Lydia- The Pet Communicator

Chapter 35

Drake took the wild animals to the ‘Animal Peace’ and asked the Veterinarians to check their health whereas, he would go and look for a better place for their settlement, somewhere deep in the jungles, where they can be free and safe from the torments.

Our shelter was almost done. It didn’t have much work to do, as there were no rooms or cages to be made. So hopefully, Drake would be back anytime soon with my lovely pets, plus they might have some new fellows joining them in a few days.

A lot of people contacted me after knowing my communications skills with the animals, some asked me to find out their pet’s wish list, others asked me to find out their pet’s problems and other asked me to keep them with me in the shelter for their secured future.

Antonio wanted me to make Clara confess that she had a big hand in burning the shelter down, while he records everything, standing behind my bedroom doors. By doing that, he could easily send Clara to jail and have the case closed.

Now the plan, I asked Clara to visit me when no one was home. If she turned up on the exact time, I would give bail for Ricky and her father too without hesitation. I even got her missing earring with me.

As I thought, Clara came home exactly on the given time. She was acting like a bitch with no brains, her attitude or her way of talking to me was devilishly changed. I never knew my best friend of childhood would ever show such face to me.

I gave a smart sign to Antonio when Clara arrived, so he hid behind the doors in my room. He brought two other undercover officers with him, who were acting as if they were the shelter’s constructors.

I opened the main door, and asked Clara to follow me to my bedroom. She did whatever I said.

“Clara, are these yours?”  I asked her, while showing her the earring. She tried to snatch them from my hand, but I closed my fist quickly.

“Uh-huh! You will get them if you answer my simple questions.”

Her left eye twitched and she curved her lips egoistically, while folding arms over her chest.

“Why did you burn my shelter Clara? What did you get?”

She wasn’t replying and I couldn’t let our plan go as a waste right now.

“I won’t give bail for Ricky and your father, if you won’t reply me. Oh! You won’t even get the earring, which is from Ricky, I guess?”

She opened her mouth to reply, and closed it again.

“I thought you were my best friend, I cared a lot for you. Everyone whom I loved broke my trust, except my father. Why?  Where did I go wrong? If you would ask me once, I might have given you everything Clara!”

Clara started crying bit by bit, and then tears flooded down her cheek. She cried out loudly finally and spoke, “I had a crush on Ricky, since he joined our school but you got him started a relationship with him. My father had a lower post then your father in the same company, it bothered me too. You always scored well and every teacher loved you in school. I was jealous all the time, until you met with that accident.”

I tapped my feet, waiting for her to speak up more. I was amazed with her confessions.

“I didn’t want you to go into coma or die, but by chance, my life changed. I tried to make Ricky’s mines when you got into coma. I got more attention of teacher and students after your accident. My father’s post never changed but still, your dad got kicked out once without his fault. His reputation got spoilt after all!”

She smirked evilly and I slapped hard on her pretty face.

“What did you get by hurting me, huh Clara? Your father is in jail because of stealing money, and my father gets double the pay! I got someone better than the Ricky and that’s Drake! Next? I am gifted, so people love me more!”

“Yes! True, and that’s why I put your shelter on fire! I wanted to hurt you deep inside your heart, just the way I felt. But, your stupid animals got saved because they were not inside the shelter. We did the whole planning from outside the house, so that the dogs won’t bark or tell you anything, as they smell danger!”

I slapped her again, this time twice on both of her cheeks and she grabbed my neck, almost choking me to death.

Antonio came to my rescue. He grasped Clara’s hands and handcuffed her from the behind. She tried escaping from our hold by using her legs to injure us, but she failed as the other officers joined us too in no time.

I clapped my hands in joy as the officers took her away with them. Antonio pulled me into a tight hug, and called my father to come back home since, the mission is accomplished. My father and mother were waiting for us at the police department. Antonio left after them.

 I sat on my bed for some relaxation. Just then, I heard a beep of a vehicle. I quickly looked out of my bedroom’s window where I could see the front lane. Drake was back with my pets from the hospital, in their private truck. I jumped up and down in excitement and rushed down to receive them.

As Drake and the nurse opened the back of truck, my pets ran out of it impatiently and they leaped on me with happiness. It showed how much they missed me.

“Garcon (dog), Jena (cat), Bruno (dog), Tida (rabbit), Marwa (horse), Darcy(rabbit), Gab (dog) and  Luke (cat) It’s so good to see you again!” I chirped, and ran my hand over each animal’s face with love. Every animal tried to show me affection in their style. It was so peaceful to have them back.

“Okay guys, hurry to your new shelter! It’s a gift from Drake!” All the pets hurried to the shelter all together, Drake paid the nurse and we followed behind them.

“Wow! The shelter is much bigger and open this time! I just miss the two rabbits and Lucky. They would also be so happy like us.” Marwa neighed.

I caressed Marwa’s face and lead her to the shade. She nudged her face on Drake’s back, who was walking ahead of her. The dogs followed us and barked happily, “This is huge! I bet some other animals are going to join us too. It will be so much fun!”

“Yeah maybe, as some people already contacted me to keep their pets. We got a lot of people sponsoring us too. You all will live in a much better way now.”

The dogs barked again, “We are always happy, even if we got a small space, because we got owners like you.” Then, the dogs ran to Drake and started licking him all over. He looked disgusted, but he didn’t react since he knew the dogs were actually thanking him for the shelter.

The one and only remaining rabbit Tida, was very silent at present. I could understand they way she felt after losing her two very close friends in the fire. So, I took her in my arms and ran my hands wholly on her for the warmth and love she needed.

After all my pets took their own new places, my father and mother entered the backyard. They were actually holding hands, which showed that everything was fine between them. When my eyes fell on their hands, my father immediately spoke, “Lydia, your mother will be staying with us. Try to forgive her, because she is sorry from the bottom of her heart and she has learnt her lesson.”

“Dad, how can I? Did you forget how much she hurt you?”

“If God can forgive us, so why can’t we do it Lydia? Are we greater than him in any way?”

I sighed out loud, “Fine! I will try!” I walked away angrily.

My mother followed up behind me. She grabbed my arm and pulled me into a tight hug. She started crying and begging me for forgiveness. I didn’t hold her back when she hugged me. I was confused on what to react like, should I hug her back and forgive her?

I thought a lot and hugged her finally. She kissed me all over my face after realizing that I have actually accepted her apology.

I had forgiven her as she helped us out in making the case easier, and she came back in our life leaving everything behind. I could see the honesty in her eyes this time, and now things were resolved in my life, so I needed to move on happily.

I was with my pets in their new shelter, I gave my exams successfully, the case was also over and all the culprits were thrown behind the bars, people got to know about my gift of animal communication, and Drake had been with me in my every step like a guardian angel.

What else do I need? Oh! I still have to wait for my results which will be out in some months.  Will I actually get the seats for the veterinarian studies in Cambridge University?
