Chapter 1

It was Mackenzie's first day at Midtown High School, after years of home-schooling. She didn't mind being home-schooled, a tutor would come in and teach her the average you would in school, after that her father would train her including mastering her abilities.

After a lot of yelling from her mum she dragged herself up and got a shower, getting dressed in her black and white jersey, skinny jeans, along with white air max trainers.

When Mackenzie entered the kitchen, she could smell the wood rotting as well as the rust on the tap. There was a fruit bowl on the table, so she grabbed an apple and sat down listening to the ruckus of Hell's Kitchen wishing she could see the sky just for once in her life time. She shouted bye to her mum yet her mum wanted to drive her to Mackenzie's first day of school so she let her. Before she left the apartment Mackenzie grabbed her black out glasses together with her blind stick and left for school.

Mackenzie's POV

My mum dropped me off at Midtown High School by the front office. As I walked to the desk I smelt a thick layer of Channel perfume and the stench from make-up, it may look nice but it smells terrible, so I guessed she was in her 20's.

"Erm.. Hello, is this the front office?" I asked, knowing full well it was the front office.

"Yeah, what do you think it is?" She sneered not even glancing at me.

Rude

"I'm new here and I need my time table" I fake smiled.

"Name?" She asked.

"Mackenzie Murdock" I answered.

"Okay" She replied while typing for a few seconds "Here you go"

"Sorry can you tell me what lesson I have and where the time table is?" I questioned. She looked up and noticed I was blind then swore under her breath.

"Oh I apologise, I didn't realise that you were blind!" I half smiled "You have maths with Mr Gordon, I'll get someone to lead you there." At the same time guiding my hand to the piece of paper

Now she's being nice!

"Thanks" I say half-heartedly. She nodded and called someone on the phone. I just stood there resting on my cane, listening to people's conversations, it may be ears dropping but it passes time.

Suddenly I heard foot steps coming towards me which caused me to stand straight with no hunched back.
"Hi, my name is James Drosse, I'm head boy of the school and I'll show you to your class" He said putting his elbow out for me to hold which I did. As he was leading me to my class, he was talking about the schools policy, I wasn't really listening, but what caught my attention was the snickering and giggle at the side of us. There were some comments such as 'Look at head boy over there! The only girl he will ever get is blind!' Joined with a bunch of laughter. You little sh-
"Here's your classroom, if you need any help just ask me, okay?" He told me. I smiled and nodded and walked into the room. Chewing gum and body odour hit my nose like an earthquake. I guess I'll have to get used to this. The soul of my shoes scraped the floor as I went to go find a seat. I could hear only one heart beat next to me so the next seat must be empty.
"Is this space taken?" I asked.
"No. Does it look like?" He answered.
"I don't know but thanks anyway" I sat down, placed my cane at the side and started listening to the teacher. I heard him look at me and put his head down even more.

I hate when people be nice to me only because I'm blind, but I hate the people who dance around me like I'm made out of glass. I didn't have to do much because the teacher didn't have any Braille books.

The lesson went by in a blur and I was getting up when someone stopped me. "Sorry about before" He told me.
"It's alright" I replied as I reached for my cane.
"My name's Peter Parker"
"Mackenzie Murdock, can you tell me what I've got next please?"
"Yeah, you've... Got... P.e"
"Thanks"
"Do you want me to take you?"
I nodded and stood up taking hold of his elbow. We didn't talk much except from the odd chit chat. He dropped me off, we said our goodbyes and he went off to join the boys.

I couldn't participate in P.E because it was a safety regulation. So I had to sit on the grass and either watch (which I can't do) or read. I sat on the hill while I picked out one of my Braille books and started to read. Every so often I listened to the girls doing gymnastics or the boys doing basketball . As I was finishing chapter six I could smell rubber getting close to me, wind picking up, someone is throwing a ball at me. I quickly pretended that I was feeling for my bag while arching my back, hearing the sounds of my back cracking. It passed my spine with a breeze.
"You've got a shit aim, bro!" One of the guys said. Along with pushing and swearing. I decided to move from where I was but as I got up the bell rang and everyone went to go get changed, which made me get an early lunch.

I was on my way to lunch listening to the environment around me.
'I hate these kids! Look at that work how can I mark this!'
Well that is your job. I can't be bothered listening to her anyway. On to the next room
'Maya your gonna have to go to the police.'
'I can't he watches my every move.'
'Look at your bruises on your arms!'
'I know bu-'

Thud!

"What the-"
"Watch where your going blind girl." A girl stated. Mackenzie don't hit her. You are calm. You didn't fall she tripped you.
"Sorry you didn't watch where you're going." I mumbled under my breath, as she walked away.
"Are you okay?" A girl a little younger than me asked.
"Yeh I'm fine" I grumbled.
"Hi I'm Lucy ! don't mind them girls over there, they think they run the place because her dad owns the school."
"I'm not bothered anyway. I can fend for myself thank you." I shrugged.
"Do you want to have lunch on our table?" She asked.
Our?
"Ye sure why not." I replied. She grabbed my arm and literally dragged me to the canteen.
"Lucy slow down a minute your not going to starve." Lucy apologised and walked a bit slower.

We got there and there lay two boys and two girls. "Hey guys! This is Mackenzie." Lucy exclaimed.
"Hi I'm Dylan. This guy next to me is Peter, screamo girl over there is Leanne-" Dylan said with a very camp voice.

Gay.

"It's not Leanne anymore it's Cassandra!" Leanne/Cassandra said.
"Sorry Cassandra." Dylan joked, which earned a death glare from LC.

Do you like my nickname... ay ay.

"Aren't you gonna sit down Mac?" Dylan asked. I nodded and pretended to try and find my seat. Throughout lunch we just talked and joked around, think I've just found myself some friends.

It was the end of the day, we had five minutes left until the bell went. I got to leave early, woo! I waited outside until Foggy came.
A few minutes later Foggy came and waved at me. I just stood there with a smirk on my face until he realised he had to come and get me.
"Your an idiot." I laughed.
"Well at least I've not got my top on inside out." He said as we starting to walk.
"What?!" I shouted feeling for the label to see if it is. It's not. "I hate you."
"The correct term is I love you and I would die for your gorgeous looks." Foggy joked.
"Okay then." I laughed
"So any crime fighting tonight?" He asked, doing punches in front of him.
I just gave him the Are-You-Kidding-me look. "Do you want to say that any louder or at all." I said sarcastically.
"Alright alright calm down. Do you think that anyone would think of a blind teenage girl crime fighting at night?"  He stated.
"Easily." I replied.
"Your a pain in the ass just like your dad you know that?"
"Aw am I? Thanks." I said, putting my hand on my heart.
"Whatever." He smiled.

We arrived at my dad and Foggy's office. Karen, a blonde lady with insane blue eyes, was sitting at the desk in front of the door. Foggy greeted my dad and I did as well.
"Have you got any homework Mackenzie?" Matt asked.
"You are having a laugh, right? I didn't get any because they had no damn Braille books." I replied." Lucky."
"Did you not bring yours?"
"No."
"Well why didn't you bring any?"
"Because I didn't know!"
"Last night I told you to get ready for school tomorrow!"
"Guys me and Karen don't want to hear your father and daughter arguments right now, alright?" Foggy states. "Cool, now what have I missed?"
