Chapter 27
Lydia- The Pet Communicator
Chapter 27
We all had our food silently, since we did too much of the talking and we were very hungry. The food was really luscious except, it got slightly cold. Chinese food wasn't that bad as I thought.
“Drake, why don’t you move in with us after Lydia’s exams?” My father asked kindheartedly, while chewing his Chow Mein.
“It’s not good to stay at my girlfriend’s place, right? She has to move in with me sooner, although my flat is smaller compared to your house.” Drake winked at me after joking, and shifted his glance to my father.
“Your heart is big, right Drake? That’s what matters.” I spoke immediately, while rolling my eyes at him.
My father cleared his throat and blurted, “All I know is I am not sending Lydia anywhere far from me. I can’t live without my daughter. So sorry Drake, you have to move in with us.” Drake’s facial expressions changed suddenly into disappointment. I could see the color of his face draining. When my father noticed it as well, he immediately changed the topic.
“Anyway, you have only two more days left for exams. Are you all ready Drake and Lydia?”
“Yes daddy, Drake has worked hard with me since day one. Even if I don’t study in these two remaining days, it won’t matter. I am totally ready.” Drake gave me a wonderful big smile, after hearing the response I gave. Then Drake stood up to pay our bills, however my father grabbed his arm right away to stop him from paying for the lunch.
“Who is the elder here?” My father furrowed his eyebrows at Drake.
“Of course, you sir. I am just giving both of you a treat.”
“I should give you a treat Drake. You’ve helped my daughter a lot. Go and sit in the car both of you. I will be right back.” My father demanded, at the same time as giving Drake the car keys. I held Drake’s hand, and pulled him out of the restaurant before he disagreed with it. Drake glared at me in discontent as we walked out.
“Drake, let him pay. He will get really mad at us, like the day you paid my admission fees. Remember? So, please let it be?” I looked at him making a cute puppy face. Drake gave out a loud sigh and accepted it, with a slight nod.
As soon as we jumped into the car, Drake pulled me closer to him, he looked straight into my eyes and held up my chin to kiss me. Drake looked really adorable. When we were about to kiss, my father opened the car and shouted, “Hey kids! Want some ice cream?”
Because of getting scared, I banged my head with the window as I tried to pull apart from Drake. I shrieked, “No dad! Let’s go home. Phew!” Drake chuckled at my turn of expression.
When driving back home, I couldn’t think about anything, except my pets. I didn’t like to keep them on their own. What if someone tried to hurt them? Or something went wrong? I couldn't even give a call to check up on them.
At the shelter:
“Hey guys, I got an idea. Let’s have some fun today! We have always been the obedient pets and we never tried to escape right? Though, it was very easy for us. So, let’s scare Lydia today by hiding around here, in the shelter only. I can break the fence into pieces with my horse power and all dogs can help me out by pushing it open too. Who’s with my idea?” Marwa encouraged the pets with self-assurance.
“No, it’s not a good idea! She has a lot of stress already Marwa. I won’t help you in this.” Garcon responded.
“It won’t be that bad, I promise. Let’s have some fun today?” Marwa pleaded.
“Yeah Garcon, we can play tricks with Lydia. We won’t hurt her and we know her better than you!” Luke spoke after Marwa.
“Yeah, we love her a lot. We all should hide as they will be here anytime soon. Hurry guys!” The rabbits rumbled.
“What if some bird at a tree told her everything? Our plan will fail and we are all dead then!” One of the cats murmured.
“No, nothing will happen. Even the birds won’t see us. Now hide, quickly! Once we break the fence open, the rabbits hide under the bush, the cats will go under the bench, the dogs behind the trees and I? I am so tall! Okay, I will hide behind the shelter’s wall.”
Marwa P.O.V
I used all my strength to break the fence and the dogs pushed me from behind. We successfully broke the fence and got released.
After seeing all my friends run to hide where I insisted, I hid behind the shelter’s wall.
Soon, we heard a vehicle stop outside. It looks like Lydia is here.
I just hope my fellows don’t spoil my plan. They are supportive, but stupid too.
* * * * * *
As we reached home, I got out of the car and went to check the shelter right away. Drake and my father went inside the house to get freshened up. However, they decided to join me in a little while. I walked to the shelter with a big smile on my face. I really missed all my sweet little pets. They are the best thing that ever happened to me.
Holy sh**! What the hell happened here? I thought, when I saw the fence of the shelter was broken into pieces and all the pets missing. My head started throbbing severely, and my body became all wobbly. My vision began to blur too. I walked closer to the shelter and picked up the broken parts of the fence with distress . Only then, I heard an unusual sound.
Prrrtt. Prrrtt.
“Hey Luke, stop farting! She will hear us.”
Prrrtt. Prrtt..
“Something is wrong with my stomach Jena.”
What’s this noise? I can hear the cats purring somewhere very slow and why is the bush moving?
“Ouch! Stop pushing me you brainless rabbit!”
“You are sitting on me, move Tida.”
“Shut up you both! Lydia is coming over here.”
I blinked closely to clear my vision, and then strolled over to the bush. As I bent down to check under, I saw my three rabbits fighting. I pulled them out one by one and ran my hands over them with love.
“Are you guys okay? Why under the bush? Where are rests of your fellows?” I asked immediately.
They rabbits looked at me innocently with no response, but something was certainly fishy. If the other pets were in danger, the rabbits would have informed me immediately.
“Are you guys playing a game with me? I got so scared!”
Prrttt. Prrtt.
I heard this sound again from under the bench.
I left the rabbits and crawled all the way to the bench, because it was not far from the bush. There, I saw my two noisy cats.
Prrt.
“Ewww, what’s up Luke? It seems you are in a mood of farting, huh? Thanks for the clues! But, the game was really bad. I could have fainted right here.”
“Sorry Lydia for scaring you. It was not our plan. Marwa told us…”
“Shut up Luke!” Jena purred.
Prrttt.. Prrttt..
“Now where are the dogs and Marwa?” I asked them pleasantly.
All of them were noiseless and still. I knew the mastermind of this plan was my dearest horsey, Marwa. Therefore, I decided to continue the game with the help of my present pets. “Guys, I will scare Marwa and the dogs now. Can you please tell me where are they?” I whispered, as I gathered them all together with my hands.
“Marwa is behind the shelter and each dog is hiding behind those trees.” Luke blurted out quickly. I could see Marwa’s black tail swinging at the end of the shelter’s wall and the dogs were still calm. I decided to scare Marwa from behind first, and then I would catch the dogs. I kept a finger on my lips to hush the pets around me, as I crept slowly towards the haven. Marwa was standing there quietly, so I pulled her tail to scare her. Marwa turned around furiously, while neighing out loud and she was about to kick me in fright.
“Stop! It’s me!” I yelled, before I get injured.
“Lydia, you could get hurt, I am so sorry. By the way, who told you I am here?” Marwa grunted frustratingly.
“No one, I could see your tail swinging. Your plan failed.” I laughed out loud.
Suddenly, I felt some pulls on my long skirt, as I turned to look back, the dogs leaped upon on me, and I fell directly over the ground. The dogs, including Garcon started licking me all over my face. It was hard to push them away. My whole face was soaked with their saliva and it tickled me a lot.
“Now, this is a strong team!” Marwa neighed loudly.
Drake and my father came to the backyard in no time. When they saw the dogs attacking me, they hurried to rescue me. Instead of crying for help, I was laughing out loudly. This terrified my father and Drake.
Drake chased the dogs away and my father gave out his hand for me to stand up, whereas Drake was circling his glance around the broken home. Both looked at me confused and I smiled ingenuously, to assure them that everything is fine.
