Chapter 17
Sorry for taking so long. I was ill. And Ash finally returns in this chapter, it's about time XD. And I think this song is pretty good for this. I don't know.
Minho walked back out of his room for what seemed to be the hundredth time that day, when it obviously wasn't. But the amount of times he had walked back and forth could almost be seen as that much. He sat down on the floor in an instant, not bothering to sit on the couch like the other two boys had opted. Waiting, he crossed his arms over his chest and let out a sigh before Thomas finally said a word.
"I'm sorry. Not for being mad at you, cause I have a right to be. I'm just sorry." Thomas hung his head down, avoiding eye contact with either of them as Minho turned to look at Newt.
"I guess calling the cops was a little drastic." Came Minho's response, and the blonde really wanted to roll his eyes and mutter a sarcastic remark, but it seemed like Thomas was already one step ahead of him.
"You think?" He said, and Newt could catch a small smile on Minho's lips.
"I'm sorry for calling the cops. But you know that I don't like Newt with you and that's not going to change anytime soon." The blonde could see Thomas' knuckles clench, and he reached for his hand, grasping it as Thomas seemed to calm a little.
"Fine. You don't have to like my boyfriend. Just don't get in the way anymore, and we won't be in the way of yours. Fair enough?" Thomas proposed.
"Fair enough." Minho answered, and they smiled at each other whilst Newt was the awkward one out that had caused the whole situation to even exist in the first place.
"I'm still moving out though." Came Thomas' voice, and Minho and Newt both looked equally shocked at his spoken statement.
"What?" Newt asked, looking at his boyfriend questioningly with his mouth agape, a mirror image of Minho's response.
"Well, if it's okay with you, I'd still love to live with you. I mean, when do we ever really spend time apart anyway? It makes sense." The blonde thought for a minute, seeing what Thomas was saying perfectly clearly, and he would've lied to himself if he would've said that he didn't want to live with him too. Waking up to have Thomas lying right beside him was something he'd hold dearly until he slipped away to go to school. Not that he'd been present a lot lately. Although he did currently have holidays.
"Do you not want to?" Thomas asked, worry laced between his features that faded when Newt smiled at him.
"I would. I do, Tommy." Thomas beamed, turning back to Minho to see that his facial expression was perfectly neutral, as if he'd locked any show of emotion away so that he was unreadable.
"We can live at mine until we find somewhere better." The blonde said, looking at Minho incase he'd object to it, which he probably already was in his mind.
"What about the drugs?" The emotionless boy suddenly asked, and the two others looked at him before looking at each other. Thomas' eyes lingered on Newt's, wanting to know his answer just as much as Minho did once it had been asked.
"What about them?" Minho scoffed, laughing bitterly as he shook his head.
"You can't sell them forever, Newt." Thomas found himself nodding along to what his used to be friend had to say, because he did have a point in saying that. It was true, the blonde would not be able to keep this up forever.
"I know I can't. I'll have to see how I'm gonna sort that. It's not that easy to get out." He said, keeping firm eye contact with Minho as Thomas looked on. Eventually, Minho got up, going back into his room without saying anything else to either Newt or Thomas, who were still placed on the couch. Thomas looked at Newt, Newt returning his gaze.
"That went well." Newt could only laugh in response.
----------------------------------------
Another week later, and Thomas, Newt, Minho, and Ash, were all loading boxes with the things in Thomas' room. The blonde and Thomas himself were by his bookshelf, putting books into the box they'd placed between them whilst Ash and Minho were rummaging through his closet, laughing at half of what he owned as they threw it into a mess on the floor.
"Guys, can you put that in the box? Not outside the box." Thomas asked, aware of the fact that it was unlikely that they would listen. Ash looked at him though, considering it for a minute before Minho gave her a look that told her that she should do as she pleases. Thomas groaned when he saw them throw clothes at each other.
Now, just because Minho and Thomas were in the room together and being civil, did not mean that they'd made up. Quite the opposite actually, they still didn't see eye to eye, and Minho had been extremely reluctant to help out until Ash had bounced into the room to do exactly that.
Newt was sat on the floor, reading the back of each book rather than packing it away as quickly as possible like Thomas was doing, so in the end, Thomas was doing the majority of the work. However, he looked on at the blonde adoringly as he skimmed through the words with his eyes, tongue poking out from his lips as he thought in concentration. It was quite adorable, and a month or so ago, Thomas wouldn't have thought he was capable of looking like that.
"I'm gonna go make some coffee." Ash said, starting to go to the door that led back into the living room before Minho told her to wait so that he could follow with. When they were gone, Newt turned to Thomas with a pout.
"Didn't even ask if I wanted a bloody coffee." Thomas laughed, putting two more books into the box before deciding that the rest of it should be filled with pillows to even out the weight.
In the meantime, Ash was placing a capsule in the coffee machine and a mug underneath it, Minho sitting on the counter beside her as he dangled his feet.
"Do you really think this is a good idea?" He asked her after the silence became too deafening for him. Ash glanced up at him, a small smile on her lips before she shrugged.
"Might be a bit of a last minute decision Thomas made, but I don't think it's necessarily bad." She answered, adding a bit of sugar to her coffee, stirring it around before getting started on Minho's own.
"So, you like Newt?" The girl shrugged again, leaning her elbows against the counter as she waited for the second coffee and milk foam to be done.
"Is he the best person Thomas could've fallen in love with? No, definitely not. But as long as Newt loves him back, I don't think there's anything left to worry about now. Besides, they're adults. You have to stop watching over all of us." Minho laughed, watching as she added foam to both mugs before handing one to Minho, the boy taking it gratefully as she sat beside him.
"So, do you like him? Yes or no." Ash laughed, looking at the boy beside her to see a hint of concern there. It made her question what exactly he meant.
"What type of like are we talking here? Cause I don't like him in the way Thomas does, but I don't dislike him the way you do." Minho jumped off the counter, placing his coffee where he had been sitting as he looked at his friend.
"As long as you don't have a crush on him too, I'll be fine." She nodded, placing her coffee beside Minho's as he wrapped his arms around her waist, helping her down even if she was perfectly capable of jumping from the counter herself. He may've held onto her a bit longer than he'd intended to, but she didn't seem to mind much.
"Should we go back to them?" Ash asked after they'd been silent for half a minute or so, and he could only nod along as he walked across the living room and to Thomas' room.
"If they're making out, I'm officially done with everything." She rolled her eyes at Minho in response, both of them opening the door that was already ajar to see Thomas and Newt on the floor across from each other, throwing things at one another and laughing.
The blonde had gone to the corner where Ash and Minho had previously been, taking as many clothes as he could into his hands as he chucked them at Thomas, and Thomas was laughing and throwing the clothes right back to him.
The other two stood at the doorway and watched, the girl shaking her head as laughter erupted from her lips, and Minho had a faint smile dancing on his own lips. They shared a knowing look with each other just as Thomas and Newt started playfully wrestling on the floor, and the girl was the first to break their silence again.
"Still think they're that bad?" She questioned, and Minho had to shake his head, not able to lie. What he saw was incredibly cute.
"They may've been pretty dysfunctional at first, but I must admit they do work pretty well together when I see them like this." Ash smiled at him, resting her head against his arm before she looked at the two lovers before them.
Newt and Thomas were obviously still oblivious to the fact that the other two had come back, and so they gazed at each other lovingly, Newt beneath Thomas as he caressed his cheek. Thomas smiled, holding himself and his weight up to the best of his abilities, but still wanting to be close to the blonde that was beneath him. Their chests were touching and Newt brought Thomas' head down to meet his lips, bringing him into a kiss.
And it was like Minho had said. They were incredibly dysfunctional at one point, and whatever they had had was unhealthy, but what they had now was rare and beautiful, and they were both going to hold that dearly.
If one thing was true, then it was that even through all this, they did work pretty well together.
This isn't actually the end. Promise. It's the almost end.
