Chapter Seventeen: Sunday
Monica's POV
I hear the loud organ play as we all rise to our feet. The Church has been treating us well as newcomers. The group sat on a few of the pews in the back of the church as while we watched the Pastor speak.
"I'm so bored," Alex whispered next to me.
A chuckle leaves my lips and I shake my head as his childishness. Aiden and Daniel were interested in the sermon and sat in front of us.
"Family is the most important thing in our lifetimes. It does not matter if you are blood-related or not...it matters about the love..." The Pastor spoke.
Hmmm. I missed home, I missed my family. Even though some of them were here with me. But I felt...lonely.
Yes, James was here but his mate was with him at all times. Lena sat next to me, leaning her head against his shoulder.
I put a hand on my small but growing stomach, feeling another life present.
Everyone began to stand. It took me a moment but I soon stood up also. I felt Lena grab my right hand while Alex held my left.
They put their heads down and prayed quietly to themselves. I close my eyes and breath deeply, praying for the safety of Luna and Alpha, for Blake and Hayden.
Diana's POV
The sun has begun to rise and peeked through the high mountains.
"That's four more, Darling." Luca yawned out.
I was proud of us for all the hard work we have done. We were about halfway done with the Pack members, and Theo was becoming suspicious about everything. Luca was so close to getting caught, but he made it out. Luckily.
"Let's get some rest. You deserve it, babe," I smile.
My arms open for him and he gives me a slight hug, resting his head on me. I scratch his back and massage his head letting him rest his eyes for a moment.
"Mm, Luca honey, contact the others and tell them to head back to our place. We can order takeout and get some sleep. You could really use it, and so could I."
Our lips meet and they mold together so perfectly. I slowly move my hands to his cheeks and hold him closer to myself. He pushes his body toward me, putting a hand on the nape of my neck while the other held my waist.
I pull away, licking my lips afterward.
"Well, I seem to be awake now." Luca joked.
I laugh and drag him back to our Pack.
"Come on. Maybe you'll get lucky tonight...who knows?"
"Ooh, now I'm excited."
He walks next to me putting an arm around my shoulder lazily, kissing the top of my head.
"I should have known it was you doing this little brother,"
Luca shoved me behind him with instinct. Theo had his arms folded and he whistled a tune.
"You really thought I wouldn't have figured it out?"
I really did think he wouldn't. Our scents were too similar to Hayden and Blake's, there a VERY small distinction.
Boy, I hope they are okay. I don't know what to say.
"This is too good. I knew I could not trust you both."
"And you thought we would do the same? Theo, it's quite hard to understand." Luca responded.
I watched the two argue while I stayed behind Luca, holding his bicep so he doesn't do something he regrets. The sun was now fully up and caused me to squint my eyes so much, it seemed as if they were closed.
A loud and pained howl turned my attention away from them and back to the Moon's Pack. Oh no. Blake.
"What are you doing to him!?! Don't hurt him." My voice became stern.
"No can do Luna. Trespassers are punished in this Pack. Including you."
Hayden's POV
Blake spits his red saliva to the side of the chair he was tied up against. Matt left the room without another word as soon as he beat Blake and me until we couldn't take it anymore.
"I hated him anyway," Blake referred to Matt.
In a few minutes, Matt came back but his face was flushed with guilt as he gulped strongly. I flinched when he pulled up another chair next to me and took a seat. Blake and I stared at each other with confusion but kept quiet.
"It's so good to see you both," said Matt after whistling, "Oh, uh sorry for you know...that,"
He waved his finger in front of Blake's face, motioning to the bruises and cuts developing.
"I needed to make it look real until Theo left. Plus, to be honest it finally felt nice to get some anger out, no offense Beta Blake. Anyway, wanna tell me why you both decided to come into this Pack?"
Blake licks his lips, leaving the tip of his tongue out for a moment.
"We were going back to Alpha Luca and Luna Diana. Things didn't go as planned." I was quite vague.
Who could we trust at this point? literally no one. It was such a stupid idea coming back, and I finally realized that. I regret leaving Jade and Mia alone.
"Mh, it seems like it. Listen, I really want to help you both. But Theo will find out if I do." Matt muttered.
"I don't think Hayden trusts you anymore." Blake joked.
I give my eyes a roll shaking my head with disagreement. The idiot read my mind.
"Hey, not cool buddy. We are both idiots for getting stuck here."
"Stop doing that. Now is not the time." I hiss out.
"Or what? You're going to tell me to do 'push-ups'?" He tilts his head, "what is that even supposed to mean?!?"
"Guys stop it. Do you want to get out of here or not?" Matt cuts in.
"I only do that if one of the kids swear. It shows them that cussing is bad."
I ignore Matt and explain. I always used push-ups as a consequence.
"Great, now that it is out of the way, can we please figure out a way to escape?" Matt said.
Blake tugged on the rope that kept him tied to the chair.
"Oh yeah, here let me get that for you,"
Matt untied Blake then went to my side, releasing me from the chair. I grip onto my sore wrists, rubbing the raw skin for some comfort.
"Apologies for that. Theo wanted me to tie you both."
"Sweet. We can totally trust you now." Blake snorted sarcastically.
I felt bad for Matt. He did beat us up, but it wasn't his choice. I'm sure if he didn't, death would've been his best friend.
"Blake. We have no other choice. If we want to escape we have to work together."
"Hayden," Blake started.
"This is so not how I imagined spending my Sunday." He changed the subject.
"Anyway, I know where Theo is. Apparently, members of the pack have been going missing. One by one they are disappearing without a trace."
I shake my head with pure confusion.
"Wait, what?"
"That is how I feel. I really think we need to get the hell out of here before we disappear also."
I totally was on Matt's side for this one. Sorry, Blake.
"Alright, we need to get back to Diana and Luca, like, now. This has to stop. I want to end this bulls*it." Both betas could sense my annoyance and nod.
"Ha! That's push-ups!" Blake yelled, "It's fun to say it. I see why you enjoy it so much."
I stand up from the chair to avoid another conversation. I walk up to the door and slam my shoulder into it. It opened with ease.
"Nice work Hayden." Matt praised me.
"Shut up."
Blake shoved his way past Matt and was soon right next to me as we both were basically tiptoeing in the Packhouse. There was literally no trouble while we walked out and made it out. I breathe in the smell of wet soil and the wildflowers that grew.
"Come on, this way." Matt leads.
We follow him closely to the end of the territory and we hear familiar voices. Damn it, Matt.
"You hear that?" Theo smacks his lips together, "It's silence. Your poor Beta is dead."
Blake took a step forward, but Matt held him back. He put a finger up to his mouth, indicating us to be quiet.
"That's a lie, Blake is still alive and I know it." Diana snapped.
"Alpha King!" A high-pitched voice screeches. I cringe at the noise.
"Not this little shit again," Luca says under his breath.
A young boy appears out of nowhere and points toward the Packhouse. His voice was a bit softer, only so Theo could hear. Theo knelt down to the boy's height, bringing him close. His eyes widen and he stares at Luca with rage.
Theo is soon upright once again, rubbing his hand together softly.
"Well brother, it seems you've done it again."
Theo walks away without a word, running in our direction. Blake grabs my forearm, dragging me away. Matt stays out, allowing himself to be seen,
"I'll meet you, dudes, soon. Get out of here. I can handle this douche wad." Matt refers to Theo.
I felt terrible for leaving him behind. Maybe because I've done it before? I mean that is the whole reason why I am here.
"Come on Hayden! We can make it to our Pack in no time if we are quick."
*****
I was out of breath, my hands on my knees. Blake and I were at the front door of our Packhouse.
"Oh my geez, are you seriously out of breath. It was just a light jog you wimp."
Blake walks in without any consent and I scoff at his rude actions. At least he took his shoes off.
"Hello? Alpha? Luna?" Blake questioned.
I head into the living room, flopping onto the loveseat couch. My back felt relief as soon as it hit the soft cushions. A soft smile makes its way to my lips. Home sweet home.
My eyes were about to close but they didn't when a loud bang caught my attention. I jump out of my comfy position and sprint to where Blake was being held by his will.
"Hey, Woah! Alpha it's me! It's Blake! A-and there's Hayden!" Blake gives me a look of help.
I raise my hands up in surrender and watch the angered Alpha loosen his grip off of Blake's plaid shirt.
Diana rushed down to us, wrapping a blanket around herself.
"What is going on here?!?"
Luca was side by side with Diana in a mere second.
She hadn't noticed us yet as she was speaking to Luca.
"Look, the two dumbasses showed up. You know...I really thought you both were dead,"
I grin and pull Luca into some sort of bro hug. He does the same thing and let go.
Diana was out of words. Her mouth was moving, trying to find something to say. Instead, she gave me a warm embrace.
After a couple of seconds, Luca took her out of my grasp.
"Okay, that's enough of that," Luca says.
He immediately has her in his arms, leaving small and delicate smooches all over her face.
"And no love for me, once again."
Blake sighs sadly in a joking manner.
"Well, we are pissed off at you right now," Luca replies.
He genuinely seemed upset that we had shown up. I didn't understand why though.
"What happened? How did you all escape Theo's Pack? And the crash. What caused it?"
"Well, Hayden and I were driving back...here. I guess someone didn't want to sleep. Even though they really needed it." Blake explains.
"Hey, this isn't the blame game."
"We escaped with the help of a special someone. I still don't like him though. Hayden on the other hand..."
"Who was it?" Luca asks.
"Beta Matt."
