Monsters
First things first this story is inspired by SerenaSnape 's the moon is not shamed by the howling of the werewolves it was probably the most adorable thing I had ever read in my life and immediately inspired me. I hope my story does her justice. Ok onward!
Ps I of course own nothing of the Harry Potter universe yada yada. Also this will not be exactly the same as Serena's it's simply inspired by hers. Ok now we can begin 😉
Pps the actress who's photos I'm using to portray Caelen pronounced (Kay-Lynn) is Mackenzie Foy she was the closest I could find to what I imagine Caelen to be. Ok now really here's the story lol
I know most don't even bother to read this but please don't comment disgusting "daddy" comments about Caelen and her actual daddy. You guys are triggering me. It isn't funny. How is implying child molestation funny to you people?! Seriously I delete like 5-10 comments every day!! It's getting ridiculous! Honestly I live with my mind in the gutter but when a child is involved it isn't funny and you seriously need to stop!

Caelen lay whimpering in the dark corner in the basement of her mother's house. A cold iron chain hung heavily from her neck confining her to the shadows. Water dripped slowly down the walls of the ancient foundation mingling on the wet concrete slab the small child huddled upon. It had been a nice house once it was red brick with a small front stoop and it had at one point had cheerful yellow shutters and a matching door but time and lack of care had caused the paint to chip and peel, that paired with the general disrepair of the house caused a dilapidated, even spooky appearance.
Caelen rarely saw the upper rooms with their furniture that her mother thought made her look wealthy. Caelen thought it just looked fussy, there was too much, too many gilded edges too many crystals and baubles and entirely too many colors. Every room in that house was gaudy and stuffed full of shiny things as if her mother were a very large magpie and the house her nest.
The basement wasn't like that however, the basement was mostly empty save for a few spider webs some lawn implements, including her mother's weapons of choice a bat and a small silver dagger. These weapons were not there to protect the woman they were there to torment her small daughter. Tonight was the full moon, her mother was never kind but it was always worse these nights.
Gena hated Caelen she hated her resemblance to her father, the memories that brought with it, but most of all she hated what she was, a werewolf. It wasn't as if the child had asked for this it had always been this way, guess that's how it go's when your father is one.
The girl flinched as the door leading upstairs creaked signally her mother had returned. She pressed herself further into the corner desperate for some sort of escape.
"You can't hide from me freak!" Her mother snapped nearing the shivering girl. She grabbed Caelen's jaw harshly her long red nails digging painfully into the child's cheeks. "You know why you have to be chained don't you? Why no one cares?" She growled.
Caelen knew by now she wasn't looking for a response she simply wanted to hurt her. The small child nodded, her long brown hair falling around her face like a shield, "cuz I'm a monster." She whispered fully believing the lie she'd been told since she could remember.
"That's right you are a monster!" Gena shouted angrily.
Caelen tuned out of her mother's continued ranting as she caught sight of the moon just peaking out from behind the clouds. She grunted slightly as her bones rearranged themselves and she turned into her wolf form. Tonight was the night, she'd been planning this all month. What her mother hadn't accounted for when she'd gotten a larger collar was that while the human Caelen's head and neck had outgrown the old one the werewolf Caelen grew at a different rate.
Caelen hoped with everything in her that her assumptions were correct as she strained to tug her head through the collar. As her ears slipped through she let out a small yip of triumph and raced for the open stairway, she knew she had to be fast she'd only have a moment her mother would certainly never make this mistake again.
The small wolf pup raced full speed towards the door her heart crumbling in dismay when she found it locked. 'No! No no no! It has to be open! This is my only chance!!' She screamed panicking in her mind. She heard pounding footsteps nearing the kitchen and rushed to hide.
She lay panting quietly her little heart thundering in her ears as her mother searched the house angrily throwing things as she went. The little pup hesitated only a moment when Gena stormed outside before racing through the open door.
She dashed as quickly as possible away from the house and her tormenter, away from the nightmare that had been her life for the past six years. Her tiny paws ached and her lungs screamed but she didn't dare stop, not now, not when she'd finally gotten out. Caelen chanted her father's address, she'd found last month while cleaning the attic, repeatedly in her mind; '14 Valentine lane, Cornwall.' She repeated desperately as if the knowledge was a lifeline in its own right.
Finally Caelen stumbled to a stop the wolf pup whimpered quietly, her tiny chest heaving for air, her paws sore and bloody. She'd done it she'd escaped! The excitement overrode the pain she felt and she allowed herself a moment to celebrate. The pup let out a short happy yip her little tail wagging happily.
Forcing her weak limbs to stand she began her journey somewhere out there, wherever Valentine lane and Cornwall was, Caelen had a hope. Remus Lupin, her father. The young girl had concluded if Gena hated him that could mean one of two things, either he was nothing like her mother, which Caelen hoped was the case, or he was worse, she'd have to be cautious.

Remus Lupin awoke slowly his body ached from the numerous self inflicted bites and scratches that accompanied a full moon. The man sighed knowing that tonight it would happen again, it was a double full moon this month, double the curse.
He trudged up the stairs from his self appointed 'bunker' unlike a normal bunker which was generally used to protect its occupant from others Remus' bunker was used to protect others from him. Really it was just his basement that he and his friends Sirius and James had reinforced for his transformations. His home itself was a very a modest structure, a small two bedroom cottage with a vermillion colored door.
He wandered into his kitchen slowly going about making a meager breakfast of an egg and a small pot of coffee. Remus was just sitting down at his worn kitchen table when a small timid knocking sounded on his front door. It was so quiet for a moment he simply sat there wandering if he'd actually heard it before the noise sounded again.
Lupin stood slowly walking to the door a puzzled expression on his face. "Yes?" He questioned as he opened the door his eyes searching for the knocker.
"Are you r-Remus l-Lupin?" A tiny voice stammered nervously.
Remus looked down to find a tiny girl who couldn't have been older than five or six looking up at him her long brown hair was tangled and dirty her skin was pale as if she'd rarely seen sunlight. The tattered tshirt she wore hung off her bony little shoulders and she shivered in the late autumn wind. The man couldn't help but wonder what kind of person would let their child get in this condition. He knelt before the trembling child, "I am, can I help you little one?" He questioned gently.
The girl shivered the cold wind and her nervousness getting the better of her, she hesitated caution or possibly fear flashed through her eyes and she turned to look behind her as if second guessing herself.
"Why don't I make you some hot chocolate and you can tell me while you warm up?" Remus suggested quietly worried for the child's health.
She looked back again biting her lip nervously before nodding and walking inside. Remus couldn't help but notice when she flinched as the door clicked behind her panic lighting in her chocolate brown eyes for the briefest moment.
The child walked hesitantly towards his kitchen table as if every step pained her. Remus assumed her tiny feet were sore from walking in the cold and wet. He would have liked to assist her but thought better of it not wanting to frighten the timid girl further. "Well you know my name but I must say I'm baffled as to who you might be?"
The girl shuffled her feet nervously her eyes trained on the ground, "my names Caelen," she mumbled quietly, "Caelen Reese Lupin, you....ummmm you know my m-mother Gena..." She glanced up briefly at the end her eyes searching his desperately.
The older Lupin sat in a rush, a stunned silence falling over the room. Gena? He'd thought he'd loved her and maybe in some ways he had or at least he'd loved who he believed her to be at the time but a short uncomfortable marriage had shown him her true colors the thought of that woman having a child was terrifying the fact that said child had shown up on his doorstep with his last name sent parental terror through his veins. "You're Gena's daughter? How umm how old are you?" He asked quietly.
"Yeah," the girl confirmed her tone saying how much she wished she weren't, "I'm six."
Lupin groaned leaning his head into his hands his elbows resting on his knees, "you're uh...are you uh?" He wasn't sure how to finish or if he even wanted to, how do you even ask a child if you're their parent? It didn't seem like something that someone should be faced with.
Caelen seemed to sense his struggle she eyed him nervously biting her bottom lip, "she said, she said you're my dad..." The girl whispered after an uncomfortable pause.
Remus knelt once more trying to get on the girls level slowing getting closer to the timid child, "where's your mother?" He questioned desperately hoping she hadn't treated the girl how he imagined she would have.
Caelen's head snapped up terror filling her eyes, "I'm not going back you can't send me back!" She pleaded in a terrified voice backing towards the door.
"Easy, easy no ones sending anyone anywhere," he reassured quickly reaching to stop the girl. Remus reached to grab her upper arms scared she'd race out and be lost. He loosened his grip immediately when the child winced in pain.
The t-shirts sleeves hung down covering her arms from where it hung off her shoulder to her wrists, Remus hesitantly took the child's hand and pushed her sleeve up revealing numerous cuts and bruises littering her tiny arms. Tears filled his eyes as he watch the tiny child, his child, struggle to hold in her tears. "Did Gena do this to you?" Remus choked out desperately hoping she'd say no.
Caelen nodded slowly, sniffling quietly. "She, she said I w-was a freak and that's what f-freaks get." She mumbled tearfully.
Remus was filled with red hot fury, how dare she, how dare that sick twisted monster harm his child!? The child seemed to sense his anger and desperately tried to jerk her arm away from him in a panic. "Wait wait it's ok it's ok!" Lupin hurriedly repeated attempting to calm the struggling girl.
Caelen, seeming to realize she wasn't going to escape collapsed to the floor her legs pulled up to her chest her little head tucked between her knees, "I'm sorry! Don't hurt me please!?" She yelped further breaking her father's heart.
"I'm not going to hurt you," he whispered sadly, "I'd never hurt you Caelen."
