Rainy Summer Day
My favorite summer day
Is sitting on the porch
Cloud blankets above lay
No way will my skin scorch
My arms feel damp and cool
Rain patters thought the leaves
Eyes capture flying jewels
Red birds zip by green trees
I give a little sigh
I do not feel alone
Blue jays fly down from high
And land near feeding zone
A chipmunk eating seeds
No way he wants to share
He jumps at jay in weeds
Throwing out a dare
Blue jay flies up to tree
And looks down from a branch
Chipmunk returns to seeds
While blue jay waits for chance
When chipmunk's back is turned
Blue jay swoops down and squawks
Acting as if he's burned
Or heard a soaring hawk
Chipmunk darts towards his house
And does not reappear
Blue jay is now alone
His triumph call I hear
