Disintegrate part 1

                                                                           *---Disintegrate---*

"It's been a month!" I whisper to Leah as I slide into the seat next to her. "And we haven't got any missions yet."

"Relax, you've just finished training." Jayce says in a low voice.

"Ew, get away from me." Leah looks up like she's just noticed I'm there. "Just because we're on some spy team doesn't mean you can sit next to me."

Disgusted, I get up and sit at the opposite corner of the room. The teacher clealrs her throat and begins the lesson. I sit, half listening half wondering when we're going to get our first mission. And then I hear it. The tiny buzzing of the eraser on my pencil. It's a steady beeping, and when I pull it out, it's flashing.

"Miss, I forgot my homework." Jayce says, raising his hand.

"Alright, Jayce, go and find it." The teacher sighs.

"Um... miss? I... have a nature lesson that I wanted to go on." Leah says.

"You prefer nature over music class?" She asks, confused. "Go on, then."

"And I... I... need to go there too." I say with a sick smile.

"You?!" She couldn't be more surprised. "You love music classes, Amber. I'm surprised, but go ahead."

"Think of your own excuse next time!" Leah says loftily as Jayce slides the pannel across and the thing beeps as it recognises his thumb print.

"I'm sorry, I thought the point was to get here as fast as possible." I step into the elevator and then hear the beeping sound. Then the floor drops out once again and I feel the wind rushing through my hair, and when I look down as the doors open, I"m back in black.

"I do wish they made a different colour spy uniform." Leah says grumpily. "Black just doesn't compliment me."

"That's not the only thing you have to worry about." Oscar says, spinning around in his chair to face us. "I have your very first mission together. Top scientist Edward Law has come up with something amazing - a disintegrater that's as small and thin as a pen, but can eat through any type of metal, glass or rock. Your job is to guard him. He makes his way to parliment in about an hour, and he's being picked up by MI9 in an hour, outside of Dawson. You're going down to meet him."

"This is huge!" Leah gasps. "Guarding someone!"

"You won't be the only one." Oscar says grimly. "The head of MI9 has decided to send her right hand man Agent James Kyle to guard him with a team of agents as well. And, next to that we have an army official by the name of General Steve Sparks and a few of his guards. Because this is your first mission they don't want you to..."

"Screw it up?" I offer sarcastically.

"Well... yes. Kyle still isn't convinced that younger agents really do make a difference. Team, I need you to protect Edward with your life."

"Gadgets?" Jayce asks excitedly. Even Leah perks up as Oscar brings out a box filled with things that look like ordinary, every day items."

"Yes. Spy-pods for everyone. These are your all time communicators, apart from your pencils of course. They can send and receive anything conceivable. Leah, so you can stay close to Edward, we're giving you the disguise of a reporter. You have your pencil communicator, but along with that I'm giving you a camera, that emmits a smoke screen. It will give you a chance to distract the enemy, should you be chased. Jayce and Amber, you'll need to scout the area and make sure no one is there. For that, I'm giving you both listening devices." He hands us what looks like a magnifying glass without the glass. "You can listen through a wall with that."

"Team," He eyes us with a sense of pride. "Be careful. I want you all back here in one piece after Edward has succesfully shared his invention with parliment. I want you all to keep in touch with me and each other with your communicatoors. Even if you don't think what you have to say is important, let us know. Good luck."

OUTSIDE DAWSON:

"Nervous?" Jayce swaps his position behind the tree.

"No." I stop fiddling with my communicator. "Maybe. Aren't you?"

"It's a big ask, but it's not like we're the only ones guarding him." Jayce stretches, then straightens up. "Here they are. Keep your eyes open for any movement."

"Team?" Leah's voice comes over faintly. "Hello?"

"Try holding the communicator up the right way." Jayce rolls his eyes.

"OH. Right. There looks like there might be some suspicious activity in the bushes next to you. I think that's where the enemies are hiding."

I look at the bushes, interested, and then Spark's voice comes over the radio. "Well done, team, you might have spotted something. There isn't any movement anywhere else. I want everyone on high alert! Agent Kyle, send your men to that bush immediately!"

"Are you sure that's a good id..." Kyle starts.

"NO QUESTIONS! The teen agents say they spotted something. The past ones have proved that they're valuable. MOVE!"

I see everyone charge the bush, and the next few minutes seem ot move in slow motion. There's about 20 men who jump on the bush, and then there's the screech of tires and the car with Edward roars off.

"Idiots!" Kyle jumps back out. "While we were ambushing a bush they've taken Edward!"

I look up in horror to see that he's right. Edward Law has completely disappeared, along with Leah.

Leah's POV

I reallly don't know what happened. One moment I was standing next to one of the most boring people in the universe, and the next moment there was a whole heap of shouting, every bodyguard left our side, and then someone shoved both me and Edward into the waiting car and screeched off. Now, as I bump around in the back, I have enough sense to strap myself in, and then to try and see whose driving. Before I can even get a good look, though, there's an evil chuckle from the front, a sort of screen goes up blocking my view, and some sort of gas comes out from it. I look over at Edward in panic before I start to see darkness.

Amber's POV

"Our first mission and we completely screwed! Leah's gone and Edward is too!" I say in a panic, dashing out from behind our tree.

"It wasn't our fault. It was those idiots who all rushed off at once to jump on an innocent bush." Jayce bends down beside the tire marks and runs something over it.

"What are you doing?" I ask, curious.

"I'm analysing the tire tracks. Oscar can run a match on these, and if any others are found that match it, we might have a hope of finding where they're going."

"Stupid kids!" I'm suddenly aware of the others, and look up to see both agent Kyle and the army officer Spark glaring at us. "Edward would have been safe if you hadn't interfered."

"We did nothing!" I fire back at him.

"Well I'll make sure of that. You're not to go anywhere but back to HQ until I can get a proper team to follow Edward." Spark says curtly. "Got that?"

"Team," Oscar's voice comes through my communicator. "The tire tracks were matched to ones not far from here."

"Are you giving us permission to override what Sparks said?" I ask in a low voice as their heated voices reach my ears.

"In any other case, of course not. But because both Edward and Leah plus your reputation is on the line, yes. I can't impress upon you the importance of this mission. You can't fail! I'm sending the coordinates of the place to your spy-pod."

"I've got them! We're on our way." I close down the communicator. "Let's go find them!"
