Yurisa was born in Sendai to Agawa Maki and Hirai Mayuka and she has an older brother (Agawa Ren) and a younger sister (Agawa Funa). Yurisa was trained in dancing from a young age and her older brother was an avid fan of music, especially Kpop and he introduced Yurisa to Kpop with SNSD's Into The New World and ever since then she wanted to be an artist. Yurisa eventually went to Korea to audition for FNC Entertainment and she passed it and became a trainee. During her time at FNC, the company asked her to go onto Idol School in which Yurisa placed #36 and left FNC that year to join SM Entertainment where she became friends with the likes of Kep1er's Chaehyun and æspa's Karin however she left the company after her 2 year trainee contract expired (which she chose not to resign due to treatment) and she moved to KQ Entertainment where she ultimately made her debut.
