Beginning of the end
???? P.O.V
Alfheim,
Realm to the elves.
Thousands of species florish here. Living peacefully under my rule.
The water elf Kingdom thrives under our seas and in our lakes, along side their mermaid allies. Toward the west, pixies and Fairies share blooming meadows with horned and winged horses.
Air elves soar through the skies in their wondrous flying machines. In the forest Kingdom to the east, cat elves nest at the roots of the Youth Tree, bonding with the wild riding cats.
But this story takes place in the North, where the Ice Elves live. A small Kingdom, known as Astrila, lived quietly, hardly making contact with anyone beyond their borders. All who lived their were blue in skin and hair.
The King, a cousin of mine, nephew to the Queen before me, my mother, was kind hearted and loyal to his subjects. The Kingdom itself was not rich, but it did not need wealth to survive, the elves who lived there could withstand even the harshest of winters. Wielding such a season to their own advantage.
Not so long ago, the King lost his Queen. Leaving him alone to guide their 5 children as heirs to the throne.
The oldest, a boy not yet a man, next in line to rule. Only his heart was not like is father's, his heart was cold as the icy winds that blew across the snow covered mountains. He wished to wage and win wars, he had cunning and was sly. He would grow more and more powerful is he sat on the throne.
The second son was bold but not as bold as his brother, he was skilled in fighting and magic. He cared for those who needed and cherished those he loved.
The third son was sick. Born terribly ill and predicted to die before marrying age.
The first daughter, the 4th child, named after her grandmother, was strong willed and stubborn like her mother. Skilled in magic, just like her older brother.
The King's youngest daughter was only a babe when her mother passed. She was the Kingdom's newest treasure, a beacon of light in the dark days after the Queens death.
---------
Years passed and all the children grew, expect one. The youngest son, passed one night, joining his mother beyond the grave.
As for the other 4 children, they grew into young adults, 3 of them now of marrying age.
Svan, the soon to be king had found himself a bride and they were due to marry any week now.
Esvel, the second son was training to fight, to protect his home. He did not wish to spend his life with a female.
Decima was now of marrying age and had many young princes' willing to betroth her, the king was very proud of that. But any invitation or gift presented to her for her hand was turned away, for she was not ready.
But the youngest, Luma, was curious as the riding cats. No matter how far she would venture, nor how lost she would get herself, she would crave more adventure. Still only young, no older then the age of 5, her father loved her to Midgard and beyond.
But a great threat was held against our peaceful realm.
The Frost Giants demanded a supporting army to wage a war against Asgard along side their own armies. They wished to use our armies to slay innocent civilians in another realm.
They threatened that if we didn't agree then they would take my people by force.
In an effort to prevent a war I called all of our own great leaders from all the kingdoms across Alfhiem to a civil meeting to save our realm.
The Queen from the forest land, the fairy leader, the Ocean King and many other brave and beloved leaders put their strong minds together to figure out a solution.
After weeks of plotting and testing, we still had no solutions. Most leaders were beginning to worry that if we did not give an answer, they would attack none the less. Taking innocent elves and throwing them into a battle. This war seemed inevitable.
But then, days, weeks, months went by with no sign of an approaching war. With nothing more they could do, the leaders went home to be with their families.
But we were always on alert, always aware of any sign of activity beyond our borders.
The forests were on high alert day and night. Scouts searching the trees and caves for any Frost Giants.
Even the water Kingdom had troops protecting all entrances and exits to their home.
Then, once a year had past, we lowered our defences, we no longer saw it fit to spend every our seeking a threat that refused to show itself.
It was a foolish decision. And I was the one who made it.
Only a few months after we stopped checking every corner, of every Kingdom, we received a distress call from the Northern Ice Kingdom.
