The Week After Lukeia
Leia's POV
Right now, I'm getting ready for the annual Lost and Found Christmas party. It's always the most fun time of the year. The green and red lights and streamers add to the party, along with the huge Christmas tree in the rose room, where everyone will be performing tonight.
Unlike how you would expect Lost and Found to function during Christmas, Mr. T doesn't allow people to write their own Christmas songs. He always talks about how we should "appreciate the songs former musician geniuses have put forth before us" or something. If that rule weren't in place, I would totally write so many songs.
But I don't really care about that right now. All I care about is that this is my first Christmas with a boyfriend. And that boyfriend gets to be Luke. Eek!
Literally nothing could go wrong this Christmas.
I just jinxed it didn't I?
Ignoring that thought, I continue to hang up more streamers and put up my own personalized Christmas ornaments on the tree, including the sphere beholding a beautiful picture of me and my Lukey smiling on our first date. We're so cute!
I hang it up quickly and skip over to Rachel, who's been done decorating her side of the room for some time and has been watching me smile at an ornament. How embarrassing.
"Ok I'm ready to go," I tell her. She sighs.
"Finally. If I had to watch you internally squeal one more time, I would've just left you here to go get ready," she rolls her eyes.
"Hey! Be happy for me," I joke. I look around the room to see a tired Maggie pinning up some pictures on the other side of the room. "Hey, shouldn't we invite Maggie to come get ready with us? She seems kind of sad and... lonely."
"Sure, go ask her to come," she says while nudging me.
"Me? Her and I are not exactly on good terms right now. Shouldn't it be you?" I ask, considering Maggie's been a bit bitter since Luke and I got together. I don't understand why she doesn't get together with Theo. It's so obvious he likes her.
"No, no. I'm sure she's forgotten all about the whole situation. Just go ask."
I walk over slowly and tap her on the shoulder, causing her to jolt up a bit. She looks at with an annoyed look on her face.
Oh no.
"Hey Maggie. Rachel and I were just about to go shop for our dresses. Do you wanna come with? Or if you're still decorating we can wait around a bit," I suggest nervously.
She glares at me and that's when I've realized I've made a mistake,"No thanks. Wouldn't wanna be a burden. And I already got my dress like weeks ago. Guess I'm more prepared," she looks me up and down.
"Umm...ok we'll be heading out then." I look back at Rachel and smile really big,"Let's go shopping!"
We hop into the car and start driving to the mall, all the while I explain that horror of a conversation to Rachel.
"And she really just said that? That she was more prepared than you? Does that even count as an insult, because if so, that one doesn't really sting as deep as she thinks it will," Rachel rants.
"I don't know. Maybe she was telling me to be prepared or something. Like maybe she's planning on stealing Luke."
"Yeah right. Maggie's not that mean."
"You never know."
We get out of the car and enter...
The most beautiful place I've ever seen.
Beautiful ball gowns and elegant dresses adorn the inside of the store, with pearly white walls and a marble patterned floor. With the snow fluttering just outside the windows, this place looks like it came right out of my dreams.
My eyes wander until they land on a gorgeous red dress. It's a mermaid dress with lace for the sleeves and a black outline on the neck and waist. I instantly fall in love with it and starting pointing frantically at it.
"This one Rachel! I have to get this one!" I shout.
"Well then go try it on!" she answers excited. I grab it and run into the fitting rooms. It fits to a T and feels so comfortable I could cry.
I walk out as Rachel walks out of her dressing room with a green dress. It has a flowy skirt and a sweetheart neckline. It looks absolutely stunning on her.
"I think we just found our dresses," I say. We change out of our outfits and go check them out at the cashier. Let's just say, I will not be buying anything for a really long time because of that price.
We head back to my house and change back into the dresses. Rachel puts on her sparkly blue high heels and does her own makeup. She does a gradient from green to blue for her eye shadow and then pink lips. She leaves her hair down and curled.
I slip on my sparkly red high heels. Then I get my hair ready. I take the top half and tie that into a ponytail. Then I put a pink flower next to my ear. My hair is very easy to get ready because it's always curly and it doesn't fight with me.
Next, makeup. I put on a smoky eye and cut the crease, putting red sparkly eye shadow on. I then curl my eyelashes, put on my mascara, and layer on red lipstick.
Perfect.
"Ok let's go before we're late!" I rush.
We drive to Lost and Found and walk in. We catch the eyes of everyone in the room (and a glare from Maggie). The only eyes I care about, though, are the large brown ones that belong to my boyfriend. I walk over and he greets me with a peck.
"Hey Luke. You look amazing. You always look amazing in a tux," I blush, remembering back to our first date.
"Hey Leia. You look...absolutely breath-taking," he says. I blush even harder. All the butterflies inside of me collectively throw up. I didn't realize I'd be this nervous.
We walk onto the floor and and starting dancing to "Jingle Bell Rock" which is being performed by Eva on her electric guitar. She's really good. I'm glad she's getting out there more.
After some more songs, we all gather into a circle and start telling scary stories. On Christmas. Apparently Mr. T's family does this.
Weirdos.
"So who's up first?" Mr. T asks.
"I am! I am!" Theo screams like a little kid.
I am slightly glad Theo is the one telling the story because that means I won't be getting scared. I'll be laughing the whole time.
"So 150 years ago, on a Christmas night, it was a man's birthday. He wished that he could go to a parallel universe for joke's sake but at midnight, everybody at the party went through a time warp. Once they were through the time warp nobody remembered their past life and only remembered their present life. A whole year later on a Christmas midnight, everybody was teleported back to their regular times, only everybody remembered their past lives too. They had teleported back in time to the moment they time warped. The man was mad because in the parallel universe he had a horrible life, and his wife had fallen in love with another man, so she left him. So he cursed that every 50 years, this time warp would happen to only a certain group of people, and we don't know who. The last one happened in 1967 so the next one should happen in-"
"2017," Maggie interrupts.
"That's this year," Theo adds.
Oh for goodness sake, this is ridiculous.
"This is not scary at all. It's not like this whole thing would happen to us, right? We don't know who this happens to?" I ask.
"Well, the last people this happened to all were associated with this building. So there's a good chance it could happen to us."
"Well still what's the worst that could happen?" Rachel asks.
"Personality changes. And you wouldn't be dating who you're dating now. Stuff like that," Theo says casually.
"So y-you mean..." I drift off and glance at Luke and then Maggie, who's smirking at me. Usually I wouldn't worry about stuff like this, but the thought of Luke and Maggie being together for a whole year makes me sick to my stomach.
What if he decides he likes her more?
I look over at John who seems to be deep in thought. I bet he's thinking about Michelle and what they would be like in this "alternate dimension". Luke told me everything. Apparently after Michelle told him she loved him, he decided he was too messed up, and he didn't want to mess her up, too. They still haven't talked since that day.
"But I guess it's not all that scary anyways, right guys?" Theo teases as he notices all of our horrified expressions. "It's getting close to midnight, better hope it doesn't happen to us."
I grab Luke's hand as I stare at the clock. I just hope that when it hits 12, I'll still be holding Luke's hand.
