Fishing Tail
(Personal experience fishing with my father)
My fishing line scrolls out
I jerk and set the hook
I crank the reel and shout
Tonight fish we will cook
I watch a tail appear
Have I hooked the wrong end?
Tail quickly disappears
My cranking I suspend
Before I say a word
The line begins to tug
Story must be deferred
I crank; my shoulders shrug
I land a large mouth bass
Fish for dinner secured
Tell story? I may pass
Belief is not assured
The first fish had been snagged
A line loop caught his tail
No way he could be bagged
His weight ensured his bail
