AN: For the past two weeks, I've been doing weekly updates for two different stories, and it's been a lot. Throughout that month that I was stockpiling chapters, I got four one-shots done (two for each story), meaning that I did one a week and then tried to keep up with a twice a week schedule. Because of this, I'm already behind on having updates queued. I may have to start updating this story biweekly instead of weekly, which may seem odd because this story is vastly more popular than the other one I'm working on, but I also have a lot more inspiration for that story because I'm still actively getting more content for it, while the Owl House has been on hiatus for a while. I don't know if I'll be able to pick up the pace, so if there's no update next week, you guys know why.

Content: Amity comes out to her parents. It goes as well as expected.

Amity wasn't entirely sure why she was doing this. Since the beginning of her relationship, hiding it from her parents had been her top priority, but now here she was, preparing to willingly tell them everything. She knew damn well that it was probably going to go poorly, she'd even packed a bag in case she got kicked out, but she was still going to do it. She was just so tired of sneaking around and being afraid in her own home, although she didn't know exactly when that had started to bother her. She'd always been afraid in this house.

Dinner with her parents was one of the things that scared her most around here, especially when she had something to tell them. Alador and Odalia Blight sat at opposite ends of the table, their children lined up in age order along the left side. Amity was sat closest to her mother, barely picking at her food and occasionally glancing up and around. How was she supposed to go about this? Somehow, just blurting out 'I'm gay' didn't seem like the way to go.

"Amity," Her mother's voice startled her so badly that she dropped her fork, wincing at the loud clatter of the silverware on her plate. "Don't let your ears sag like that. It's unbecoming."

"Sorry." Amity murmured, forcing her ears into a more neutral position. Well, saying it right after being addressed was probably better than just saying it out of nowhere. Now or never. "Can I tell you guys something?"

Both Edric and Emira looked up at her, but their parents hardly acknowledged that she was speaking. Typical. But maybe it would be easier to say this with fewer eyes on her.

"I'm seeing someone." Amity announced, probably a bit too loudly. Her parents glanced up with vague interest, which was honestly better than what Amity had been expecting.

"Well, that's certainly a surprise." Her father remarked with a hint of amusement in his voice. Of course he'd find this funny, because he didn't think anyone could or would love her without strings. "Why haven't we met this young man?"

"Because I'm not dating a boy," Amity struggled to keep eye contact with her father as his expression morphed from amusement to blatant disappointment. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught her siblings exchanging an alarmed glance. "It's a girl."

"Oh, no, that won't do." Her father shook his head and returned his attention to his meal. He spoke casually, as if they were only talking about the weather. "You'll have to end this relationship immediately. If you're starting to have an interest in relationships, your mother and I will gather a group of suitable candidates for you to choose from."

"No!" Amity blurted before she could think better of it. She was definitely going to get in trouble for that one, but she'd be damned if she let her parents split her and Luz up.

"Amity, you will not speak to your father that way." Her mother snapped. She then took a breath and regained her composure. "You must understand, my dear, we have nothing against the gays," Bullshit, Amity thought. "But we have an image to uphold. What would everyone say if one of our children was so abnormal as to be with another girl?"

Abnormal? Amity gripped the tablecloth, trying not to be obvious about the fact that she was incredibly pissed.

"Gay people are normal." She said, as calmly as could be managed. Both Edric and Emira were making frantic X's with their arms, practically begging her to stop, but she ignored them.

"What others choose to do in their homes is their own business," Her father began, his voice firm. "But you are a Blight. You should know better. Tomorrow morning, you will meet with this girl and tell her that you are not to associate with her anymore."

"I'm not breaking up with her." Amity said lowly.

"Oh, don't be so dramatic." Her mother rolled her eyes in exasperation. "We'll find you a proper young man, and once we do, you'll be thanking us."

"If you can't bring yourself to break up with this girl, we'll do it for you." Her father offered in what Amity could only assume was an attempt to make her feel better.

It had the opposite effect. The thought of her parents finding Luz and forcibly ending their relationship was so genuinely terrifying that, for a moment, she lost all self control.

"You absolutely will not!" She shouted. Everyone at the table jumped, surprised by her outburst. It was only after a few moments of stunned silence that Amity realized that, in her anger, she'd allowed her upper lip to curl and expose her canines.

Slowly, dangerously, her father rose from his seat to look down at her.

"How dare you bare your fangs at me?" He growled, doing the exact same thing to her. It was kind of an empty gesture; she knew he wasn't going to actually use his fangs, just as she wasn't going to use hers, but it was supposed to be sign of authority. A sign she wasn't going to heed any longer.

In the past, Amity would have apologized profusely and immediately hidden her canines, but this time, she exposed them farther.

"You live in my house." Her father said tightly. "You will obey my rules, or you will leave."

Without thinking, Amity pushed her chair out and stood up. Her father narrowed his eyes, while her mother just watched with the kind of intrigue one would typically have while watching a movie. Edric and Emira had a far more appropriate reaction; wide-eyed concern.

"If you leave, you will not be welcome in this house or on this property ever again." Her father told her grimly. "You have a choice to make; this girl, or your family."

Amity held his gaze for a moment, foolishly hoping that he might back down if she didn't break under his pressure. If he was her real family, she told herself, he wouldn't really make her leave.

"I'll choose her every time." She kept herself steady, though it was a physical effort to stop herself from shaking.

"if that's how you feel, I want you out of my house." Her father had never been particularly warm, but Amity couldn't recall him ever sounding quite this cold.

"You can't be serious." A small part of her had hoped that he might be bluffing. After all, despite everything, he was her father. "Mom?" She turned to her mother, as if she were going to find some kind of comfort or assurance that she wasn't actually being kicked out. Predictably, she found no such thing.

"Your father gave you a choice," Her mother replied crisply, hardly looking up from her plate. "And you chose."

Amity glanced between her parents several times, waiting for one of them to say something more. She'd prepared for the possibility of getting kicked out, but now that it was actually happening, she couldn't quite bring herself to believe it.

"Don't you guys think you're being a little harsh?" Amity was surprised when Edric spoke up. The twins were always perfect and submissive around their parents, preferring to do their troublemaking away from home. To hear anything remotely close to defiance was almost unheard of.

"This doesn't concern you." Their mother snapped at him.

"But she didn't do anything." Emira protested.

"You're both welcome to join her." Their father returned to his seat to fixed the twins with a glare, and they both fell silent, gazing apologetically at Amity. They could stand up to nearly any authority figure, but never their own parents. She didn't blame them. "Amity, you made your choice, get out of this house."

Amity stood there, frozen and trying to process the fact that these were probably her last moments in her home. After patiently waiting for all of three seconds, her father bared his fangs once more.

"I said, get out!" He snarled, and Amity immediately whipped around and fled from the room, making a beeline for the main hall that housed the front entrance.

She didn't realize until she was already out on the lawn that she'd forgotten her bag, but she was certain that going back in for it wouldn't be a good idea. Thankfully, her phone was still in her pocket, so she could text her siblings later and ask them to grab it for her.

It hit her suddenly that she was going to have to communicate with them this way from now on. They didn't live together anymore. They were never going to have another lazy morning at home together, or get into another fight over whatever petty nonsense they'd chosen that day. Amity was going to have to sneak around to see her own siblings.

Only upon realizing this did the tears come. She wasn't going to miss her parents, she decided as she made her way across the lawn, but her siblings were another story. They got on her nerves all the time, sure, but they were the only family she had that even remotely cared about her. They were the ones who had looked after her when she broke her leg playing Grudgeby, and the ones who had helped her with her homework when she was little, and the ones who taught her things their parents deemed unnecessary, such as how to cook or lie effectively. They were her real family.

It took about five minutes for Amity to reach the other side of the lawn and actually leave the massive property, struggling with the gate lock for a few moments. It was just her luck that she'd been kicked out when it was dark outside. When she finally managed to unlock the gate, she slipped through and continued on her way, not bothering to lock it behind her, both because she simply didn't feel like struggling with it again and because she knew it would piss her parents off.

She took one last look at the place that had been her home for the past fourteen years before turning away, heading for somewhere that she knew would always have a place for her.

------------
Luz was just about to head upstairs for bed when she heard the knock, followed quickly by Hooty's shrill voice.

"What happened to you?" He was asking, and Luz was instantly hurrying to the door. Hooty opened it before she could even begin to reach for the handle, nearly smacking her in the face.

Just outside the door was Amity, shivering despite the warm weather. Her eyes were red from crying and her ears drooped so far that they were practically resting against her face.

"Oh my God, Amity!" Luz hurried to meet her, her hands quickly finding Amity's shoulders and gripping them gently. "What happened? Are you okay?"

She quickly ushered Amity inside, pulling the door shut behind her. Amity was silent save for her quiet sniffles, her eyes huge and watery as she gazed pitifully at Luz.

"Sweetheart, I need you to tell me what happened." Luz said gently as she led Amity over to the couch and sat her down.

"I came out to my parents." Amity mumbled, her voice thick with tears.

Oh. Oh, no.

"I thought you said you were never going to do that." Luz said, brushing some stray hair out of Amity's face. For the entirety of their relationship, Amity had been careful to never give her parents the slightest hint that she had a girlfriend. Why would she just randomly decide to tell them?

"I wasn't," Amity admitted. "But I was just so sick of it. I don't want to sneak around anymore, I don't want to hide. I was hoping that maybe I was just being paranoid and they wouldn't have too bad a reaction, but it turns out I was right the first time. They kicked me out."

"Oh." Luz said sympathetically. Gently, she pressed a kiss to the side of Amity's head. "It's okay, I'm sure Eda will let you stay here."

"Really?" Amity looked up at her hopefully.

"Of course." Luz promised, and then she turned her head, took a breath, and called up the stairs. "EDA!"

Within seconds, Eda was pounding down the stairs, looking startled. Luz began to think that maybe she shouldn't have screamed.

"What? What's going on?" Eda said as she reached the bottom of the stairs, glancing in confusion between Luz and Amity.

"Do you want me to say it?" Luz ask her girlfriend gently. Amity gave a tiny nod, and Luz turned back to Eda. "Amity came out to her parents and they kicked her out."

Eda was silent for a moment, her ears twitching downward as her expression shifted to something between anger and sympathy.

"Are you okay?" Was the first thing she said.

"Not really." Amity sighed, and Luz put an arm around her shoulders to pull her close.

"I told you that you could always come here if something happened, and I plan to honor that." Eda decided, crossing the room to stand in front of Luz and Amity. "You can stay here for as long as you need. Luz, take her up to your room, okay? I'm gonna see if I can find another sleeping bag for her."

"Okay." Luz nodded as Eda headed over to the closet to search for a sleeping back. Gently, she helped Amity up from the couch and began to lead her upstairs. Amity followed silently, ears still drooping and eyes swimming with new tears. "Amity, it's going to be okay."

"I know." Amity said tightly. They entered Luz's room together and sat down on her sleeping bag. "Thank you for letting me stay here."

"You don't have to thank me." Luz brought one hand up to cup the side of Amity's face, gently brushing her thumb along Amity's cheekbone. "You need me, so I'm here; that's my job. You don't have to thank me for it."

Luz gently enveloped Amity in a hug, feeling the other girl relax against her and nuzzle into her shoulder.

"Luz?" Amity didn't move to look at Luz as she spoke, and Luz was honestly kind of glad that she didn't. It was comfortable, having Amity resting in her arms.

"Yeah?"

"I love you."

Luz paused for a moment. That was the first time she'd heard Amity say that. They'd only been dating for a little over a month; she hadn't been expecting an 'I love you' quite so soon.

When her surprise wore off, Luz didn't even have to think about what she was going to say. She didn't care that it was early. All she cared about was this girl in her arms, this girl who needed her, this girl who had chosen her over family.

This girl who loved her.

"I love you too."
