Chapter Thirty Eight | Change
Her twin brother had the sharpest of minds. Through trial and error he figured out how to build a home from the materials on the island that could withstand the storms. The strength they had all obtained from that night allowed him the luxury to build things by himself. He only bothered Micah and Rafael when he needed more than two hands.
Angelina sat in the shade, watching Rafael work on his next project. He wants to build a boat. So far, only 3 of them had sunk when he attempted to go fishing in the ocean and each time he swam back to the island. It wasn't necessary to fish anymore since they had their wolf side to hunt for meat if they craved it.
Currently, he was tinkering at his latest boat that hadn't sunk this past week—or was it months? Angelina never bothered to keep track of time since there was no point. She could barely remember her age but as long as she felt young, she was young.
"It's already a boat that works, why do you keep working on it?" Angelina asked Theron. She picked up a sharpened piece of wood which she used to peel herself some fruit.
"Just because it works, doesn't mean it's perfect. I need to improve it," Theron replied, not looking up from his masterpiece.
Angelina rolled her eyes at her brothers obsessive nature. Today it was a boat, maybe tomorrow a bridge.
"Don't roll your eyes at me Angie." He hadn't looked up from his work but he knew his twin sister better than he knew himself.
"Who's Angie?" She rolled her eyes again at the annoying nickname Theron had given her. She had originally wanted to annoy Theron but he had turned the tables on her. So she decided to leave and find what one of her other old brothers were up to.
Unbeknownst to Angelina, Theron was working on the boat to make one sturdy enough to get them back to the main land. The brothers had been plotting behind her back and only decided to tell her at the last minute.
"Why do we need to go to the main land? There's nothing there for us," Angelina argued.
"There's a whole world out there, we don't have to stay here anymore. Father is definitely long dead so there are no threats," Micah explained, calmly.
"This is my home. I don't want to go," Angelina complained, ignoring Micah.
"Either you come with us or you stay here alone," Rafael said, with ultimatum. Angelina didn't want her brothers to leave her alone and she didn't want to leave her home. She knew Rafael would go through with his words. More often than not, he had mentioned that she was capable of living on the island alone.
Reluctantly, Angelina joined her brothers on that boat. She made sure to sulk the whole way and if the wave so much a rocked the boat in the wrong direction, she sighed and grumbled. Theron rowed them to the mainland without assistance despite Micah and Rafael trying to take over.
"This is a new beginning," Theron commented as they got closer to land.
"Something new, doesn't necessarily mean it will be good," Angelina replied. The last new beginning had been good. They had freedom, they had each other and they had good life's There was no reason to start again, in her opinion. If only one of her brothers had seen from her point of view.
The closer they got to land, the more apparent it became that much had changed and a lot of time had passed. Rafael and Micah disappeared to steal clothes for them to blend in while Theron found a good place to keep his boat. Angelina decided she rather stay with Theron than venture anywhere.
The world was louder than she remembered. She found herself irritated by the multitude of noises. What was worse was the smell. It was potent enough to knock out a elephant. This was the worse decision her brothers had ever forced her into. The island was peaceful and didn't smell like shit.
Rafael and Micah returned dressed in similar outfits to all the other humans. Bundled in their hands were many layers for Angelina alone. The journey on the main land began and the home left in the distance.
Restricted.
Disgusted.
Disturbed.
Angelina put on the dress. The change between cities and dresses moved quickly. The time moving just and equally. Every time she found herself a little settled down, it was time to leave.
The lack of aging was always an issue. The other being the numerous amount of men trying to propose to Angelina. Well propose was putting it politely. Sometimes there were animal killings that all mysteriously started when they moved into town. That didn't stop her brother. Her brother concentrated on hoarding riches, inventing and learning more. While Angelina felt like a loose end who followed them along. The one thought that often came to mind was, did she do the right thing by leaving the island?
It was the only true home they ever had. There moves were hazardous and many times without warning. It was a good think that Angelina didn't care about the material things because the amount of ribbons, jewellery and trinkets she had lost of the years started to blend together.
Life itself became blurry.
Her brother had goals and aspirations. All she had was hope but her hope had ran dry and she was just stuck packing again for another move. She wasn't built for this life, no matter how many luxuries her brother brought for her everyday. The might as well be nothing.
She craved total freedom that she struggled to get in the human society. So many rules and none that she cared for.
Angelina just wanted a home, and everything to stop blurring.
It wasn't until one faithful move that things stopped blurring. It wasn't until she met him. That's when the world stopped spinning.
