A Call From an Old Friend

Barry, Iris and Lydia had just finished watching the new zombie movie.

They walked out of theatre, intertwined like a human chain, Iris in the middle who was complaining about the movie, "Regular movie scale, that was a seven or an eight. Zombie movie scale, it was, like, a four, tops." Obviously she wasn't impressed with the movie.

"There's a zombie movie scale?" Lydia asked.

Barry excitedly looked at both girls,"Did you know that zombies exist in nature? There's a species of fungi

Lydia interrupted him knowing exactly what he was talking about,"-that infects ants causing the ants to attack plants that-"

"-can release spores which in turn infect new hosts. We're going full nerd again, aren't we?" Barry finished off the fact for her. This was the 15th time tonight Barry and Lydia finished off each others random facts.

"Yep. Yeah. Yeah. It's okay though. You two are still the cutest nerds that I know." Iris enjoyed that the two closest people to her got along. Just like how she predicated weeks ago.

"Anyways, I'm a lot more interested in the amazing as of late." Iris continued on.

Lydia looked towards Barry noticing the frown etched on his face, "You mean 'cause of this streak thing?" She also couldn't help notice the slight pitch in his tone.

Iris turned to them, "He's out there.
People are talking about him."

"How do you even know he's a he? Maybe it's a she?" Lydia asked

"It's a man, okay? You know I am really intuitive about this kind of stuff."

"Someone even posted a picture after being yanked from a car accident. It's a red blur leaving the scene. Here, what do you see?" She said while holding up her phone to show the pair.

They both looked at the her phone screen, only to see Eddie's names across the screen, "I see your boyfriend's calling."

Iris looked confused and her phone screen, "Oh, I should probably get this. I'm crashing at his place tonight, and he's supposed to leave a key for me somewhere." she walked further from the them to get to a quieter place.

"Hey, babe. What's up? Not much, just hanging out with Barry and Lydia.
You off yet?"

Lydia turned to Barry, "Do you wanna keep talking about the rare ant-infecting fungus?"

Barry laughed at her while nodding, "Yeah, so did you know Ophiocordyceps unilateralis is an entomopathogen, or insect-pathogenising-" he was caught off by the sound of his phone going off.

"Sorry." He silenced his phone and went to go back to talking to Lydia.

"An-" but was quickly silenced by his phone ringing again.

"Answer it. This can wait."

He silently apologized,"Hello."

"Public indecency? Dog leash violation? Okay"

He turned around and looked at Lydia. "Hey I think forgot my wallet in the theatre, I'll be right back." he said with an urgency in his voice.

"I'll come with you." Lydia went to go with him but he put in hand up, stopping her.

"No. Stay here. It'll take second." he said backing up into the theatre, his hands still in air, as a silent cue to tell her to stay put.

Lydia found the situation weird but decided not to pursue it now. She turned back to see if Iris was off her phone but she was still on the phone with Eddie. She felt a gust of wind behind her and turned around to see Barry.

"Did you get your wallet?" Lydia asked skeptically.

He looked a little frazzled, "Yeah--It was just in my pocket," he assured her.

She eyed him and he didn't meet her gaze. He kept his eyes front on Iris who was walking back, "You don't have a mat. Do you have a planter? Key's in the mailbox. I'll see you later. Bye." Lydia heard Iris' voice but still stared at Barry.

"Eddie says hi, Barry" she said walking up to the pair, Lydia turning the attention to her.

"That's nice of him to include me." Lydia snarked back.

"You guys wanna grab a bite? I'm feeling a little famished?" Barry asked

"After the Mongolian barbecue we had before the movie and the extra large popcorn you had at the movie? How are you not fat?"

"I've been jogging." he replied lamely

"I'm gonna need to buy bigger pants at this rate, Barry." Lydia sassed, walking in front of the two and they just laughed at the strawberry blonde's comment.

......................... ............................

One of the perks of being your own boss is choosing your days off and that's exactly what Lydia did today.

She took the day off deciding she needed a "me" day. Taking this opportunity she let her more creative side out and began to paint.

She squinted at the painting, tilting her head to see if she make out the lame attempt of a skyline, but had no such luck. It just looked like a blob of blue and off shades of white. Messing up on her fifth canvas, she decided watching a movie would be more relaxing. She put away all her supplies and washed off the paint that covered her hands and even some that managed to get into her hair. She made herself some popcorn and settled on the couch, just as she was about to begin the movie, her phone rang out, the name Stiles flashed across the screen, contrasting the dark ambiance of the room.

She leaned forward to the coffee table setting down the bowl of popcorn, "Hey, Stiles! It's been a while since you're last call."

She heard him sigh across the phone, "Sorry about that. I've been busy lately."

"Too busy to call your favorite person?" she mused on.

"Haha. No but I have some exciting news. Technically I'm not supposed to tell anyone this..thinking about it I can get in a lot of trouble.....but it's not like they are listening into my phone calls... but maybe they are-" his blabbering went off for awhile.

"I'm gonna hang up now"

"No! But then again maybe I shouldn't tell you. I already told my dad and Scott that's already too many peop--"

"Stiles" Lydia warned again.

"Sorry am I rambling again? I'm rambling. Okay, guess who just got accepted into Quantico?!"

"Oh my god, Stiles! Congrats! That's amazing"

"I was so worried I didn't get in. I tanked my interview but I think Scott's dad called in a favour but I don't care. I got in"

"When do you start?"

"In a month. Can you believe it in a couple months you're going to be looking at a FBI agent."

"What I can't believe is that they are gonna trust you with a gun," Lydia joked.

"Very funny," Stiles said unimpressed.

"So how is Scott doing?" she said as a lame attempt to continue the conversation. It's not like she could straightforwardly ask him for something that would spark a red flag in his mind. Undeniably causing him to come to her aid.

"Well...he has 3 years of school left so that's good, maybe 4. You know school was never his thing."

"How about Liam and Malia?"

He paused before answering, "You know you could call them, right?

"Why? When I have you to tell me." It's not that Lydia didn't want to talk with them. It's just that after she left, she only stayed in contact with Stiles and Scott, mostly Stiles.

She heard him sigh before answering, "I haven't talked to Malia in months, but last I heard of her she was with Peter and Derek investigating a place, Mystic falls, Virginia. Apparently they have a supernatural problem. And little Liam is starting his second year of college."

"That's good.".

"Yep."

She couldn't deny the awkward interaction they were having and mustered the courage to ask him what she really wanted, "Yeah, okay so I'm just gonna say it, I wondering if you had the bestiary."

"Why?"

"Um..no reason. Just want something to read."

"Lydia," his voice going down an octave or two.

"Okay. Well I may or may not have a supernatural problem in my city. Probably not a supernatural problem. I just want to make sure."

"What makes you say that?"

She didn't know how to make her theory sound less crazy, so she just told him what was going on, "I have this friend Barry and I'm 90% sure he has the capability of superhuman speed. And I looked online to see any supernatural creatures with speed and all I could find were werewolves, vampires and wendigos. I just need the book to confirm I'm not going crazy."

"Do you need me to come up there? I can catch the next plane there."

"No. Stiles I'm fine. Even if he is indeed a supernatural creature he hasn't hurt anyone. Rather the opposite. He's become rather a vigilante."

"You guys have your own Batman?!?"

"You could say that."

"Lydia, all jokes aside, if you need anything, anything at all, don't hesitate to call me. I'll be there fast as humanly possible to be by your side."

"Thank you, Stiles---Okay now tell me how you got into the academy, because that's still mind blowing."

"Okay, I'll spill my dirty details to you"
