~1~
I woke up to sunlight seeping in through the window. It was morning. I got out of my bed and walked outside onto the beach and stared at the glistening ocean water. I watched the sunrise on the horizon. This was a beautiful island, indeed. It was my home. I have always wished to go beyond this island, but I couldn't. I used to know what was beyond, but it's only a dream, they said. None of it ever happened and I had lived there all my life. I had gotten amnesia and a mental disorder with a name I couldn't even pronounce. It was a mental disorder where you remembered a past that never happened and have unreal memories. Did I believe all of it? Yes. Yes, I did.
"Milliray!" Papa called to me. "Come and eat your breakfast!
"Yes, Papa!" I called back.
I hurried back to my home and ran inside. I was glad to come back inside since my feet were warm from the sand. We did not have shoes. My family had asked me what shoes were a while back. They did not approve of it when I explained to them my false memories. They said that it was a danger to health. It would damage our feet. I believed it. I believed everything my family told me. My father and mother were very wise. They knew everything about life and how to live. In fact they were the leaders of our small village. My father was the king and my mother was the queen. I was the princess.
My memories were fading, though, due to the healing potions used by the healers of our village. Almost all of my false memories were gone. I only could remember colors and bits and pieces of what I saw. I barely even remembered sounds. I was glad to forget all of these false memories because it was a sickness that needed to be treated and sickness brought disgrace to my family. It showed weakness. Weakness was not acceptable.
I was sixteen years old and my parents were going to let me meet the boy who I was arranged to marry when I reached the age of twenty-one. I was excited to meet him. My parents knew exactly who out of the village was just right for me. I would meet him later today. My parents said his name was Aqissiaq.
For some reason, I had a strange memory of my name being something else, but I can't remember what is was... Oh yeah! It was Marinette. Such a strange name to have... Milliray is much more normal.
(A/N: If your wondering how to pronounce the names, here are the pronunciations: Milliray: Mill-ee-ray. Aissiaq: Ah-kee-see-ahk These are actually real names by the way)
I sat down with my parents and ate breakfast.
"Milliray! I have forgotten my drink! It's over on the top shelf to the right next to the fruit basket. Would you be please go and retrieve it for me?" Mama asked.
"Yes, Mama," I replied, respectfully.
I went over to the top shelf and looked for Mama's drink. Wait. Was it left or right? Right. Yeah. It was right. It was next to the basket. But there are two cups. I looked inside both of them and decided that the one farther from the basket looked like Mama's drink. I took a sip of it to see how it tasted. It tasted really good. I brought it to Mama and sat back down and finished my breakfast.
I cleaned up my breakfast and ran out to the water. I loved to walk along the beach at the edge of the water. The water felt nice on my feet and the ocean breeze blowing through my hair made me feel free. Like I had no care in the world. But I knew that eventually I would have to come back to reality so I could meet my future husband, Aqissiaq.
When the time came to meet him, I was so excited. Mama dressed me up in my best dress and Papa put a pink flower in my hair, which was now braided.
I walked outside and saw him. And oh my gosh! He was handsome! His dark hair was combed nicely and his eyes... Oh his bright blue eyes! They reflected the sunlight and wow! They were gorgeous! He was gorgeous!
I talked with for hours and he was so sweet and kind and not like the other boys from the village who didn't respect women the way they should be respected. I was in love with him. My parents really do know who the perfect guy for me is.
But something didn't feel right. I felt like it was wrong for me to love him. I had no idea why. Then I had a remembered what happened two years ago that I had once forgotten about, but now it was so clear.
Two years ago:
I was standing on a bridge that went over a canyon and Alya was trying to get me to talk to my crush.
"Alya! You know I can't talk to him! I always stumble over my words! I can't even form a sentence when I'm around him!" I explained.
"Come on girl! You got this! You just need to be brave! You can do it!" Alya pushed me and I tripped in all my gracefulness, but strong arms caught me. I looked up to meet emerald green eyes. I blushed and Adrien smiled that wonderful smile that made me want to melt.
I stared at him for a few seconds, but it was actually a lot longer than that. Adrien gave me a confused look. "Are you alright?"
"What? Oh, y-yeah! O-okay I am! I mean, a-am I okay! I mean, I-I okay am! I mean, I-I am okay!" I stuttered. Ugh. Why me? Then there was a loud BOOM! I ran off to find a place to hide.
I opened my purse and Tikki flew out.
"Tikki, spots on!" I chanted and a bright pink light engulfed me and Marinette was no longer standing there, but my alter ego, Ladybug. I raced out to the scene and Chat Noir showed up a minute later.
"Why, hello, M'lady. I didn't expect to see you here," he said.
"Oh, heh, I came here fo- You know what? It doesn't matter. Let's go! We have to defeat this akuma!" I said.
"Alright!" Chat Noir shouted. "Let's defeat this villain!"
I looked around and tried to form a plan. We were on a bridge, so it was difficult to move around much. We told everyone who was on the bridge to get off of it. Now we had the whole bridge to work with.
"Lucky Charm!" I shouted.
"Cataclysm!" Chat Noir yelled.
We used our powers and eventually defeated the villain. I de-evilised the akuma and ran over to Chat Noir who was hanging off the bridge with one hand.
"Chat!" I shouted. The bridge was starting to break. I had to save him. I wasn't gonna let him go.
"Bugaboo. Let me go. If you save me, the bridge will break and you'll fall. It's okay," he said.
"N-no! I won't let you go! Please!" I protested.
"Get off the bridge," Chat Noir ordered.
"But..." I started.
"The bridge is gonna break," he warned.
"I..." I began.
"M'lady..." he said. I did as he said and moved off the bridge with tears in my eyes. Chat Noir got himself back on the bridge, but he wouldn't make it off. You could see in his eyes that he knew it was hopeless. The bridge broke. Chat Noir fell with it.
"No!" I sobbed. I ran to the edge and looked down. I didn't see him anywhere. I dropped to my knees and started crying into my hands. "It should've been me..."
My Miraculous beeped and I ran off, tears still streaming down my face. I found a place to hide and detransformed. Then I felt a sharp pain in the side of my neck and everything went black.
Back to the present:
Adrien. I was in love with Adrien. This wasn't my real family. This wasn't my real home. It was all a lie. I needed to find a way to escape this island. I needed to find Adrien. I also wanted to find Chat Noir, but I couldn't. He was gone forever.
I knew my goal: Get off the island and get back to my real family and my real home.
I live in Paris, France.
I am Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
