chapter 14: not worth it
Chan returned to the dormitory late at night, at about 3 AM. As soon as he entered the living room, dropping his bag on the sofa, he plopped down beside it, breathing in and out deeply. He relaxed in the darkness of the hall, with only a lamp lit beside his sofa illuminating the area of his sight.
"Um, Chan?"
Her voice caught him off-guard, and he jerked up due to the suddenness of her appearance. She stood behind the sofa, hands fidgeting in front of her chest. He turned around and stood up, harshly asking, "Yeah?"
She flinched at the harshness of his tone, but continued nonetheless, "Y-You haven't been eating well, and they are all w-worried about you-"
"Are you?"
"Huh?" Soojin raised her brows, perplexed at the question that arrived out of the blue.
"Are you worried about me?" Chan asked, staring right into her soul.
"Of course..." she mumbled, looking at the flooring underneath, "It doesn't look like that, but I am."
"Then leave me."
She had seen it coming.
"I... I don't want to, Chan," she spoke, looking back up at him, tears welling up in her eyes, "I don't know if you know this, but... I've loved you. For a long time. And I know that this is not the way to show love, but..." she sniffled, "I don't want you to leave me."
"I would get the chance to leave you only if we were together," Chan stated stoically, "Soojin, we were never together. All this is just a bargain."
A bargain. That was what it was -- a bargain.
She let her tears fall; this ordeal was driving her crazy with all the guilt and heartbreak. Ever since she called the cops on her parents, she had faced poverty, hopelessness, loss of dignity. But when she saw Bang Chan in a live that Ae Ra had shown him, in which he was talking about not giving up and finding hope, she found strength within.
He was the one who had made her strong, but now... he was just breaking her apart. And she knew that her actions and Ae Ra's decision were the reasons why she was so crestfallen.
She knew why Ae Ra had chosen to make this decision -- she knew how much Soojin liked Chan, and she wanted to perhaps unite them and make her happy somehow, but this was not working out. In fact, this was the complete opposite of 'happy'.
But... she wanted his presence.
As twisted as a thought that it was, she craved his presence. Even though she had stirred his life up in the worst way possible, she knew that she wanted to be with him. Perhaps that was how she had been brought up; loving the presence of those whom she believed would protect her, only to heart-wrenchingly get her delusions torn apart by them. She was so used to this.
So she spoke, "Alright... I understand. You can leave. They all do."
Chan inhaled sharply, and he scanned her over: her pretty face molded into a grave frown, her hands balled up into fists, and her very, very attractive body trembling.
He could not hate himself more for noticing how large her breasts were, or how curvy she was, or even how her legs were giving up holding her straight. After all, he realized, he was not bound by love for her -- he was bound by lust.
And as he watched her sob before him, he sighed, placing his arms into a lock before his chest, before hastily stepping forward, unable to control his lust for her, and dragging her to the wall.
Soojin gasped, her tear-filled eyes widening upon the impact, "Wha... Chan?"
"You're not worth it," he whispered to her in a sexual rage, breaking her further by saying that.
And then he pressed his lips on hers.
