Adrenaline Rush
I ran as fast as I could, my paws thudding against the cold, leafy, forest floor. My heart was pounding heavily, the rain pouring down softly. I could still hear the ferocious snarls and viscous barks of the wolves chasing me. Even though I was farther ahead than them, I couldn't risk the chances of them catching up.
I could feel my muscles twisting in pain as I ran as fast as I could. 'My legs hurt so bad... just a little farther maybe...' I forced myself to go on. I leapt over a fallen tree and as I landed, my legs collapsed. I turned back and forth to find a hiding spot as the rain began to pour down harder and their barks louder. I suddenly rolled beneath the tree into a small spot just big enough for me to slip into. I then began to roll in the mud and leaves. As my pelt grew sticky with mud I sunk back as far as I could. The barks stopped.
I held my breath as a nose poked into the entrance of the hole I was in. The wolf gave a loud bark and then took off, the other wolves following. I remained still for a long time. To be honest, I was catching my breath. Once I was sure it was safe, I left the hole. Being a pup has SO many advantages. I sighed with relief and leapt over the tree once more.
I padded away in the direction I had come, taking my time as the rain started to patter down softly. Suddenly, I froze. There was more barking in the distance, did they find me again? Already? I stopped and listened to find out the direction it was in.
'This time I am staying an fighting. No more running.'
I then realized the barks were high-pitched and playful. Pups like me? I couldn't stop myself from running in that direction. I slipped through the mud and stopped in front of two wolves about my age. They turned to me instantly, growling. I instinctively got into a fighting stance. I bared my teeth, lifted my tail, lowered my head, and growled lowly and deeply. If this was about to become a fight, so be it.
