Alexa's Point of View
Sacramento, California. Oh how beautiful, I could see it in the distance. Aaron was driving still, approaching the tower bridge.
"I know it's no Golden Gate Bridge," Aaron said as he kept driving. "But one day, we will go to San Francisco when we have more time."
I nodded my head, "One day."
It was so weird to imagine a future with Aaron. Where we go on dates and walk with each other in school. It felt weird suddenly to no longer be walking with Hamzah. But Hamzah didn't talk to me anymore anyways.
"What are you thinking about?" Asked Aaron as he looked over at me. "We're going over the bridge, it's the best part."
"The best part?" I nearly snapped my neck looking over at him. "The anxiety I feel driving over a body of water very high up, is intense."
He rolled his eyes, "Learn to love it."
"Oh yes Aaron," I nodded my head sarcastically. "I'll just tell my nerves to go away."
"You know what I mean Alexa," He said continuing to drive.
I reached my hand for his phone which was on the aux cord and switched the song.
"Hey!" He called over the loud beginning of a new song. "I liked that song!"
"I didn't know it," I laughed at him. "I want to be able to sing along."
"You haven't even sang this entire car ride. Now all of a sudden you want to?" He asked.
"Yeah," I responded.
He shook his head. Occasionally he would tap his fingers against the steering wheel or the stick shift. He hummed along to the few remaining songs before parallel parking on a main street.
"I could never parallel park," I said as I got out the car.
"I'm pretty good at it. Do you even drive?" He asked as he too, exited the vehicle.
"No," I said. "It's kind of like.. a fear of mine?"
"You're afraid of driving?" He asked going to grab my hand as we walked side by side on the sidewalk.
"Not exactly," I said. "If the world was empty, I'd drive. So it's not that I'm afraid to get behind the wheel. I'm afraid of all the other ignorant drivers."
"That's why you have to be extra aware," He said.
We kept walking, "Where are we going?" I asked.
"I think there's a few street murals this way. They're really pretty," He said.
We continued walking until stumbling upon a beautiful mural. The mural showcased a big tiger.
"Ooh I love it!" I said. "I love tigers they looks so cuddly."
"Cuddly?" Aaron asked.
"Yeah.." I said. "If they didn't have teeth or claws."
Aaron shook his head in laughter.
"Like imagine just petting their big mushy paws," I said. "Sooooo cute."
I took my phone out my pocket, I took a picture of the mural. It was so beautiful. It was insane how people pained these, it blew my mind.
Aaron and I eventually came upon another mural, it showed a boy who's head was in space. This one was definitely my favorite.
"Oh I love this one," I said taking a picture.
"Why?" He asked.
"His head is a part of the solar system! And he's kissing another boy, who is a galaxy. It's just so interesting," I said.
He nodded his head, "I like it too."
I smiled, "When's your birthday?" I asked him.
"May twenty-third," He said as we kept walking.
"Gemini?" I said aloud. "That makes a lot of sense now."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked.
"It makes sense that you like to party, you're very outgoing," I said. "But.."
"But..?" Aaron said right after me.
"But, you can be a little unreliable," I said.
"What no way," He said shaking his head.
"Maybe even noncommittal," I said raising an eyebrow towards his direction.
"Yeah right," He said. "When's your birthday?"
"July 4th," I said. "I'm a cancer."
"And what does that mean?" He asked.
"It means I'm super emotional and intuitive," I said. "But also overly sensitive and moody."
"Overly sensitive huh?" He asked.
"Oh please shut up," I rolled my eyes.
"You wanna get something to eat?" He asked and squeezed my hand.
I nodded my head, "What time do we have to leave Sacramento to get back home in time?" I asked.
"What time do you have to be home?" He asked. "It's an hour and a half."
I shrugged, "I don't know. Just early enough."
"Okay we can get some food then go home just to make sure everything goes smoothly," He said.
I nodded my head as we walked.
"Some of these restaurants look very fancy," I said looking around.
"What's wrong with that?" He asked.
"I just am totally not dressed for the occasion and it's one hundred percent overrated," I said.
"The food is amazing," He said.
"The food is ridiculously overpriced," I said. "I'm just fine with McDonald's cheeseburger."
Aaron laughed at me.
"I know," I said. "How classy."
"Let's go in here," He said opening the door for me.
We walked in, it was dimly lit for a steakhouse. Not in a romantic way, but in a different way.
"Table for two," Aaron said, we were immediately seated.
"What can I get you two to drink?" Asked the waiter.
"I'll have a coke," Aaron said.
"Me too," I smiled.
"Alright, be right back with those," Said our waiter before walking off.
"What are you thinking of getting?" Asked Aaron.
"Maybe a burger," I shrugged.
"Why not steak? It's a steakhouse," Aaron said.
"Eh not really in the mood, but I would love a good burger," I said.
"Well I'm gonna get a steak," Aaron said.
"Yeah you do that," I laughed.
Our waiter came back, placing our cokes on the table, "You guys need more time?"
"I don't think so," Aaron said.
"Then what can I get you?"
"I'll just have the house steak with greens," Aaron politely said.
"How would you like your steak cooked?"
"Medium well," He said.
I cringed at the thought of eating any meat medium well.
"And for you?"
"I'd like a bacon cheese burger with fries," I said. "But no pickles, lettuce, tomato, or ketchup on the burger."
"How would you like your burger cooked?"
"Well done," I said.
I looked over to Aaron who rolled his eyes.
"Alright. It will probably take around fifteen to twenty minutes."
We handed the waiter our menus and he left.
"Well done?" He asked. "That's gross."
"How is that gross?" I asked.
"It's so dry.." He trailed off.
"Not if they know how to properly cook it," I shrugged. "Besides, I would rather have a dry burger than a burger that's not dry but full of blood."
"It's not full of blood," Argued Aaron.
"It's gross," I said. "If it's pink I won't eat it."
"How do you like your eggs?" Asked Aaron.
"Over easy?" I asked.
"That's the same thing as eating a rare steak," Aaron laughed.
"No no," I shook my head.
"You can get salmonella from both," He said.
"Ew stop stop," I said. "Ew."
"You're gonna try my steak," He said.
"No way," I shook my head.
Aaron and I talked and talked until our food was brought out and set in front of us.
I grabbed my burger and took a bite, "Mmmm," I said as I chewed. "So juicy and not with blood."
He shook his head and cut his steak, eating a piece, "So good."
He pushed his fork towards my face, "Try it."
"No," I said.
He titled his head, "Fine," I said.
I opened my mouth and he fed me steak, this felt too cliché. To my surprise, it was good, but I wasn't going to show that.
"Ugh gross," I said despite secretly liking it.
"Yeah right," Aaron said. "You're so dramatic."
"Why cause I'm a girl?" I asked.
"No of course not," He said. "Because you're a cancer."
"I-" I started to laugh really hard when he said that. "You're so dumb Aaron."
We kept eating until we were full. Aaron paid the bill and we left. It was a while to walk all the way back to the car, but I didn't mind. Despite it being a little cold, it wasn't windy so it wasn't as bad.
"Let's go home," He said as we got in the car."
I reclined the seat back a little bit as I pulled out my phone. I had missed a text from Haley.
Hales: heyyy lex wyd i wanna hang out !!
Me: hey hales sorry aaron & i are in sacramento

"Hey Alexa," I heard a soft whisper as I was nudged.
"Hmm?" I asked ask my eyes opened.
"We're at your house," He said. "Wake up sleepyhead."
I blinked a few times, trying to get my vision to focus.
"I fell asleep?" I asked sitting up.
"Yeah," He said. "And left me all alone for an hour and a half to drive."
I looked up at him, he was flashing his puppy eyes.
"Shut up," I rolled my eyes.
He smiled.
"I'm sorry though," I said. "Thanks for today, I had fun."
"Next day trip will be San Francisco," He said.
"Got it," I said smiling.
I sat up and got out the car. He rolled the window down, "Text me."
"I will," I said before walking off to my house.
I climbed into my window and sat on my bed. Just thinking of today.
"Alexa!" I heard my father call.
I panicked and jumped out of bed and quickly put on pajamas, throwing my days clothes away in my hamper.
I rushed my way into the living room. My mom and father sat next to each other.
"Who was that boy's car you just got out of?" Asked my father.
"I-"
"Your mother told me you were home sick," He said.
I grit my teeth together angrily, "So I can't have a boyfriend, but you can have a girlfriend?" I spit out to my father.
"A girlfriend?" Asked my father. "Your mom is my wife."
"Oh I'm not talking about mom," I crossed my arms. "I'm talking about the girl you brought home last night when you thought I was asleep."
"Wait what?" My mom said looking at him. "Is this true?"
My father stood up, "Alexa I'm done with your behavior. It's getting out of control!"
"You haven't even been on business trips!" I cried out. "You're cheating on mom!"
"Get out!" My mom yelled in his face. "Pack whatever you need, get out, and don't come back."
"I-" He stuttered.
"Now!" My mom yelled.
She look furious, but also sad. Her face was red and her eyes were wet.
"Alexa," My mom started but couldn't finished what she was saying.
"It's okay mom," I said hugging her. "I'm sorry for going out with him today. I just couldn't think straight after seeing him and.. that woman."
"It's okay," My mom said holding on to me.
