Tigerheart's Shadow
Okay so I JUST finished reading this one and also prepare for spoilers obviously
Okay so a lot of people have been saying that this book is awful and like...I honestly don't agree??? In all honesty this might be within my top five super editions, if not my favourite super edition((I'm deciding, but it honestly might!))Then again, a lot of people hated Skyclan's Destiny whilst I loved it, so maybe it's just my thing to like things everyone else dislikes.
Speaking of which, if you don't know already, this book does confirm and make canon that TigerDove is a thing, and honestly??? I've always shipped them so I'm down. I'm really glad Dovewing didn't settle for Bumblestripe.
My only gripe in the beginning is that it starts out a BIT slow, but that's also needed. Similar to Firestar's Quest only you don't have to read as much to get to the main action. I actually really like how it takes Tigerheart to have to take a journey to a foreign area for him to finally accept that he's ready to be a leader, that's a good plot point imo.
The journey to find Dovewing is done well too. I loved the side characters, Ajax, Fuzzball, and Rose, who help Tigerheart find his way to the city using the Silverpath((Train tracks)).
Also, Tigerheart's introduction to trains, or, as they call them, Thundersnakes, is hilarious and I love it. I kinda wish Fuzzball had gone with Tigerheart, as he was really cute and decently funny, but I'm alright with what we got.
My absolute favourite part of this book was the entire time Tigerheart was in the city, including the time he spent with the Guardian Cats. His introduction is pretty funny, with him arriving at the station, or the "Thundersnake Den" on accident after getting trapped in one, and his interaction with Dash is pretty nice, as Dash is a decent character and I liked the small almost side quest type mission he and Tigerheart went on to clear the dumpster, or "rot pile" of the strays, or in Tigerheart's tongue, rogues, who had taken over it.
Once Tigerheart arrives at the church, and meets Dovewing, everything slowly gets better. The Guardian Cats are amazing, I loved all of them, even the smaller characters. My favourites had to be Fierce, Cobweb, and Spire, definitely.
I actually find Tigerheart's insistance that the Guardian Cats live like Clan Cats a bit annoying, but you can also understand that, as he doesn't understand cats who live without borders like they do. And I love how averse he is at first to city-life, with them having to scavenge and walk among twolegs, but how he sorta gets used to it as they go on.
The conflict with Fog's group was interesting, as I honestly expected there to be a fight similar to the one in Skyclan's Destiny and Hawkwing's Journey with Stick and Dodge. But there wasn't! Tigerheart was being a bit quick to judge with Fog's group, as they later find out when they disrupt the Twolegs to the point where her brother, Streak, gets kidnapped by two legs when they leave traps in the church grounds, almost losing Pouncekit as well.
Oh, speaking of! Pouncekit, Shadowkit, and Lightkit are Dovewing and Tigerheart's kits! I know some people were mad at Shadowkit's name, but as Moonkitti stated, there really aren't any rules to this, with cats like Moonflower, Ambermoon, and Windflight having existed despite the rules. So there's no point in getting annoyed by it anymore.
For anyone who wants to know, Shadowkit is a grey tom with black stripes, Pouncekit is a grey she-cat, and Lightkit is a brown tabby she-cat, and is basically the next Tigerstar clone, only female this time.
Shadowkit from the start is obviously a medicine cat, and he better become one Erins. Give poor Puddleshine some help.
I honestly love how Tigerheart and Dovewing are written in this book. They're so cute.
There really aren't any big battles involving cats in this book. It's just foxes and injuries from environment/animal problems.
The journey back made me sorta sad. I'm gonna miss the city, it was a fun environment for the cats to explore. It reminded me of my favorite Disney movie, Oliver and Company.
Ant, Spire, Cinnamon, and Blaze went back with the others, and I REALLY wish Fierce went with them, since I really liked her, but I'll take what I can get. They also found Berryheart and Sparrowtail, Needletail's parents, plus Rippletail and Cloverfoot, Berryheart's siblings. They ran off and escaped from Darktail, and I always liked Berryheart's name so I'm glad to see them.
Sadly, Spire did die on the way back whilst saving Pouncekit from a folding bridge, but I'm glad he got a warrior name afterward, Spiresight.
Berryheart happened to have kits too, and named them Hollowkit, Sunkit, and Spirekit, and I'm excited to see what happens to Spirekit.
I know what made people the most angry was how Tigerheart died and came back to life, but to be honest it's Warriors, we have reincarnation and cats with powers, so I don't really see why people are so pressed. It was an honestly sad scene, and watching Dovewing try to push him back to the Clans desperately only to fail was SO S A D. The kits reactions made it w o r s e oh lord.
Tigerheart is now Tigerstar and yeah unfortunately we'll have to deal with that but in all honesty, the end scene where they meet up with all of Shadowclan was so good. They addressed the new cats and Dovewing and Tigerheart's realtionship and UGH IT WAS GOOD. I know that River of Fire is gonna cover their return so I'm really excited to see the reaction from the other clans.
So overall, this book was GREAT. I think people might just dislike it because of the TigerDove thing being canon, but I shipped it so it's fine with me lmao.
Really hoping that Bumblestripe won't pull an Ashfur tho
Don't do that
