Songs To Sleep To

DISCLAIMER~The lullaby that Chat Noir sings to Marinette is a parody of the Christmas song Joseph's Lullaby by MercyMe.  I do not own any rights to Joseph's Lullaby, nor Miraculous.  Enjoy the last part of my VERY short story!

Also, having a pale voice mean having a weak or feeble voice for further reference.

"M'lady, are you sure you're alright?" Chat Noir asked again, chuckling, waking Ladybug again from her fleeting slumber. "I told you I'm... I'm fine..." Ladybug slurred, fighting against her exhaustion once more.  As her head lolled forward with sudden sleep, Chat Noir had to snatch at her chest and pull her linear to his side.  Chat sighed as he gingerly shook Ladybug awake.  I wonder what she's going to say when she wakes up to find herself almost on my lap, Chat Noir thought.  When she awoke from her brief moment of respite, she glared at him irritably. "Chaaat, why did you wake me?" Ladybug griped, annoyed at the sudden jolt from her sleep. After grumbling with fatigued words only cat ears could make out, she sunk back into soft slumber.  With that little show Ladybug had put on, Chat Noir decided it was time to saunter over to the flirty side of his personality.  He gazed at her and gave a flirty half-smile. "What?  Did you not want me to disturb the little nap you were taking on my shoulder?" When he got no answer, not even a sigh, he added,  "Oh, and by the way, thanks for the free cuddles."  At this remark, Ladybug almost jumped you of her skin.  Her eyes shot open as if a gun had gone behind her, sat up straight as a oaken board, and stared at Chat's flirty expression. "What!? I did WHAT!?" Ladybug jabbered.  She seemed remarkably flustered, and her face was almost a perfect match to the scarlet color of her suit. Chat Noir casually crossed his legs and laid down on the roof, arms behind his head as he lazily surveyed the stars. "Just sayin'." he purred. "Maybe if I wasn't such a gentleman, I would've made a move on you." He turned his head to grin at her, his luminous green eyes glinting mischievously in the moonlight.  Ladybug flushed, and wobbly stood up from her sitting position. "Maybe I-I should be getting home," she stuttered in a pale voice, sleep already attempting to pin her down again.  As Ladybug was about to sprint off, her Miraculous gave a final warning beep.  Crimson-pink particles rained down in spirals as her red and black suit disintegrated into the small brown jacket, white flower print shirt, and denim jeans that Marinette usually wore.  With the superhero agility gone, Marinette stumbled and half face-planted, half belly-flopped onto the slate colored shingles of the roof.  Chat bounded over to her and gently helped her to her unsteady, sleep weighted feet.  Chat Noir softly draped Marinette's arm across his shoulder blades and wrapped his own around her chest to hold her up.  When Chat looked down at Marinette's face, he saw that it was flushed a bright crimson, almost like the center of a flame. "That's it." He said, scooping up her legs and cradling her in his arms. "I'm carrying you home, whether you like it or not."  Marinette's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates, and tried feebly to wrestle out of Chat Noir's soft but strong grip.  It was like she was being held with a clasp lined with pillows. "F-fine." She huffed, giving up the at the futile attempt to free herself. "Take me home.  Just please don't get any ideas."  With that, Chat flew off the roof in a massive jump that cleared almost two buildings.

*At the Dupen-Chengs*

Chat Noir landed nimbly on the small, cutely furnished terrace that lead into Marinette's room with a barely audible thump.  Marinette, who was just barely on the dim line between awake and asleep, opened her eyes a millimeter at the minuscule shudder the impact sent through her.  Chat Noir winced when he saw her eyes open slightly, but the snake of tension coiled around him slithered off when they closed, leaving only easy satisfaction like a warm, fuzzy blanket.  He soundlessly tread down the stairs to Marinette's room, smiling at the utterly girly decor of her little getaway.  Chat ambled across the zig-zag hardwood patterned floor to where Marinette's bed sat; a soft, cushy pillow in the shape of a large cat curled at the head.  Marinette barely moved as Chat Noir gently placed her on the exposed mattress and slid his arms out from under her.  He tenderly drew the pink and black striped comforter over Marinette's sleeping form, sighing with pleasure.  She's cute when she sleeps. he thought admiringly.  As Chat Noir was about to climb the steps to the terrace, he stopped and looked back at Marinette.  she had rolled over to face him, her sleeping face a calm mask of happiness.  Her hand was under her cheek, and her hair was slightly rustled out of place.  Chat looked back to the entrance, then to Marinette.  I'll stay a little longer, he thought, an idea soaking through his brain.  He quietly tip-toed to her bedside and knelt next to her head.  Gently, he slipped her hand out from under her cheek and held it.  Chat took a small breath, and softly began to sing her a lullaby.

   Go to sleep, my love

Drift softly in your bed

We have a long

Road before us

Rest your pretty head.

Can you feel my hand

On your shoulder?

Do you hear my voice tonight?

Or can your partner guard

Your room for now so

You can sleep tonight?

Go to sleep, my love

Go and chase your dreams

This town can wait

For one more moment

Rest, and sleep in peace.

I believe the glory of heaven

Is holding my hand tonight

But oh I ask that you

For just this moment

Simply be my girl.

Go to sleep, my love

Mari, close your eyes

Soon enough, we'll

Save the day

But for now, dear

Love of mine

Oh my Ladybug,

Sleep tight.

With the final verse out, Chat took Marinette's hand and softly kissed it. "Sleep well, Ladybug."

"I love you."
