PAUL NEVER thought he'd be able to eat comfortably. All his life, he was a murderer on the run. He'd never get a chance at having a single second of peace. Paranoia ate him up and chewed him up inside out.

Till there was Ringo.

He couldn't stop thinking about the people he killed. They were disgusting--- Who in their right mind would sell their own bodies? And his mother... Even though she's been gone for a long time, her words of wisdom still stuck on him as if written by a tattoo needle.

The sounds of utensils scraping plates and the sound of Ringo's chair squeaking as he swayed his legs to and fro would've have bothered him. Should've have bothered him. But Ringo was different. Hell, he was always different.

"A penny for your thoughts?" Ringo asked as he licked his fingers clean of nutella.

"I... I just feel strange, y'know?"

Ringo furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"I don't know, really." Paul mumbled. "It's like one of those feelings you can't just describe with one word."

"Use phrases, then." Ringo coaxed. "Whatever it is, I can take it."

"I..." Paul licked his dry lips. "I feel so normal around you. Which is the strangest thing because I murder people in cold blood, how can I be normal?" He chuckled emptily at the absurdity of it all. Ringo, however, wasn't laughing at all.

"Paul..."

"I'm sorry," He broke in, and the chair scraped loudly as he stood up. "I just—" Emotions flickered like broken lights behind his eyes. "I should just leave right now."

Ringo rose up, panic and surprise written all over his face. "Paul! Paul--- fuck!"

He ran as fast as his thin legs could carry, and he gripped on Paul's black shirt and looked at him with big, blue eyes and a pleading look.

"Please don't go." He whimpered.

The door was ajar, and Ringo's eyes glazed up in the moonlight. Paul's grip on the doorknob tightened. Then color returned to his hands as he grabbed the boy into his arms.

"Okay," Paul whispered. "I won't go."
