Time
As the days, weeks, and months go by little Allyson was starting to grow up. Everyday after training, John got fifteen minutes to Skype us. I'd always tell Allyson that the man right there was her daddy. One day on camera, tears were in his eyes. Ally put her hand up to the screen and said, "Dada." It was so precious to the both of us. Every night we would do this, until it was time to go to war. I wished him good luck, although my husband is a very strong man, he didn't need any. I didn't hear from him for months as expected.
One morning, a man came and knocked on our door. Allyson was almost three years old and ran into my room yelling. "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! There was a knock on the door!" I quickly put on my robe, covering up the silk night gown I was wearing and ran to the door. I opened it and there was a man in uniform. I put my hand over my mouth. "Oh god please tell me he isn't!"
The man looked at me and handed me a piece of paper then left without saying a word. I sat down on the couch with Allyson and opened the letter slowly. Reading the letter in my head, I held Allyson close to me, she couldn't read yet.
John Bison Moretti - soldier 0713 is M.I.A. affirmative by his commander Ivan S. Walters. A helicopter crash occurred over the border, no survivors found.
There was cemetery information at the bottom along with a signed note by the government with their sincerest apologies. I started crying uncontrollably, the little two year old worried about her mommy, looking at me with concern. How was I supposed to even tell her?
My husband was not dead! He just, he couldn't be. I wouldn't, I couldn't believe he was dead. I had a small bit of hope left that he was still coming back, he couldn't just leave me here alone forever. Allyson needs a father, I need a husband, we needed to be a family.
"Mommy, what's wrong? Why are you crying?" My precious little girl asked.
I didn't want to lie, but she was much too young to understand. "Nothing sweetheart, mommy just misses daddy, that's all."
It almost looked as if she understood, but then again, she hadn't seen her father in real life since she was practically a baby. I almost didn't know what to do anymore. I was so heartbroken inside of fear that he was truly gone.
Every night after that I cried even harder. I kept everything of his perfect, from his guitar to his nightstand with his wedding ring still laying there, not having put it on yet, the morning he was taken. Allyson and I had moved back to our old house in Florida, USA. Everyday just wishing he would come back to us, come back to me.
