She couldn't breathe
The lump in her throat grew
as if to close off her lungs
Silently, the invisible hand
suffocated
choked
left her gasping for air--

She couldn't slow
the rapid beating of her heart
Like a hammer
it pounded against her chest
until she was sure she was bleeding
from inside out

She couldn't silence
the senseless chatter
as it melded into
the roar of blood in her ear
The cacophony of her mind
drowning out the last bit of reason
until only chaos prevailed

She couldn't staunch
the beads of teardrops
as they rolled down her pallid
sweat-streaked skin
leaving trails of coldness in their wake
Her eyes bloodshot
behind tightly shut eyelids
as if to push away the world with-out

She couldn't she couldn't she couldn't-

She couldn't take it
anymore
Tired of being under control

Will she ever be freed
From the chains of her own mind?
