Lyra's Past
Dear diary,
Breunor, the king, took me by such surprise. I admitted to him about being pregant, and told him how I was sort of a wild pixie. I was certain that he would judge me and leave me to the wolves. But he didn't! He's actually quite interested in knowing more about me and made it clear he would support me(rolled 17 for charisma). I owe him my backstory now, my life even. His hospitality is never going to be forgotten. My child has a home afterall. With that, I might as well get started on my past. I tell you how it goes!
Yours, Lyra Vinera (Nightal day 22)
Two figures were trending through a forest of oak trees, carrying 2 infants. Both had golden hair, fair skin, and beautiful blue eyes. "Lisen, take the boy to the far side of the grove and meet me back at the entrance of the forest line." The kalashtar spoke elegantly. Her face was very angular, well defined. Her eyes were blue and her hair was a dark brown. "Yes, Elise. What if someone catches us?" A green male genasi inquired, gazing at the woman. She was wearing a black robe with silver seams, as was he. Their hoods covered their faces. "Then we'll kill them. But no one bothers coming here anyways so we should be fine. Now hurry!" She snapped, glaring at him. He nodded, a strand of blond hair falling over his face. He was a light green color, a water genasi. He turned in his heel, his robe swaying behind him as he raced forward. Elise watched as the bush swallowed him. She looked down at the baby she was holding. Bright blue eyes, curly blonde hair, fair skin, light freckles. Elise grimaced. "Such a disgrace. I can't believe both of you were born. I wanted one child. A perfect child. And you ruined that, you and that dastardly boy. I have no interest in you or your brother. But you won't remember any of this, nor will you live long enough to even care." She laughed wickedly, inspecting her nails. "The cult wouldn't have accepted you anyways. But you two will be good sacrifices." She hisses, beginning to walk deeper into the forest. The sun cast dappled shadows on the forest floor, small animals running here and there. The baby girl cooed, moving her little chubby arms. "Shut up." Elise grunted, pinching the babie's arm. The baby began crying, wailing as Elise took her further and further into the woods. Elise looked up in frustration."By the gods, how was I so foolish to get pregnant." She sighed deeply, looking down at the baby and smiling."Shhh, there there, little. Baby." She said through gritted teeth, bouncing the baby. The baby quieted grabbing at Elise's robe. She smacked the babies hand away. Stopping, Elise glanced around. They were miles in the middle of a forest of absolutely nowhere. "Here is good." Elise nodded, satsified. She glared down at the baby, and let her arms go limp, the baby girl falling with a thud. There was a crack, and crying erupted from the baby, her face going red.
"Oops!" Elise giggled, clapping. She leaned over the baby, hands on her legs. "Aw, poor baby. I hope you die." She hissed, snapping her fingers and vanishing. A rush of cold hit Elise as she traveled back to the edge of the forest. Lisen was there, waiting for her. "Did you do it?" Elise asked, raising her eyebrow at him. His face was pale. He shook his head. "Lazy lump!" She snapped, cracking her hand across his cheek. He staggered back, putting a hand up to his cheek. His hands began to glow, and the red that colored his cheek faded. "No, Elise, you don't und-" Lise began, but was cut off by Elise. "Don't. As long as the brat is gone, we're fine. Let's go." Lisen nodded, and they did a chant. Blue and black mist swirled around them, their robes floating. And within seconds, they were gone, never to be seen again.
~Baby Lyra's POV~
Yelling. Flashes of a bright yellow. A golden, wavy river accompanied by blue pearls. Clouds of different shades of green hung above the child. Sharp pain in the arm, frustration. But the baby didn't know much of what was going on, nor did it care. She was hungry and needed a changing. The strange hooded woman didn't seem to care, and was going on and on about things the baby didn't and couldn't process. All she really felt where her senses and these two strings pulling on her, like a bond with something. One felt specific to a person, and the other felt like it would engulf her. Her connections to her twin brother and nature. All the sudden, the trees got taller and she seemed to be falling. On impact, she felt a snap in her mid back. She ceased to feel anything below the impact after that, but the situation had upset the baby anyways. She was confused once the woman left. Her crying calmed down, she looked around, cooing at creatures. She looked up and saw vines hanging above her. She reached a tiny hand above her, and the vine began to make it's way down to her. More and more vines slithered down to the baby, entangling themselves on her and lift her from the ground. The baby looked around and made a tiny noise as she was carried up into the branches of a great ancient oak tree.
The vines set her on an empty nest gently. One vine prodded the babies legs, but to no avail. She didn't react to the poking, or the pinching. The vines then wrapped themselves around the baby, creating a cocoon around the baby. The world became darker, and more green. She tried grabbing at the walls, making a confused cooing sound. The vines rocked the cocoon until the baby fell asleep. More vines wrapped themselves around her body, slithering down her limbs. As she baby slept, the vines went to work. A faint yellow glow peeked from the hole of the cocoon. The baby stayed in that cocoon for seasons, until she was 2-3 years old. The vines eventually unwound themselves, and revealed a toddler with longer golden curls and a peacefully sleeping baby. Bright sunlight hit the child's face, and she rubbed her eye, babbling. She looked around, and flexed her hands, grabbing for the vines. The vines held her hand and played with her. One slithered up cautiously to her leg, and pricked it. The toddler began crying, and the vines grabbed a leaf and covered the small wound with it. She could feel below her middle back again. From then on, the vines took care of her. The forest took care of her. The vines taught her to walk, the bears taught her to defend herself, the wolves taught her how to hunt. The lynx taught her to stalk, and the forest nymphs taught her magic and language. She stayed with the forest until she was 18. She left to find new adventures and to ingratiate herself into society. She ended up finding a group of clerics in the underdark, and they allowed her to join their group, if only because they pitied her. A party of adventurers hired her later to be their healer and reviver, but to their disappointment, she couldn't revive. The clerics accepted no refunds, and so Lyra joined the Gladiators of the Discarded. And for once in a long time, she felt at home.
