Fleeing The Country
The very next morning as I had awoken from little Allyson crying, I turned on the news while sitting down on the couch to feed her. As I watched all of the accidents that have been reported and all of the criminal activity that has occurred, along with what the weather was going to be like, I heard the announcement that would change our lives forever.
A loud beep went off thrice to report that this was either an emergency or a very urgent message. "Attention America, today marks the official day of World War III. Every family with an eligible man or woman over the age of sixteen is now under government property and shall service our country for a four to eight year term period in the war. This is mandatory in order to save our country. One from each family is required unless you are older than fifty or are not physically or mentally incapable of handling the war at hand. What you need to do by the end of the week is report to your local police station, military base, or any of our government facilities so that we can fly you to a training center where you will begin training in a six month course. Anyone who does not turn themselves in for the duty now assigned to them will be taken out of home by force. We must win this war. America shall prevail. Thank you for your time, this is the end of this special report." I heard the television make the very loud beeping noise again as it then went back to the weather.
As soon as I heard the news, I knew right then and there that we would have to flee the country. Just as fear took over my mind and thoughts, my husband walked into the room with a look of pure worry, Quickly, he came and sat with me and our child. We both looked down at the newborn baby in my arms. "What are we going to do?" Those words were the last thing I heard before standing up, walking back into Allyson's bedroom, and placing her down into the crib. After leaning and kissing her on top of the head, I went straight to the master bedroom where my husband had already known exactly what I was thinking.
Together, the whole entire day my husband and I packed up everything we could into three heavy suit cases and four carry-ons. Well, one being a guitar case for my husband with his favorite guitar of the nine that we had. After making sure that Allyson was taken care of, fed, and dressed, we quickly took our luggage, and headed to the airport.
We got the first tickets to London we could find. I had always wanted to visit there. We flew to London the next morning around three o'clock in the morning, the only time they had available because just as we were, many others were trying to get away from having their family ripped apart.
We arrived in London a little after noon that very same day. London was a lot different then what I had always seen in the movies, but it nevertheless, a very safe place for my family at the moment and that is truly all I wanted. My family to be safe...and together.
Upon arriving that day, we found a place to stay for the time being. It was a little apartment with low rent and no contract, so we could leave whenever we wanted or needed to. I started to unpack a few things and I fed our little angel. We didn't really plan to stay in London for that long, just long enough for the government to stop looking for us. My husband doesn't like guns at all. I, on the other hand love them. I'm great in combat, but with little Ally just being born she needed a mother. We decided that if one of us had to go, my husband would be the one.
The days went on and six months later, we were traveling to Italy to stay with some of John's relatives. We stayed there for almost a year, until one morning we heard a knock on the door.
