Before going to first period, Addison walked to his locker. Glancing down at the time, he sighed. He was 20 minutes late to class.
At this point, he's no better than Paige.
He and Oliver had a specific schedule, especially for morning practices. They shouldn't have taken as long as they did this morning. Addison usually had everything down to a tee.
It took them 20 minutes to shower and change in the locker room and about 2 to get to the student parking lot.
That leaves them 15 minutes to...yeah and 10 minutes to get to class without being late.
But today there was more foreplay, Oliver wouldn't just get on with it. Addison was too caught up in the moment to get him to stop.
This was a regular occurrence, he always seemed to get caught up with Oliver. For 2 years he's been caught up in the feeling of validation.
Validation from someone that he swore years ago he would never deal with again.
By the time Addison made it into 1st period, Oliver was already seated in his usual spot. Yes, they have 1st period together, plus 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and lunch.
He had to sit in a 45-minute class with Oliver 4 times out of the day. That wouldn't be such a bad thing if Oliver didn't compete with him in every subject.
Oliver is "the best" at math, history, and for some reason, lunch.
How do you even do that?
School is very important to Addison. What else does he have to care about? His shitty job at a pizza place?
But it's hard to focus in class when there is always someone trying to make you look like an idiot.
Oliver's a dick, but Addison can't complain because he can't help but love his dick. Not that anyone knows that, he would never live it down if anyone found out about them.
Addison was out, so was Oliver as bisexual. Homophobes weren't something that Addison worried about.
At least not anymore.
"Addison, why are you late for my class? Do you have a pass?"
He looked at his teacher, eyes as wide as a deer caught in headlights. "Hi, Ms. Cass I was caught up in...the bathroom."
She looked at him skeptically but nodded, "Don't let it happen again"
He sighed and found his seat right beside the window.
Far away from Oliver.
But a few desks never stopped Oliver from being a pain in the ass, and it sure didn't stop him now.
"Did anyone solve it or do you need more time?" Ms. Cass asked standing up to the Promethean board. She changed her tab to a blank screen and gave them a questioning glance.
Addison put the finishing touches on his work and raised his hand. Oliver's hand obnoxiously followed.
"Addison?"
"2?"
Laughter from across the room was followed by, "That's wrong.".
Addison scowled, "Excuse me?"
Oliver turned back in his seat and grinned, " I said, that is wrong. You calculated wrong."
"No, I didn't." Addison bit back, "You calculated wrong."
"I know how to do simple math." A few girls giggled from the back of the class making Addison glare in their direction.
"So do I-"
"-Boys stop! Oliver... What did you get?"
"I got negative 110, ma'am." Oliver folded his hands in front of him with a smug grin.
Ms. Cass looked down at her answer sheet and sighed, "Mr. Beckett you are correct, Addison see me after class."
Addison avoided Oliver's bitchy smirk and shrunk back in his seat. The end of class came slower than it should have, probably because of the nagging feeling of embarrassment. Or Ms. Cass's disappointed glances from her desk.
The moment the bell rang Addison got a text message.
Oliver: Maybe other than fucking we should spend our time together studying. I can tutor you if you want.
Shut up
Oliver: Bathroom?
No, I have to meet with Ms. Cass and I'm not in the mood right now. Definitely not with you
Oliver: Ok I'll see you tonight?
mhm
In response to Ms. Cass clearing her throat, he flinched and swiftly slipped his phone into his back pocket.
"Addison I've had this conversation with you multiple times. I didn't think I would have to do it again but here we are." Not looking up, he rocked back and forth on his heels, knowing just what she was going to say. "You and Oliver have been at each other's throats since 9th grade. I can't help but notice that you seem more...invested in this feud than him."
Addison grimaced, "What is that supposed to mean?"
"What I mean is that every time you two disagree you're the one that distracts the class. And I can't have that anymore so either you get along with him or I may have to talk to your coach."
He snorted and shook his head in amusement, "What coach?"
She sighed, "Just stop arguing with Oliver in my class okay? Get out I need to eat my breakfast before a meeting." She shooed him out with a slight grin.
Of course, he was the one "invested" in the feud. Oliver had no reason to dislike Addison, not a decent one. But Addison had years of bullying and Oliver to thank for every single one of them.
Flashback
Goody bags, sugar cookies, and shitty Little Caesar's pizza. The perfect making of an elementary school class party. Addison was ecstatic. Not only was it his favorite day, Valentine's Day, but he had a boyfriend this year.
Oliver Beckett
Addison stood in the corner like every other child in the class holding the card he spent hours perfecting. He was gushing with excitement next to his mother as he watched Oliver standing on the other side of the room with his father.
"Mom, can I give it to him now?" 9-year-old Addison eagerly whined. "Look at him, I wanna give it to my boyyyyfriend please." He gave her a wide smile showing missing front tooth.
Mrs. Westbrook laughed and nodded, "You guys are adorable, yes honey go ahead. Make sure you speak to his father, don't be rude."
He nodded and strolled over to Oliver and his father.
Oliver and Addison began dating a week earlier after Oliver asked him out under the slide on the playground. Addison gave him a big kiss on the cheek and agreed, but no one knew. No one but Addison's parents and Addison assumed, Oliver's dad.
He watched as the boy's eyes went wide at the sight of the heart-shaped card being handed his way. The sight of Oliver so excited made Addison feel all giddy inside.
"Here you go. Happy Valentines Day."
Oliver briefly looked up at his father and his whole expression changed. His face morphed into a mean scowl as he took the card and ripped it in half.
"I'm not gay Westbrook. Get away from me before my dad does it for you." The boy spat.
Everyone in the class grew silent.
"But Oliver I thought-"
"-I'm not gay like you. Get away from me faggot."
The boy appeared unrecognizable like this, his words didn't sound like his own. His father stood there watching the whole thing with a sick smirk. If it wasn't for Addison's mother dragging him away Addison would have stood there in shock for god knows how long. Listening to every single one of Oliver's harsh words.
After that day everyone in their grade knew that he was gay.
His worst nightmare.
It started with "innocent" teasing, then it progressed to tripping him on the playground. But by the time middle school came, it was full-on violence, profanities, basically anything they could do to make him feel like shit for being himself.
And the worst part about it was the fact that Oliver came out as bisexual in freshman year and got no shit for it. By that time people didn't worry as much about people's sexualities.
Addison has always resented him for it. Although it may be horrible, deep down he's always felt like Oliver deserved some sort of something. Just a taste of what Addison had to go through for all those years, but he never did.
He became the golden boy, the popular heartthrob. When Addison is still a little frightened to walk around the halls for fear of getting a fist to the gut.
Through all of those years of bullying, Addison still had a slight infatuation with Oliver. That sad crush from 4th grade never went away, until now of course.
Now it's strictly sex, just like it's been for the past 2 years.
But for Addison it's always been more, he just couldn't quite put his finger on exactly why.
