"Is it ready, Major?" The sound of clacking shoes echoed down the dark hall.

"Yes, sir, ma'am. The transmutation circle has been readied, and the notes compiled from the previous subjects compared and tested for the best results. Subject twenty two was known for remarkable obedience and intelligence. Thirty seven for its speed and reflexes. Forty two for it's resilience and alchemic ability.

"We've perfected the circle, and the newest subject that you asked for should have those particular traits. When will we be receiving the resource?"

"Expect them within the week. Do not mess this up, Doctor. You know what will happen of you do."

"Yes, ma'am."

Further inside the building, the fearful, crazed shrieking of animals and men alike could be heard. This was a place of terror and pain and death, where none escaped.

"We will not fail."

"Good."

Two pairs of footsteps left the other in the hall, before fading away entirely.

There was silence for a moment, before another person joined the first. "Another one?"

"Yeah. They really want a lot of these chimeras for some reason."

"At least they pay us well?"

"True. You know who they want us to transmute next?" There was the rasp of a lighter opening, and then the acrid scent of cigarette smoke filled the air.

"Who?"

"The Hawk's Eye herself."

"What? Really?"

"Mhmm. How they'll manage to snag her is a mystery to me."

"But they did get that Fullmetal kid, somehow." The first man pointed out.

"Well, sure they did. but he was just a kid. The Hawk's Eye is going to be a lot harder to snag."

"I wouldn't doubt them. I'm sure they have their ways."

"I'm sure you're right."

Only idle chatter followed after that.
