Sorry if any French speech in here isn't correct, I'm just using Google Translate since I don't speak that language.
Her second year had come to a close, and she couldn't have been more pleased. That school was hell upon Earth. The uniforms were beyond ridiculous and so were the classes. The students there were wretched and Scarlett felt she stood out like a sore thumb amongst all those pretty girls with silky hair, porcelain, clear skin and perfect manors and etiquettes.
Scarlett was nothing like them. She had vibrant green eyes and thick red hair that fell down to her lower back, framing her waist. It contrasted to her pale skin that was dusted with light freckles across the bridge of her nose and shoulders. She was one for adventure, enjoying the sun and the nature filled scenes instead of staying inside and hiding away to avoid her hair going frizzy from the humidity.
The red haired girl thought she would have never lived to the day that she would be happy to see the familiar grey walls of the orphanage that she so happened to call home. Her trunk trailed behind her, wand hidden in the depths of her jackets pocket as she entered the familiar building.
"Je suis revenu (I'm back)" she announced, looking to Madam Trish who ran the orphanage.
She just looked at Scarlett from over her glasses, sparing her an acknowledged grunt that the red head shrugged her shoulders at before mounting the stairs and heading to her room.
Her room was rather bare, the walls a faded cream and a worn in green carpet beneath her feet with a set of drawers pushed to one side and her bed resting in the middle of the back wall.
The first thing she did was unpack her scarce belonging using magic and then flopped down onto her creaky bed. She just lay with her face in the pillow for awhile, mulling over the year she had just spent at the magic school she thought she would love at the start but grew to actually despise.
"Another five years of this" she mumbled to herself, avoiding using the French language since English was her first. Even after living in France all her life, she could never pick up their language, but she could with English.
Her wand was grasped weakly in her limp hand, green eyes staring intently into the blue Gem at the top before looking over the spirals that ran all the way down it. It was strange how she had come to own that wand. She had zero money to pay for it, but once the wand maker noticed the connection she had with it, it was instantly hers without pay.
Her mind drifted back as she tried remember her parents. Key word being tried. There was very little she could remember, but all she did seem to know was that there was a baby crying, a green flash of light then followed closely by a shrill scream before everything went silent. She couldn't comprehend how she had remembered it, but that memory had just been there for as long as she could remember.
Her thinking session had seemed to be cut short as multiple thundering footsteps herded past her room, other children's cries of laughter filling the silence as they went.
"Attends-moi! (Wait for me!)" one young girl cried, followed quickly by more laughter that Scarlett drowned out by shoving her pillow over her face and around her ears.
It was going to be a long summer, that's for sure. However, she preferred the grey walls of the orphanage to the elegant, gold walls of Beauxbatons any day. That was one thing she knew for sure!
