Sitting on the deck at dawn

Waiting for the show on lawn

Feeders stuffed with seeds and nuts

Waiting for a feathered fuss

Bread crumbs strewn as special treat

Flocks of sparrows spar and tweet

Peanuts hidden in the grass

Chipmunks hunting scamper past

Thistle feeder filled to top

Goldfinch flutter in perch swap

Sprinkled bird seed on the deck

Cooing softly gray doves peck

Bird feeder sways in a lurch

Small birds jockey for a perch

Squirrel stretched out upon tree limb

Longs for peanuts on deck rim

Blue jays call then swoop from trees

Wish I could fly with the breeze

Blue jay grabs a nut from rail

Cardinal hisses at his tail

Cries for food like spoiled king

Rabbit lopes across the yard

Long ears twitch to keep on guard

When striped chipmunk darts around

Bunny hops straight up and down
