The fog (part 1)

A/n: I WAS MEANT TO POST THIS YESTERDAY SNGSHW Soz guys

It felt like walking through a horror game, the fog so thick Luka could barely see in front of him. And the silence... it was so eerie. The only sound he could hear was his own footsteps and the occasional howl of wind through the empty streets. This fog? It sucked up anyone it touched UNLESS you were wearing a miraculous suit. Nearly the entire city was gone, the only ones still alive were those who'd been inside their houses with the windows and doors closed. And there was no way they'd be stepping out onto the streets knowing the fog would snap them from existence.

So how was Luka out here? He had the black cat and the ladybug miraculous on.

The day started absolutely wild for him, his mother and sister left the house before he woke up, so it was just him when he awoke to frantic calling of his name. Before him was Plagg, with Adrien's ring. In a panic he explained that somehow Gabriel had found it Adrien was Cat Noir, and Gabriel? Was hawkmoth. A fight went down, but before he could take the ring, Adrien took it off and told Plagg to take it and run. So he did, but moments later the fog began to billow out from the house.

Upon checking what happened, Plagg found Adrien was being used as an akuma anchor. The fog itself was the akuma, and Adrien was the source of it, the plan being that Hawkmoth would use the fog to find the other miraculous. The fog designed to leave behind the jewellery of anyone it caught. If Ladybug wasn't transformed, she'd vanish in the fog and leave her miraculous behind. And given the fact she hadn't shown up to fight, she must have been sucked up by the fog.

Luka being the only one to know all the identities, meant he had to get to the ladybug miraculous before Hawkmoth could. So he took Adrien's ring, transformed so he was immune to the fog and went right to Marinette's house. The bakery doors were open as it was morning rush around this time, and the fog had been let in. Up in Marinette's room, the earrings sat on her pillow. Like she's still been asleep when the fog hit. Luka took them, put them on to make sure no one else could touch them.

Then he had to figure out what to do from here. He had both miraculous, Gabriel was Hawkmoth and was out roaming the city looking for the miraculous. Adrien was the source of the fog, akumatized.

Adrien, he needed to find Adrien, make sure he was ok. So that's how Luka ended up stumbling blindly through the thick fog using the night vision of cat noir to see. Even with it, it was hard to make things out the closer he got to Adrien's house. He'd resorted to using the baton like a blind stick, feeling for things in front of him so he'd not run into anything. But he knew the thicker the fog was, the closer he was to it's source.

When the looming gates of the mansion finally appeared in view, Luka was careful to scale them and sneak in, just in case Gabriel was around. Each step he took into the house was slow and quiet, at least with this thick fog no one could see him unless they were way up close to him. He went through the whole house, looking for Adrien only to find no one. But it was clear a fight had gone down, things were knocked over, there was a hole in a wall like someone had hit it or been thrown into it, even some drops of blood across the floor as if someone had a nose bleed or something.

Luka almost had a heart attack when he took a step forward and felt the baton suddenly drop, an opening in the ground behind Gabriel's desk, the thick fog made it hard to tell how deep it went, but there was what looked like an elevator shaft pole going down there. So carefully Luka slid down it, landing in the basement he didn't know existed. This was definitely the source, the fog was so thick it was almost pitch black. It looked more like smoke than fog.

He turned the batons flashlight setting on using it to see through the darkness and hit anything in front of him.

The further he got into the room, he found it ti he some kind of garden. Butterflies fluttering about and plants looming in the shadows. But finally, he shone light onto the form of a person. Adrien, sunk to his knees and frozen in place. Luka rushed up, ducked down beside him to try and break him out of this trance. But no matter how much he shook him, or talked to him, he stayed frozen. The front of his shirt was covered in blood that dripped from his mouth, upon closer inspection it was because a whole tooth had been knocked out. His eye black and bruised, his hair messed up and his clothes crumpled. Cleary he'd been in a fight.

And... he seemed to be looking at something.

Turning to follow his gaze, Luka saw a shadow through the fog. Something big and kind of long? He stood up, reached out to touch it. It was cold, ice cold. He turned the baton flashlight toward it, and almost screamed and dropped it when he saw what it was.

Emilie Agreste's cryogenically frozen dead body.

He didn't have words, just stood there frozen staring at it. He felt sick, for a moment thinking he'd throw up. That was a dead body... a YEARS old dead body. Sure, she was preserved very well... but she still looked dead. She looked pale, lifeless, eyes sunken and baggy, fingertips and lips blue. She was dead by all means. And this whole time, Adrien had been living above it.

Adrien went to his mothers funeral and watched an EMPTY casket be lowered into the ground thinking his mother was in it. He visited the grave of his mother, she she wasn't in it. He'd been living, mourning and eventually healing from the loss... above her dead body. And he didn't know it.

Luka knew Gabriel was a bad parent. But In less than a day he'd found out not only was he a bad parent, but a terroristic super villain and a maniac who keeps his wife's dead body in his basement.

But he also suddenly knew why he was doing everything he was now. He wanted Emilie back. But Luka knew a man as deranged as Gabriel wouldn't just revive her and be done with it. He'd completely rewrite history. Emilie never dies, Adrien never goes to school or gets away from the abuse, he still has full control over everything. Not on Luka's watch-

There were consequences to cheating death. That's what the moral of the Sisyphus myth was. You can't cheat death, you can't rewrite history, you'll face the consequences.

But rebirth... that was something that didn't rewrite history. There were myths about that, it ended in glory. Like how Zagreus became Dionysus through rebirth.

It dawned on Luka that the one sure fire way to stop Gabriel all together was to fight him with his own goal. Adrien had spilled his guts out to Luka about how much he missed and loved his mother many times. Luka knew all about the woman, and she knew that Adrien was her miracle baby. After many, many failed attempts for a child, so many miscarriages and fertility problems, Adrien was finally born. And he was her golden boy, absolutely nothing could replace her love for him.

So if she found out what Gabriel had been doing to him...

Luka didn't have any wishes for himself, all his dreams were things he knew he could achieve with work and passion. Becoming an instrument maker, living a nice quiet life with his true love, travelling the world. He could do that without any magic. So he was glad to give up his wish for Adrien.

He could have his mother back, escape from his fathers abuse and live the life he was always meant to live. You see, Luka was smart. He wouldn't wish for Emilie to never have died. He'd wish for Emilie to be reborn. History wasn't being rewritten, the future was.

He looked down at the state Adrien was in, frozen in time. Horrified, bloodied and bruised. Teary eyed and scared. If Emilie saw this... if she knew what her husband had done to her baby...

Gabriel didn't stand a chance.
