Arden pt. 1

"Um, no, no questions... well, actually, yes. When do we start?

"Monday. This weekend you'll meet your experiences. I understand you both live together, but you must choose which one you wish to have."

Maggie slammed a hand on the counter and then raised her opposite arm, "I'll take the vampire!"

I heaved a sigh at Maggie's boisterous enthusiasm. I'd feel it eventually, but now that the job was in the bag, I needed sleep. Sleep, where I'd probably dream about my new hot employer macking on my best friend when I wanted it to be me. "I guess I'm getting a werewolf then."

James grinned and reached under the counter, handing me a piece of paper. His finger pointed to the word Arden at the top. "Her name is Arden Pastor. Garishly red hair, a persnickety attitude on a good day, and a clawed scar mark over her eye. Something she got before she was forcibly turned into a werewolf. Her shifter Alpha is Simon and he'll be overseeing your interactions with her for the three days of the full moon cycle. You can read more about it on the next page. She'll be at your apartment tomorrow to take you to meet her Alpha. He's a bit eccentric, doesn't like people much, so you'll have to do a bit of hiking but nothing out of the ordinary."

"Oh, goodie," I mumbled, "just what I wanted to do on my day off... exercise!" The disdain in my voice made Maggie chuckle and bump her shoulder against mine before smacking my ass. "Would you stop that?" I told her before turning my attention back to James. "Why can't this Alpha come to me?"

James frowned and suddenly looked very serious. "That's not how it's done, I'm afraid. Simon is old. Older than me, verging on ancient and..."

"I didn't know Shifters were immortal," Maggie interrupted.

"They aren't. They and Were's can live very long lives, but Simon is a shifter with mixed blood. He's part Fae and they are immortal. In most cases, mixed blood is not good, but Shifter and Fae blood seem to work well together."

"Hmm," Maggie said, tapping her lip, but it only had her attention for a minute more before she changed the topic. "Who's my vampire?"

A very slow, cat-ate-the-canary grin formed on James' face. He reached down, grabbed another paper like the one he'd given me, and handed it to Maggie, tapping his finger at the top.

"James," Maggie read from the paper. She gasped and her eyes widened. "You?"

Oh shit. How awkward was this gonna be?
