08 | the reunion

When the two returned to lonely Jason Todd they found him staring at a paining. "Who's this?"

"Niccolo Machiavelli." Dick answered, his hands buried in his jean pockets.

"Oh, yeah." The boy spoke, turning back to the two. "Bruce has talked about that dude. Sounds like a total savage."

"'If an injury has to be done to a man, it should be so severe that his vengeance need not to be feared. Severities should be dealt out all at once, so that's their suddenness mag give less offence. Benefits ought to be handed out drop by drop, so they may be relished the more.'"

Jason and Eleanor met eyes, both unsure what to say after Dick's trance like state and far to long quote.

"I forget Bruce is totally just an emo with an angsty hero complex and an army of children." Eleanor spoked, rocking on her heels. She was totally regretting wearing (practically new) heeled boots for dinner, but she hadn't expected this to all happen — but at least they'll be broken in by the time this all finishes.

Jason nodded at the two. "You know, I used to read about you as a kid." So he decided to change the subject, finding that he could not outwit Dick on some random guys quotes. "Bruce has told me tons of awesome stories about you."

"I bet he has."

"I know it's none of my business but he never said why you quit."

"I guess I just couldn't cut it."

"Totally believable." Eleanor commented, sarcastically nodding at him. Dick went to slap the back of her head, but the girl let out a small squeal and ducked, elbowing him hard in the ribs. "Stop abusing me."

"No, it's funny."

"Wow, great law abiding detective, you are." She pointed out adjusting her dress. She didn't like that she didn't have a top underneath because it had blood on it, it made her heel more exposed then she was. She use to wear dresses with out tops, but over time found that she liked how a lot of them looked layered over a top.

"Are you thirsty? I'm gonna go check out the brew sitch." Jason asked them, as he strode past the two.

"What?"

"The beer situation."

"I want a lemonade, if he has any."

"On it."

"Thanks, Jason." She called out as he disappeared. Dick raised a brow at the teenage girl, his arms crossed. "What?"

"Thanks, Jason." He mimicked her polite tone.

"I'm being nice, you should try it." She told him, patting his arm before appearing on the couch. She pulled off her heeled boots and moved her feet and ankles to relieve tension.

"You're not nice to me."

"Yeah, but I don't like you."

"I'm going to check on our guy."

"Have fun, dickhead."

Dick pulled a face at her before leaving her alone.

Eleanor pulled out her phone, keeping her self occupied with a bright screen. She used anything to keep her mind from wondering to it's darker thoughts.

She suspected Dick wasn't just checking in, but rather getting rid of or at least searching for the tracker in his body.

She opened texts from Gar, questioning where she was. To which she simply answered with 'chicago x'. Eleanor wasn't one for capital letters or punctuation in her texts. For the most part they were as few words as possible.

"One lemonade, ma'am."

Eleanor looked up, tucking her feet under her as she took the glass from him. "Oh, thank you, kind sir. Should I expect this to be the posh shit?"

"Definitely the posh shit." Jason agreed, sitting next to her. "You boots look killer."

Eleanor glanced down to her heeled boots. "Oh yeah they totally look hot but they're totally killing me, I haven't even finished breaking them in. My feet are in so much pain. Funny story, I wore them for dinner in Ohio like two days ago and here I am with the new Robin in Chicago."

Jason let out an amused laugh, placing his arm around the back of the sofa after opening his beer.

The two had continued talking and laughing, until Dick strode in a bandage around his arm. "Jason, thanks for the help back there. But I'm good now, you should head back to Gotham." He walked over to the teens, placing the tracker in Jason's hand.

"What the hell, man?"

Dick went over the Robin suits. "I'm not Robin anymore.
Have a safe trip back."

"You didn't have to do that." Jason got up from next to the pink haired girl, coming to stand over by Dick.

"Yeah, I did. And you should, too."

"Why?"

"Because we're not animals in Bruce Wayne's private zoo." Dick said, his voice becoming louder.

"You don't get it, man. He did it for you. For us. In case anything ever happened, he could find us."

Dick picked up one of the cases and shoved it into Jason's arms. "Thanks for stopping by. Tell Bruce I'm gonna need the place for a couple of days. He should be okay with it."

Jason placed down his case and beer bottle. "I'm not sure you really understand him, man." He said, approaching Dick.

"I think I'm the one guy in the world that does."

"Alfred! Babs, her dad." Eleanor called over. "They know Bruce." She spoke, going through Snapchat stories before she'd return to opening the red squares.

Eleanor liked to let random people add her. She was lonely after all, but a lot of the time she end up getting unsolicited dick pictures and videos. As much as they disturbed her, she found them hilarious.

"Eleanor!"

"Eleanor." She mocked to herself, keeping her voice barely audible as she continued to only half listen to the Robins.

"Look, Jason. He might have you thinking that you're a partnership, but everything Bruce does is in the best interest of one person . . . Bruce. Time to go." Dick tapped a button.

"Sorry, man. I can't." He pulled out an envelope from inside his jacket, holding it out to Dick. "He wanted me to show you these."

Dick took the envelope and soon the two had sat on the other side of the couch to look at photos whilst Eleanor stayed where she was, talking a stranger down from ending their life.

Soon enough the two had left Eleanor — she told them to call her if needed.

But soon enough Dick came walking past with Jason following.

Jason had sat next to Eleanor (who had pulled her shoes back on and finished her lemonade) as Dick came strolling in with Kory, Gar and Rachel following. "Who are you're friends?" He asked pushing himself up.

"Not important."

"Gar!"

"Eleanor!"

Eleanor was up in a few seconds with her arms wrapped tightly around her green haired friend. His arms were tight around her waist. Giddiness washing over them.

"Who's he?"

"Not important."

"Dick has an attitude problem, today." Eleanor spoke, resting her arm over Gar's shoulder as he leaned into her.

"Anybody want a beer?" Jason offered.

"Yeah, I do."

"No, he doesn't, he's fifteen and doesn't have the money to pay for an addiction." Eleanor pointed out.

"You have the money."

"I'm not paying for you're addictions and mine."

"That can't be Adamson." Kory said, judging the boy after brushing off the peculiar conversation happening between Gar and Eleanor.

"He's not Adamson. Adamson's in the bathroom. Unconscious."

"Fun times." Eleanor added, a false smile on her face as she pulled her arm from Gar, clasping them behind her back as she rocked back and forth.

Rachel stepped over to Jason. "Hi, I'm Rachel."

"Jason."

"Ok, who we all are doesn't matter right now. Can we just chill out, relax, sit on the couch and watch TV or something?"

Gar looked at Eleanor. The girl shrugged.

Gar wandered off to the table, looking at the identical cases. "Yo, when did you get another one?"

"That ones mine."

"Yours? Wait, you're Robin, too?"

"I thought you were Robin." Rachel spoke, walking over to join Gar.

"I am."

"He was." Jason and Eleanor corrected.

Eleanor watched Dick. He very much looked like he was on a verge of a break down. She stepped away from Kory and Dick, going over to Gar and Rachel near the table.

"Okay. How many Robins are there? Are there a lot? Cause I would love to—"

"Okay, quiet." Kory cut the excited teenager. "Sit." The three sat down. Eleanor and Rachel on the table and Gar on a chair. "Bathroom." She told Dick. With that the two adults were gone.

"Can I be Robin?" Gar whispered. Eleanor wacked him across the head. "Ow."

"Good." She stated, as silence past over them.

After a while Dick was back and taking Jason with him and offering Eleanor to come with. She gathered she was invited so Jason wouldn't talk to him to much and to help make sure no one fully fell out.
