“It wasn’t my fault.”
Another voice muttered back. My head was foggy so I could only make out a few words here and there.
“I’ll deal... With me.” Someone gave a huff or a sigh, followed by heavy footsteps walking away from me.
I tried to open my eyes but the light hurt too much. “Ah, ow,” I complained then rolled over to bury my head into something soft, assuming it was a pillow.
“Well you made a complete fool of yourself didn’t you?”
Were they talking to me? “Huh?”
The bed I was lying on dipped by my hip. “Don’t ‘huh’ me, you got me into this mess.”
I tried to defend myself, now I knew it was Ryan by his voice. I flicked my head up and opened my eyes, stinging ripping through my head from the sudden movement and light. “Me?! You dragged me along! Eeep!”
His hand gripped my cheeks , his palm across my mouth, as he growled at me. His nose just two inches from mine. “Don’t answer me back either!” he snarled then let me go and got off the bed. “I’ll see you later. You should get something to eat.” Before I could make any other kind of remark, he left.
Whatever that had been about, it would have to wait. At the mention of eating I suddenly felt hungry. My hip felt sore which I knew meant I’d be limping at least for today. I checked myself over as best I could before heading out my room, gritting my teeth behind closed lips as I adjusted to the thumping in my hip.

Eventually reaching the kitchen, I headed over to one of the cooks. Carla was a Phi ranked wolf, they have different duties but nothing definitive, she seemed to be preparing a stew at one of the stoves while her mate, Jeff was by another. On scenting me enter, she looked over and tried to subtly roll her eyes. “What are you doing here?”
I paused then lowered my head before stepping over. “Ryan told me to get something to eat.”
She shifted on her feet and pointed at the large fridge. “Help yourself but not to the fruit, that’s for tomorrow.”
“Why? What’s...?” I paused and remember then pulled a face. “Uh, so... do you need a hand with anything?” I thought I’d offer my assistance rather than be ordered to do something.
“Nope, I don’t think Jeff would want you in the way when he’s got a few hundred wolves to prepare food for. Go and bother someone else.”
I quickly rummaged in the fridge, grabbing some cheese and cold meats. As I left the kitchen, I grabbed half a loaf of bread on my way out before they could call me back.

Finding a quiet spot on one of the terraces, I munched and nibbled my way through my lunch. Hoping to have a quiet hour or two to myself, I relaxed against the cold stone wall as I sat on the ground. The coldness seemed to help the aching in my hip. About twenty minutes later, I heard a door open inside the small lounge and two people giggling together, I silently twisted my neck to peer over the window sill and saw some mid-ranked female with her mate. They were enveloped in each others arms and kissing over and over, he gently pushed her up against the wall and kissed down her neck as his hands wandered down to her hips. I turned away and hid myself. Great, now I was stuck here until they finished. The room made their moaning echo and penetrate through the window next to my head.
“Uhhhh! Kev!” she moaned over and over. His moans were muffled. I lost track of time, I just waited for them to be done. Her moans became almost howl-like as she reached her orgasm, he muttered something in her ear. A shuffle of feet and a slam of the door told me they had left, I peeked through the window to make sure before getting up and brushing any crumbs off my lap. Waiting a couple more minutes, I eventually headed back inside and into the hallway, passing through the room they’d just had sex in.

“KIDA!”
Shit. I froze, rolled my eyes to myself then turned around. “Me?”
He came right up to me, personal space forgotten. “Yes, you.” He paused to take a breath. “You’re wanted.”
That meant I had been summoned, by someone high up the ranks. I caught myself before I let out a huff. “After you then.”
Gamma Alex led me down the hallway and all the way down through the mansion towards the main hall. The one part of the castle I despised being in, I didn’t belong down here nor was I ever welcomed when I did have to venture this way.
In the hall were our Alphas, Adam and Ryan and a couple of the Gammas who had been on the hunt last night. Adam and Ryan seemed worse for wear, they each had a few wounds on their faces which would eventually heal by themselves. Adam had a bandage on his upper left arm and Ryan had one wrapped round his right hand. The Gammas were no better off. I followed Alex over to them and stood to one side as the others talked.

“How could you have made such a bad decision?” Amber asked. She was one of our Alphas. She had long blonde hair, almost platinum white, with sparkling dark green eyes; her complexion was almost as pale as her hair and she stood with an air of stature and pride about her. She hated me and sneered at me whenever we did pass each other.
Her mate, standing a little more quietly behind her, is Kodan; we had encounters together but that was before he and Amber found each other. He was a little more calculating but sometimes he could be impulsive if he was pushed in the right direction.
“As Alex, just said, Amber... they trespassed on our land,” Ryan answered her back.
“And why didn’t we know of this sooner?”
Kodan stepped forward and touched Amber on the elbow, then whispered something to her. Whatever it was he said it was enough to make her leave, kissing him on the lips then left without another word.
