Pulling her arm from her brother's grasp, she takes a step backward towards Violet. "I don't want to run anymore, Nik! All we do is run. I want to be with Violet." Her hand finds Violet's as the tears pool in her eyes.
Klaus knew this day would come, when Rebekah found her mate and would leave him, just like his other siblings. He had sensed it from the moment Violet and Rebekah met. "Fine." He says simply. "Then choose. Her or me?"
When Rebekah doesn't say a word and closes her eyes, Klaus has a moment of pride. "That's what I thought." He turns his back, walking towards their vehicle. "Get in the truck. Say your goodbyes, let's go."
Pressing herself into Violet's side, she lets the tears roll down her cheeks. "Goodbye, Nik."
Klaus falters, his heart breaks slightly in his chest. Closing his eyes, he turns his head towards the ground. He knew what he had to do.
It happened too fast for Violet to comprehend. As they turn to walk back to the bar, Klaus appears in front of them, stabbing a dagger into Rebekah's heart. She gasps, her air slowly being cut off as grey veins appear up her body. Violet stands frozen, watching as Rebekah slowly desiccates before her eyes. She catches Rebekah before she can hit the ground, a sharp pain piercing her heart. Her hand shakes as it hovers over Rebekah's face, her heart beating rapidly in her chest.
"W-what have you done?!" She cries, her eyes looking up at Klaus.
The man crouches in front of her, cradling her cheek in his hand. "I'm sorry love, but this has to be done."
In the blink of an eye, Rebeakh was taken from her arms, and she now stared Klaus in the eyes. She could see the tears and the regret forming in them. "Listen carefully to my words. You'll remember Rebekah and the love you two share. You'll remember every moment, every kiss. You'll remember your promise of 'forever and a day'. Only when the dagger is removed from her chest and she sees you, will you forget. You won't remember the name Rebekah Mikaelson until the day my father is dead."
He places a kiss on her head before he snaps her neck, flashing her back to her apartment with the new daylight ring Rebekah had acquired for her and a note.
Klaus would only come to learn the consequence of this singular moment in time when he returned to Mystic Falls to break his curse.

Below is the daylight ring Rebekah picked out for Violet.
