The first Solarians
"Welcome to Flarena: The capital of Solaria! We will spend all day creating names and bonds and when dusk breaks, we will separate two to a hut. At dawn, we work. You must earn your stay." Albright welcomed the first settlers. They spent the rest of the day coming up with names for the twenty newcomers and throwing potential rules back and forth. Laughs were shared for the first time between any living breathing creature, and feelings for another were more than hatred for once. Noct had strategically sought out ten women, and ten men.
The women were Arani Soleil, Daisy Fleur, Eliane Beltane, Helie Lebone, Ellora Ace, Marici Beltane, Brin Aurelius, Brook Ray, Fawn Electra, and Solanna Sunnavi.
The men were Tesni Solay, Olwen Sunvita, Aiden Branton, Cyrus Anatoly, Ignatius Heliosa, Fier Kiran, Ravi Finray, Aelius Castor, Ara Blaziki, Nuri Ra.
When the festivities were over and the sun was sinking past the horizon, everyone grouped back together in the center of the village. "Now that we have been acquainted, we need to split into groups of two," Albright said, clasping his hands together. He watched as the majority of them chose to group together with those of the different sex, all besides the Beltane sisters who decided to stick together.
"Each group will choose a hut as their own! Congratulations on becoming the first Solarians!" Noct said, once everyone was finished.
"At dawn, we will assemble here to discuss the work you'd like to do to help contribute to Flarena." Albright added in before everyone split to claim their new home. For the first time throughout the land, this group of people were able to sleep warm and soundly in their sleeping sacks.
The next day, they had all clustered together in the village center, talking in hushed tones. They wondered where their fearless leaders were, late to their own assembly. Not even five minutes after they had all arrived, the two leaders emerged from the rainforest with a large buck being dragged behind them. Dark bags hung under their eyes, hinting at their lack of sleep. "Good morning, everyone!" Albright addressed them with a large smile on his face. His personality didn't match his appearance, so energetic despite the lack of sleep.
"Morning!" the settlers said in unison.
"We have much to do this grand morning," Albright said, releasing the leg of the deer. "First, we spent all night planning out everything. We have decided that as of right now, the rules will be simple. You must work in order to live here as it's only fair to the others. You must be respectful towards your other Solarians. What that means is you must respect their boundaries, their wishes, their body, and their spirits. Acting upon greed is forbidden. You must earn everything. There are no shortcuts, do you understand?"
"Yes!"
"Good. Now the second thing, my name is Albright Sunarian. I will be your leader, so I would like for you to address me as Sir Sunarian. This," Albright gestured to his closest friend, "is Noct Lustington; the future ruler of Lexadonia, our sister nation. He will be our deputy until then. You must refer to him as Sir Lustington, understand?"
"Yes, Sir Sunarian!" they said in unison again.
His grin reached his twinkling eyes. "Wonderful! The last thing that we need to discuss is the work. We will need hunters, defenders, doctors, sewers, cooks, cleaners, builders, and a manager."
Eliane Beltane raised her hand, too afraid to speak up. Albright bobbed his head, telling her to speak. "A manager?" she asked, unsure of herself.
"Yes. Me and Sir Lustington will be too busy handling the growth of Flarena, so we will need someone capable of managing the inner workings of the village. This means they would be responsible for making sure everyone is doing their jobs, those jobs are getting done, the town has enough resources, and the such."
A sparkle in her eye caught Albright's attention as she opened her mouth to speak, "Could I do it, Sir Sunarian?" she asked.
"I like the initiative," the Solaria ruler said, "I will allow you to do it, but I will train you for a week so I know you're capable of the position."
"Of course, Sir."
"Good. Now, is there anyone who would like to pick their own work?" The majority of them did. They were lined up in front of the two rulers, for order. The longer Albright ruled over Flarena, he realized how deep his love for balance and organization had become. Eliane's sister, Marici, chose to become a seamstress. She didn't know what to do, but she was sure she'd be able to learn. Olwen, Arani, and Aelius decided to hunt. Ignatius, already knowledgeable in herbal medicine, chose to become a doctor. Ellora later asked him if he'd teach her. Afraid of the brutes, four defenders were chosen: Cyrus, Ravi, Nuri, and Solanna. Fier, Aiden, and Brin chose to do building, while Helie was assigned it. Daisy and fawn wanted to be in charge of cooking. Brook also decided to become a seamstress, and surprisingly Tesni followed suit despite his bulky build. Ara, who couldn't decide, was placed as the village cleaner.
Impressing Albright and Noct, the village folks immediately started on their jobs. Aelius took the deer from the leader, dragging it away to be skinned for the girls to cook. Albright, walked over to the group of builders, discussing his idea for a place for the cooks to work after watching them disappear behind the huts.
The builders shared a glance between each other, not exactly understanding what Albright wanted them to build. With an inward sigh, the leader started to explain to them in larger details without much success.
"Allow me, Sir." a small, feminine voice appeared from behind him. Eliane. She turned her attention to the four builders, a small smile on her lips. "We need a large hut," she pointed at one of the huts and then gestured widely with her hands, "and inside it we need a firepit to cook and a rack to hang the animals. Large branches can be used and bind together with vines or hemp to create a structure for the job. If you need help, I can teach you," she said, looking up at her leader to read his features. To her, he seemed impressed.
"Did you get that?" he asked the builders to which they nod in response. "Good, then get started. I would like at least one of you to focus on building spears." And they scurried off.
"What next, sir?" He looked down at the smaller woman, who was expectantly looking up at him.
"Lets go instruct the defenders." He turned on his heels and started toward the cluster of groups without waiting for a response from her. The defenders were huddled together in a small group on the outskirts of the village, seemingly trying to find out information on the job through the others. "Hello again, warriors!" Albright exclaimed, waving at them once in ears length.
"Good morning, Sir!" the defenders addressed him.
"It seems you four are lost," he chuckled, "right now, your job isn't much, but the main goal of defenders is to keep the village safe from outside dangers like animals and brutes. You will patrol the borders of the village to make sure nothing is out of normal. If you find anything on your patrols, please tell me, Sir Lustington, or Lady Beltane."
"What are patrols, sir?" Cyrus asked with a deep voice from the throat.
"Groups of two that walk around the outer edges of the village. You will be armed and alert at all times during patrols. We will have alternating patrols which means once your patrol is over, the next group will start theirs."
"What will we do while not on patrol?" That was Solanna.
"You will be assisting the others with their work, but right now, I'm going to be taking all four of you on a patrol to show you the path you'll be taking every day."
"Yessir!" the defenders said together.
Albright then spent the next hour touring them around the edges of the villages, venturing deeper into the rainforest until the reached a larger hut none of them knew about. Albright explained to them that this is his and Sir Lustington's hut and thus the end of the village boundaries. Beyond it were unimaginable dangers that seemed so far from them since they joined forces with Noct. After showing them around the hut, the group quickly wrapped around the hut and headed back to the village.
"Now, I want you four to go help the builders with the spears. You should know how to build your own weapons in case anything ever happens," he asserted before heading off to the next task.
"Sir?" Eliane was keeping up to him
"Yes, Lady Beltane?" he responded.
"I don't want to overstep, but I think we should create a farm... also, why do you keep calling me Lady Beltane?"
"A farm... yes, that's a good idea!" Albright praised before stopping and turning to her. "You're the village manager, Eliane. It's a high position with lots of responsibilities and hard work involved. You should have a title to show off all the hard work you put into it."
"W-Well thank you, sir." Elaine suddenly turned shy, unsure how to handle the praise. Coming from a hellish place, Albright seemed like a beacon of hope and light to her. He was showing her a life that was completely different from what she lived.
When Sir lustington had come to her, with a group of five vagabonds trailing behind, her sister had thought she was crazy to join them. They were used to having to live off the carcassing of decomposing animal kill, running away from brute after brute who only seemed to want their womanhood or delectable flesh. She always knew there should be something more to life than living by savage instinct. It took time for her sister to see it too, but Elaine knew they had both made the right choice in the end.
"I-I should go and check in on the builders, see if they need any help." She turned to leave, but stopped at the sound of Albright's voice.
"How do you know so much?" he had asked.
She pivoted slightly, turning her head the rest of the way so she could look Sir Sunarian in his eyes. "I survived on nothing." And then she turned and left him.
