Chapter 1
It's so funny how life can just turn itself around at you at any given moment.
The silent shuffling of feet, the mush of crowded bodies in one hallway. Energy flowing from one person to another as they rush themselves to class.
What could be more exhilarating?
I was walking alone, well I couldn't say exactly. Being stuck in the mush means I'm one of them. A family.
But then had to come the trouble maker.
As I walked, my arms began to tingle with a mix of fear and oddness, and the feeling of a cold icy hand touched my shoulder....
I quickly pulled away as a reflex, but what I turned around to was completely different.
How funny it is how the most devilish person looks yet so innocent.
An innocent German...
Like the rest of us.
"Hey Delar!"
That grin.
That peculiar grin
"H-Hey." I shied away, holding a leather notebook that was laced between my fingers, now held to my chest.
"Can you and Avan leave early today? Before... 12?" He cocked his head to one side, that wide ear to ear grin didn't budge.
Who asks that?
"Why?" My face was struggling to have the same enthusiasm as him, but it was too hard. "So you don't have to see me?"
"No! No!" His big ugly smile, slowly turned into a frown. "Hey." He paused, pressing his lips tightly together. "Do you want to start a revolution? So... people can see that we are not afraid of them?"
Misunderstood? Maybe. Yet I doubt it.
My gaping mouth quickly shut, and I swung my hand into the air. "Revolution? Wozu? Blut ist genug jeden Tag vergossen. Es ist lächerlich. Revolution? For what? Enough blood is forgotten every day. It's ridiculous."
Should I have kept my mouth shut, and walked away?
Me and my big mouth.
His smile slowly seeped back, as he spoke. "Just think about it. Ok?"
I dismissed him as I walked back down the hallway. Time passed by quickly. Math. P.E.. Science...
But as soon as I walked through the door to Language Arts, everything went black.
Minutes... no hours... seemed to pass as the blackness clouding my head stayed. Once I woke up, I wish I never did.
Delar? Delar? Where are you?
I slowly opened my eyes, and even though I could feel my eyelids break open, everything was still in a coat of black. My hands slowly felt my surroundings, and I suddenly felt trapped. Then slowly, shockwaves of pain were sent from chest to stomach, to my leg. Thoughts roaring through my head, I reached for my phone hanging from the back of my pocket, and I pressed the home button, lighting up my pained face.
Thank you god for this life saving creation.
Once I turned on the flashlight, my pupils grew wide with shock.
Well I probably was already in shock. It didn't hurt as bad as it looked.
A metal pipe had struck straight through my chest, tilted at a downward position, rusted and broken, while a wider one stuck through my stomach. I shined the flashlight across the area around her.
Rocks. Funny thing is I hate rocks now. Well not physically touching them. That would be weird! I don't like hiding behind rocks. That's all I can say.
A text.
Zulo: 'Delar? I heard what happened. Are you ok?'
Delar: 'I don't think so.'
Zulo: 'What do you mean?'
Delar: 'I don't think I'm gonna make it.'
Zulo: 'Bleib bei mir! Sie haben nur so wenig von Ihrem Leben gelebt. Stay with me! You have lived so little of your life.'
Delar: 'I can't move. There is metal in my chest.
I have to find a way out of this. Bye.'
Zulo: 'Wait wh-'
My finger pressed away from the text messages, and I pulled back, biting my lip as the metal scraped its way out of my chest. Tears broke out, before griping onto the one that was in the stomach.
I can't breath. Someone get me out.
"Delar? Where are you? Answer me!"
Pass these four walls, I could here the faint cry of Avan's voice.
My voice choked painfully, caught halfway through my throat. "I'm here..."
"Delar? Are you ok? Can you find your way out?" His voice was quick but sweet, yet filled with panic.
Mouth snapped shut. Why do I want to tell him that I'm dying?
To finally get useful, I struggled find a way out for my foot. 2 minutes. 3 minutes. 5 minutes passed. Finally pulling it out, I dug my way through the rubble.
How quickly I found the children, yet how slow I was dying.
The last person I found... I cried. Mrs.Dealois was sprawled against the ground, her eyes closed tight. My head lowered as I shuffled my way towards her, slowly, but her eyes flung open.
Suddenly the tumbling sound.
Too quick
Too fast
Blackened vision.
Pain came then disappeared.
Goodbye.
