20 | the dark side gives pain
Eleanor didn't fully know what she had done or what the others had done. Not until the darkness that clouded her mind had left, not until Rachel killed her father whilst they laid outside the house on the porch.
She remembered details, but not everything.
She pushed herself up instantly and looked at everyone.
She didn't know what she did but she felt bad. Her eyes landed on Gar's face and she realised what happened. She gathered they had beat him, and for that she wished herself to land in hell whenever she final found death.
Eleanor appeared in front of him, giving him space as she stared. "I-I'm s-so so-sorry." She told him, her hand shadowing her mouth.
She stepped to him, watching him flinch away.
"Eleanor?" He asked.
"It's m-me." She promised as he stepped to her.
There was fear in his step but nonetheless he stepped close enough to feel comfort. His fake older sister had beaten him, and he knew it wasn't her fault but there was something so scary about seeing someone you love hurt you.
"I-I'm so sorry." She told him. "C-can cl-clean you up?"
He nodded, taking her hand very loosely in his as she guided him back to the creepy house. She brought him up to the bath room, grabbing a face cloth and filled the sink up with water.
"I-it's best to no-not let the blood stain." She told him, submerging the cloth in the warm water before squeezing the water out, leaving it to be damp.
She very slowly placed her hand to the side of his face to hold him still, telling him everything she was doing before she did it.
Rachel appeared in the doorway watching the two. "Are you two okay?"
The two nodded as she joined them, she sat on the floor whilst they sat on the edge of the bathtub.
"Ho-how are y-you?" Eleanor asked, quickly glancing down as she continued to gently pay Gar's face and clean the blood of his skin.
"I'm okay."
"Yo-you don't h-have to be." She told Rachel, as Gar hissed in pain. "So-sorry."
"Thank you." Rachel spoke, looking at the wall opposite as she leaned her back against the bathtub. "Eleanor?" Eleanor hummed. "Can I try and fix your speech?"
"Uh, ye-yeah. L-let me just finished this."
Rachel nodded, waiting as Eleanor got off the last bit of blood from the boys face. She quickly cleaned his hands before taking a look at his chest and stomach.
There weren't many skin punctures but she was sure one of them had broken a rib or two of his.
"I forgive you." Gar told her, watching as only guilt could be seen.
Eleanor smiled at him, shaking her head.
She stepped away, putting the blood stained cloth back in the water before sitting down opposite Rachel. "Ha-have at i-it, Ray."
"Ray?" Rachel asked. "I like it." She decided, carefully placing her hands on Eleanor's neck, serges of power rushing through her body.
Eleanor clenched her eyes closed.
Rachel let go after a small while and looked at her. "Well?"
"How do we know if it worked?" Eleanor asked. Her eyes widened in happiness. "I'm not . . . I'm not, oh my god! I can talk fully."
Excitement thought against the guilty as she wrapped her arms around Rachel, holding the teenager close. "Thank you, so much."
"Anything, after what you've done for me."
"What are sisters for?"
Rachel smiled. "Even after what you had to do?"
"When I claimed you as my sister, I meant it. Just like I mean it for Gar." Eleanor promised, pulling away and looking up at Gar. "Ready to head down?"
He nodded, and so the three headed down the stairs and outside just as an ambulance and reports and what not arrived.
Eleanor pulled her hair down, running her fingers through it as she came to stand by Jason. He looked at her, giving her a small smile.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"I'm sorry, there's a camera, I'll be right back." He told her, very quickly excusing himself. Eleanor raised a brow as she watched Jason run to stand in front of it, his Robin costume and mask on show. "Titans are back, bitches! Whoo!"
She laughed lightly as she walked over, grabbing his hand and pulling him away, an action that would soon turn its viewers crazy.
Hank approached the two teens. "You're kind of an asshole, are you, kid?"
"Yeah, but you like me. Admit it."
"Never gonna happen."
"He totally doesn't like you." Eleanor laughed, linking her arm through his. "Come on, go find the others."
"You're not stuttering, like earlier." Jason pointed out.
"Rachel fixed me." She told him, forcing him to walk with her. Once he matched her speed she unlinked her arms and grabbed her phone from her pocket, checking if it now had battery — and it did.
The group stood between two cars, the teens and Dick taking Donna' car.
"I gotta give it to you, Rach, you really know how to throw a party." Dawn joked lightly.
"Yeah, do it again." Jason commented. "Love beating Dick's ass."
"Keep dreaming, bird boy."
"Nice one, really inventive." Jason commented as Dick lightly punched his shoulder.
Dick opened the car door, turning back to them. "I'll be here all week."
Eleanor looked up from her phone, where she had been bugging Bruce Wayne with texts asking him to officially take her in. She assumed he'd agree due to being her godfather.
"Maybe give us a heads-up next time so I can do my own eye makeup. Your demon dad sent muck for subtlety."
"Really?" Kory queried. "I kinda liked it. It was really gothic, you know?"
"Yeah, I think it looked really hot with my bright pink hair, kinda balanced it out."
"Uh . . . I didn't like it." Gar spoke, lifting his hand.
"Hey, man, again." Hank said, coming away from his car. "We're really sorry."
"No, it's cool." Gar spoke coming to stand with the others. "I know it wasn't really you guys. It couldn't've been, Dick was actually kinda funny, in a weird, psycho way."
Dick stepped from where he was with the bonnet of the car. "You do realise I'm listening."
"You guys have fun." Dawn said, giving Rachel a hug.
"Where are you going'?" Hank asked, looking at the nearest teen.
Rachel turned around. "Where are we going?" She called over to Dick.
"Uh, I don't know. It's a mystery."
Eleanor had a appeared in front of Hank, wrapping her arms around his neck whilst he placed his around her waist — mimicking her tight grip.
"It's good to see you again, kid."
"Yeah, you too." Eleanor spoke, resting her head against his chest.
"I'm sorry about your family."
Eleanor let go, shrugging as she acted as though she was over it. "Live for the trauma." She joked before stepping over to Dawn, hugging her.
"You've got my number now, small Shelby, keep in contact."
She nodded letting go.
"Another mystery?" Rachel questioned from behind Kory and Dick, dragging everyone's attention.
"Get used to it. Life's a lot better with them."
"Sounds like something Batman would say."
Eleanor stepped over to Donna, pulling her into a hug. "Thanks for having me, and Dick I guess. And thank you for returning to this."
Donna smiled as she hugged the teenager. "Anytime you need, Eleanor. I'm glad your stutter is gone."
"Yeah, was fun and all, but like it's so much easier to speak with out it." Eleanor agreed, pulling away from Donna.
And finally, Eleanor said good bye to Kory, with a hug and a small whisper saying she loved the hair colour, much to the woman's amusement.
"Get in the car." Dick told the teens.
"Shotgun!"
"Oh, my god!"
"Hey, seriously?"
Eleanor shrugged. "I'm on aux." She told them, opening the car door and climbing in the back next to Gar whilst Jason climbed in the boot and Rachel got in the front.
"Ray open that drawer thingy." Eleanor said, point at it. "And can you grab me the lead?"
"Uh, yeah." The girl did just that, passing one end to the pink hair girl as she plugged it into the car.
"Thank you." Eleanor plugged her phone in.
They all called back their goodbyes to Kory as they waited for Dick to get in. They watched the Titans interact before their soon to be mentor got in.
After being parked outside of Wayne Manor the crew were back on the road, and soon enough the Golden Gate Bridge.
