Chapter Thirteen: Idiot

Blake's POV

A gasp left Hayden's lips as soon as I dropped the rest of the water from my canteen onto his face. A snort left me while my fingers tightened the canteen lid.

"Rise and Shine Princess,"

Hayden groaned and stretched his muscles, cracking his neck and knuckles. The popping sound made me wince a bit. He stood up off of the gross floor, grabbing the small backpack he used as a pillow. It was soon slung over his back.

"Couldn't we have taken the R.V. back? I mean we are just wasting money at this point," Hayden muttered under his breath.

I agreed, but we couldn't let Theo know we left, even if he did know, he could potentially figure out where if we came back the same way we escaped. My hand grasped the old and rustic door handle, twisting it open.

The door slammed in Hayden's face, trust me, it was on purpose. This entire trip so far was of me just avoiding this...idiot! He seemed to grow suspicious.

I went to a payphone, grabbing the phone into one of my hands. The other dug into the bag pocket of my jeans, grabbing a crumpled up piece of paper and a coin. I opened it up and saw the phone number written on it.

"Okay, Blake what's wrong? You've been ignoring me this entire trip." Hayden asks.

Scoffing, I dial the number and enter the quarter, waiting for the person to answer,

"Hello, U.S. Taxi Services, what can I do for ya'?" He sounded so bored.

"Hi, my name is Mitchell-" I look at Hayden and mouth to him, "Give me the last name."

He blurts out a random name.

"Barry."

I roll my eyes at the stupid name but go along with it, after a couple of breaths I start to speak again.

"My name is Mitchell Barry, My friend and I are in the need of your...service. It's a long way from here but we have the money. Any chance one of your drivers is up for the job?"

The sound of a keyboard clicking filled the silence, along with some humming from the other end of the line.

"Ah, yes, I've got one. Can I get an address of your location?"

"Where are we?" I ask Hayden.

He turned his head to the large sign reading the motel name. Yes, we stayed in a motel for the night. I couldn't risk Hayden getting killed in the woods, Luna would murder me.

"We are at a Motel 6 off of I-80"

I repeat it to the person I was speaking to. It was that easy.

"His name is Vicky, he'll be there in about an hour, is that alright?"

"That's perfect."

*****

It's been thirty minutes of us waiting outside in the cold weather, causing Hayden and me to shiver deeply. He finally broke the quiet air, irritating me.

"Blake, why are you so upset?"

"We were finally safe, this is a dumb mistake you know? What if you don't come back? You got a wife and baby waiting for you at home."

He scratched his head, taking off his glasses. I saw him wipe the sides of his nose, getting rid of the natural oils and grease.

"You have a girl to get back to also,"

"Yeah, and a child on the way also," I whisper.

Hayden's mouth gapes open with shock and he starts to laugh hysterically. I scoot away from him, watching the empty road. He pats my shoulder, congratulating me.

"That's awesome man! Congrats on making ME an uncle now," He cheered.

"What if we don't make it?" I snapped.

His mood changed quickly and he frowned at how upset I was. I'm scared that something is going to happen to Monica while I am gone. It scared me leaving her all alone and pregnant.

"We will, I know it. Once we get to the Packhouse we are safe, we will also get a connection and can call the girls. I hope you know she's in good hands I promise." Hayden states.

I sigh and rub my temple with stress,

"You don't understand what I am feeling. My mate is pregnant and I'm not with her."

Hayden shook his head, resting his hands on his hips while eyes glaring straight into my soul. He looked really upset and disappointed in me.

"You of all people should know that I understand the most. My PREGNANT wife was kidnapped by werewolves, even worse, rogues. I was injured and didn't know where the hell she was. Jade was in labor and I wasn't there for her."

I gulp quietly.

"Think I don't know the feelin'? Think again."

He was right. Now I just felt like a douche for all of this mess I had created. A sound of tires crunching on the small rocky road drifted my gaze away from Hayden. He walked past me, shoving his shoulder deep into mine.

Ouch.

I rubbed to the pinching area, following him to the yellow cab waiting for us. He sat in the passenger seat tossing his bag in the back. I opened the door sliding into the back seat.

"Where to?"

I couldn't lead him to the actual place, someplace near would be better.

"Can you take us to the-" Shit what was the mall name? I'm sure there was only one mall here right? "Nearest mall?"

The driver nods and starts driving, hitting a few bumps here and there. Hayden kept quiet the entire trip, looking out at the endless trees. I glance in the rearview mirror, seeing the driver staring at me intensely.

"Eyes on the road buddy," I grunted.

They flickered back to the view in front of him, his eyes becoming yellow. Rogue. Oh no!

"HAYDEN WATCH OUT-"

The rogue sneered and grew out his canines, I did the same. Hayden took his belt off, kicking the mutt in the face and flopping beside me. I went behind the driver's seat, clawing at the rogue while he drove.

I ripped the belt in half, opening the door next to me. The pressure allowed me to drag the rogue out of the moving car.

"HAYDEN! GRAB THE DAMN WHEEL!" I roared loudly.

He climbed over the seat, controlling the cab as best he could. The rogue kept clawing at me, gripping onto my leg as the car went left and right. I kicked his face multiple times but he wouldn't budge. There was only one thing I could do.

"TELL MONICA I LOVE HER, END THIS WAR HAYDEN!"

He looked in the rearview mirror shaking his head. He knew what I was going to do.

"NO, DON'T DO IT,"

It was too late, I jumped out of the moving car and tumbled with the rogue on top of me. A sad smile made it's way to my lips as Hayden drove off. In a swift motion, I stood up getting into a fighting stance. The rogue chuckled, twisting his neck also preparing for the fight.

He made the first move, throwing a punch that I blocked with ease. I gutted him with my elbow, head butting his nose. He drew back holding onto his bloody nose.

I heard an engine to my left and a smirk replaces the pain on my face. I walk to the rogue punching him a couple of times.

I move out of the way, and the yellow cab rams into the mutt. His blood splattered all over the windshield and windows. Hayden rolls one down, trying to catch his breath from what just happened.

"Get in,"

My shaking hand opened the passenger door, entering the car again. Hayden drove off right away, giving me no chance to put on a belt or anything. He just saved my life.

"Yeah, Don't complain, idiot, you already ruined everything." Cole, my wolf howled.

"We do not tell Jade about this. By the way, YOU IDIOT, WHAT IF YOU DIED HUH? WHAT WOULD I TELL YOUR MATE?!?" Hayden yelled at me.

I didn't have time for discipline.

"I'm alive and that's all that matters. Now shut up and drive."

It was exactly what he did and I felt grateful for that. Alpha and Luna better be thankful when they see us, our lives were on the line just for them. I mean, I would give up my life for them anyway, but I'm pretty sure I broke Alpha's rules.

Hayden threw something at me but his eyes were still glued on the road while he nibbled on his bottom lip.

"That's Jade's phone, she let me use it. Check if there are any bars, maybe you can call Mon."

Why was he being so nice to me? I was so rude to him yet Hayden saved my ass and is trying to keep me calm in such a terrible situation. I decided to ask.

"Why are you being so nice to me?"

Hayden shrugged his shoulders but answered me,

"Good morals I guess. Listen, Blake, I don't give a shit if you are nice to me or an absolute asshole, I just want you to know that I think of you as a good friend of mine now. That means that your life is important to me. You're a great guy."

"Thank you," I said.

It was all I could say, he was such a good guy. I could see why Luna trusts him so much, his heart is in the right place. This made me realize why we were going back to the Pack now.

It was to save Luna and Alpha, it was a way to repay them for all they have done for us. Luna may not have been in the Pack for too long but in the time being, she really did change our lives for the better that's for sure.

Before she was there, Alpha was so different...He was so cruel. When Luna showed up, she melted his cold heart, changing him right away. It was so, nice to see that change.

"So, got any bars?" Hayden asks,

I jump out of my thoughts, clearing my throat, and pushed the home button of the older generation iPhone. There was a small crack on the corner and the phone case was coming apart.

I raise it up above my head, seeing the first two bars light up and blink.

"Haha! Yes! We have service! Okay, what number do I call?"

My fingers fumbled over the green phone app, going into contacts. Hayden told me to call his office, which was just named, Hayden's office.

I put the phone on speaker and dropped it into one of the cup holders, hearing it ring a few times. After what seemed like forever, someone finally picked up.

"Hayden's office, Lena speaking,"

It felt good to hear familiar voices.

"Hey Lena, it's Blake-"

"And Hayden!" He cut me off.

I roll my eyes but continue to speak so I can finally hear my mate's voice and just imagine her being in my arms. I really do miss her, and it is weird not having her by my side during this journey. I literally left her with a bunch of puny humans and James of all wolves.

"Hey, guys! Are you all alright? Wait hold on...Monica! Jade!"

There were various sounds of shuffling and movement until all of a sudden it stopped.

"Blake?" Monica questioned.

My heart fluttered and I could feel myself holding in any tears that were wanting to fall.

"Monica! Oh, it's so good to hear your voice, How are you? How's the pup?"

She told me everything they had done that day, from what they ate to their sleeping arrangements. It seemed to me that Jade was taking well care of her and everyone else. Monica and the pup were doing just fine.

That was all I needed to know. I stare at Hayden as Monica continues to talk. His knuckles tightened on the steering wheel, causing them to become white. I knew what was bothering him.

"Hey, Uh Mon? Can you put Jade on the phone?"

Hayden tried to deny it, telling me that it was still my turn.

"No, it's the least I can do."

He chuckled and I hold onto the phone, putting it close to his mouth.

The rest of the time we drove and drove with our girls talking to us. It gave me faith that we would make it to the Pack safe.

Hopefully, we do.
